I am a new member and really enjoyed your article and i have the Yamaha/Linhai engine and am having trouble with my scooter dying when i pull up to say a stop sign. I've went through the carberator and have replaced all the cheap hoses on the fuel lines and vacuum lines and am concerned that the fuel pump is starving the engine, it runs great on the road and will idle perfect when you start it and just let it run but especially when it's cold it wants to die when you slow down to stop, doesn't do it as bad when it's warm, this just started and is very annoying and is also under warranty but seller is a long way off and I am very mechanicaly inclined so with a little direction I believe I can fix this myself. Is it going to take a fuel pump that puts out more mine is a 12 liter per hour. Thanks

I have a 2008 MC54 250B with 1900 miles. It stalled out then it was ok at idle but stalled upon acceleration. The fuel lines were replaced during the PDI. Needless to say I tore the thing down since nobody on the board had any ideas ( except Wildbill wanting some spell corrections " Thanks Bill" ) any way I finally got the time off from work to get it running and took a 200 mile ride today. Goes to show that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. If anyone encounters this problem I'll share my unique solution. OK, you have my interest, what did you do to solve the problem?

jrryan....do a valve adjustment, and all of your problems will be gone. There are numerous people on here who have had the same problem, me included, and it solved it.

hey guy's first post here, i'm working on a friends scooter because no one else will intown will, they just wont touch these chinese scooters, cant say i blame'em either. anyrate here's the problem, the scooter idles chopy (rough) like a harley ?, the owner has already replaced the carb once and it still idles rough. it does run smooth at high rpm's, so i'm leaning on an idle jet issue, or i suppose it could be an intake gasket leak?? what should i do first in testing . 1. valve adj 2. compression testing and what should this be 3. idle jet size, elevation is 5500ft, should be a what? 4. spark plug gap , ?? i run .035, or a .040 in my china quad and it runs great would that be normal for a scooter 5. should i remove the emission's on it ? it is a roketa off brand 250cc from scooterdepot.com, (aka )allroadusa.com, that was his first mistake to buy from them. the engine is a 250cc water cooled shanghia, go ahead and correct the spelling if it helps you. its to cold outside to go check again. and how the heck do you check the voltage on the cdi, or the coil wire to see if it is good, hope i've info'ed enough , ps: oh yeh the color of the scooter is grey, (just an old car parts joke)....

Do a Valve adjustment first!
Hey does, anybody know what's the compression on a Linhai 250CC engine? I did a valve adjustment on my 250cc MC-54-250B and it's only reading 145psi.

yep thats exactly what im working on a jmstar 250cc with a shanghi engine. 1. i did find out that the pilot jet was completely plug up and as well as the main the pilot jet was a 35 so i will boost that up to a 38 the main jet was an 88 size so that one will get replaced with a 110 to a 112, 115 ? so off to the japanese bike shop to get snugged at and or laughed at , or both, i dont care, but it is not mine this time , and i will check the valve clearance thanx all DD

Has anyone tried or heard of the 290cc big bore kit for the yp250 engine. I've seen a couple advertised on ebay. A complete kit with gaskets, piston, rings, nikasil coated cylinder. All for around $350 USD. The seller said it should not require any other mod other than re-jet. I would guess that would make an MC54 top out around 90mph. Any thoughts, or other input?

The dealer rates my scooter at 250cc and 16.6hp, which I guess is wrong; but I got 13" wheels on my scooter; at least that is what is on the tire; so how do you account for that?

Swakk, I really don't know what to say. You have done all the scooter dawgs a great favor. Many thanks to you. Do you know where I can buy a copy of the Yamaha YP250 service manual? And the 244cc CVT Honda CN 250 service manual ? Please take a bone............

Great work people. I have the Honda clone. I have no idea which is the better engine. Does anyone have some facts on that. I like some of the features of the Honda clone like the better oil change access. I also like the placement of the exhaust for the normal repairs. I have had seven scooters and am getting used to fixing them. Lets quit fussing about what we got from the obviously bad sales system and start having fun with them. I love riding mine and even tinkering with them all the time. I get 10,000 miles a year from mine.

I'm confused about this whole displacement issue here between these engines and I'll tell you why. This thread originally started pointing out the differences between motors. Mine has a case stamp of 170mm right on the top of the CVT case were the owner's manual states the engine VIN # should be. By reading this thread I thought I had a Linhai/Yamaha clone on this new MP250A by JCL scoot. If I plug this number on an engine displacement calculators found online, I get ~ 244cc. Isn't that a CFMoto engine type? My cylinder points to the front of the bike. Also, if you use the bore x stroke info on JCL's web site, you come up with 249.88 cc. It doesn't make any sense. Is there such a thing as a Linhai/Yamