Broke my key off in the seat, lost the spare. In the meantime, I've pulled the broken peice from the seat and stuck it in the ignition so it can at least start.

Does anyone know if an ignition switch for a Reflex would fit?

It would be great to not have to send my key off and wait a week to get a copy made.

I've noticed the local hardware stores don't keep a very good selection of key blanks that will match my VOG260 style scooter. I found a blank that would work in a pinch, ILCO DC3. Its shorter than the original key, only limitation is you can't lock your steering column which requires you to push the key further into the ignition.

Hope this helps someone, at least you can get the local hardware store to copy it and you can send this copy off for duplication if necessary.

Hi Omaha, I'm just east of Des Moines. I've been trying to find the earlier thread about this and was wanting to post my results. I just put in 2 halogen 35/35 bulbs. They're a lot brighter, they don't pull anymore power than the OEMs, and SO FAR I haven't had any melted bulb bases. I bought the bulbs online at ebay. I had replaced the OEM bulbs with 45/35 bulbs and they were a bit brighter but the halogen are way brighter.

If you change the 1157 tail lights to LED the diameter cannot be bigger than this bulb. If it is it won't fit through the bulb opening in the tail light housing.

Hi Hozer,

If you have the 244cc engine then you did not get the best spark plug for that engine. The 3 plugs spec'd for this engine by Honda are:

DPR5EIX-9 (hottest running plug)
DPR6EIX-9
DPR7EIX-9 (coldest running plug) .

Here are some earlier posts of ours that explain these choices as well as why the DR8EIX is not a great choice.

So you can either go with the recommendations of the engineers and technicians that designed, built, and tested your engine or you can just guess at the right plug.

Good grief, this is the most simple selection we can think of; just look at all the references for the DPR 5/6/7 EA/EIX -9 and then try to find an application reference for the DR8 EA/EIX that says it is for the CN250.

If you are just wanting to hear that the plug you bought is correct, well then just listen to... "The other answer I get a lot is "NGK DR8EA" " and be done with it.

We cannot think of any other way to demonstrate to you what the correct spark plug recommendations are, so now you must make your own decision.

Hi Barry,

We are not sure exactly how the DR8EA recommendation came to be, but it looks like it might have been an inaccuracy in cross-referencing combined with no one ever checking the scooter manufacturers' specifications.

The DR8EA is different than a DPR8EA; the "P" indicates a projected insulator design. This design gives better self cleaning, to prevent fouling, and generally better combustion initiation as well.

The 8 indicates a cooler heat range than the coldest OEM recommended plug, and on an engine with 8,100 miles (that may have started to have some fouling issues) you should probably be moving toward a hotter plug like a 5/6 or even a 7 , but not an 8.

Here are some good parts sites/references that all list a spark plug that is one of the plugs specified by the OEM scooter manuf., namely the DPR7EA-9 (or the DPR7EIX-9 if you prefer the iridium version):

We also own a hard copy of the Official Honda Helix Service Manual 2004-2007 which lists the same plug recommendations as the on-line Honda Helix Manual that we linked you to earlier.

We personally run the DPR7IEX-9 in two different scoots with the 244cc Honda clone engine. One scoot is heavily modded and the other is nearly stock and sees daily highway driving, and both perform excellently with the DPR7IEX-9.

Bottom line..... the DR8EA, DPR8EA, and the DPR8IEX are NOT OEM recommended plugs for the 244cc Honda Clone engines; the DPR7EA-9 and the DPR7EIX-9 are OEM recommended plugs for the 244cc Honda clone engine.

BUY THE DPR7EIX-9 SPARK PLUG, AND YOU, AND YOUR SCOOT WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

I modded the cross reference list to update it for my own purposes and figured I would post it so it was of use to you all thanks all for the original posts it was awesome to find the help I needed in these threads..

The purpose of this list is to make finding replacement parts for the MC54 and its many different incarnations easier to find. It should also reduce common questions like (what is the spark plug for so and so scooter)

I'm going to start with some simple categories and flesh out the list from there. Don't over tighten your Oil Drain Plug. You only need to tighten them up finger tight real good with a teensy bit extra torque.

*CFMoto 244cc*
The Oil/Screen cover and drain plug from the 2007 Honda Helix are direct replacements for the china part. Can be purchased online from Bike Bandit or ordered from any Honda dealer. (make sure that you order the O ring with the Screen cover as it is a separate item.

*LinHai 257cc*
it is a large threaded cap, cast out of aluminum, and it is too easy to over torque it and have the wide skirt break off. The Yamaha 5RU-15351-00 part fits correctly. Yamaha used the same plug on a number of scooter engines for most scooters from the Yamaha Vino 125 on up work.

**Bolts to mount the rotor for the 54B rear wheel**

Honda dealerships have 8x25 bolts en masse (phew). I had a feeling this would be the case due to the whole Reflex clone thing.

**brake light switches**
Guys the brake light switches for the 250B are a very common switch used on Hondas and other motorcycles and scooters too You must be specific though as there don't interchange. In other words if it is the front brake switch= right handle or the rear brake switch = left handle!


***Transmission / Variator Parts***

Many manufacturers make CVT performance upgrade parts for these scoots Dr. Pulley Malosi to name a couple. Do your home work before investing big bucks.

Varator Roller Wieght = 20x12 10 to 11 grams for performance upgrade Dr. Pully Sliders recommended

Varator housing / Fan = Dr Pulley makes a slotted version that improves heat dissipation.

Clutch = Lots of choices

Clutch spring = Lots of choices


CVT Belt = Stock MC-54B-250-12-03 CVT Belt 870×22×30

About CVT Belts

22.5, 23 and even 24 widths are all the same width belt. it is just the different manufacturers and their nomenclature.An 870 is the same as the 871. 871 length is still made, but for whatever reason, it wound up in short supply at this time.

You can use the 856 on up to a longer belt as much as 896 in length, but the longest belts may have some belt slap against the CVT case.

A longer belt results in a slightly higher top speed and a shorter belt results in a slightly slower top speed. The manufacturers were putting on whatever belt they happen to be able to get when they were manufacturing the engines. I saw at least three different belt sizes on my scooter already.


***Lights***

Best Practice is to change all of your Tail Brake and Turn signals to LED types lowering your wattage use this allows you to add a higher wattage Head light without impacting the load on the Battery

Note: Heat can be a factor on the higher watt head lights they may melt your lamp housing.

*Stock replacements*

Headlight Bulbs for 250B = OEM is 25/25 12 volt Double Contact Bayonet (BA20d) Base #6235B A7375 Motorcycle / Snowmobile Miniature Incandescent bulb

It is suggested that you use 35/35 watt or higher up to 40/45 or 50/50 watt.

You can get cheaper Head light bulbs if you hunt around. Part numbers N-12-623 for 35/35W bulbs and N-12-624 for the 45W(high beam)/40W(low beam) bulbs.

Note: HID light kits are also available for the head lights they greatly increase the amount of light output. HID Bi Xenon h4 6000k kits are available on ebay. Do your home work the whiter the light the farther you can see. 9000K is cool in bluish light but you can't see as far.

Spare key is the same as a Yamaha # YH35 0r YH35RBP (Rubber Grip) I Bent a key & ordered these blanks, had them cut & they work pefectly.

***Exhaust System***
I needed to replace the exhaust gasket, so I thought while I was at it I would take a few pics. The information might be useful to someone. I purchased the exhaust gasket from www.partsforscooters.com
I think the gasket is for a CF-Moto clone engine, but I cannot be sure.
Anyway the gasket fit my engine AOK. No problem.

I discovered touch up paint for the '08 MC-54-250B Blue that matches EXACTLY at WalMart. I found it in the automotive section where they keep touch up paint for cars. I just went to wal mart and looked at the stuff and found one I thought would be close and it was friggin exact. Wild. Cost was $5.77

The BLUE I found was Dupli-Color brand "Electron Blue Peral" HA 00980 B95-P Honda

Mikuni replacement fuel pump (non electrical)

Mikuni Fuel Pump DF44-211D Rectangular Single,flows 14 Liter Per Hour

Mikuni Fuel Pump DF52-21 flows more than twice as much as the DF-44.

Maybe a better choice is the Mikuni DF-52 which flows more than twice as much as the DF-44.

I don't think that Mikuni DF-44 vacuum fuel pump is going to be the best choice for our scoots as earlwb tested it and found it to be lacking in fuel delivery for our application. A better choice is the Mikuni DF-52 which flows more than twice as much as the DF-44. I installed it on my 250B and it works great.

***Ignition Coil***

The ignition coil is a COP design using a spark plug wire instead of directly plugging onto the spark plug. So many ignition coil units will work, including the GY6 coils too. I don't see any reason against using a Honda Helix, Reflex or Yamaha or even Suzuki ignition coil unit. Some of the motorcycle coils would probably work too.

I broke a bolt that bolts the rear shock mount to the motor block (M8+1.25 mm pitch+70mm long) and I could not find one. Finaly found them at

This is awesome, guys. your input is greatly appreciated. i just bought a MC 54 - 250B - LJ4 and already bought the 4 amber LEDs ( Keep It Clean 1156LEDA Amber 12V Super Bright 1156 LED Bulb) and 2 Red LEDs ( One Pair 1157 RED 24 LED Light(2 bulbs) ba15d /12V Turn Signal Light, Corner Light, Stop Light, Parking Light, Side Marker Light, Tail Light, and Backup Lights) plus a E3 spark plug. My bike doesn't event get her until Wednesday, lol. Have we figured the best type of LED for the headlights yet? If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
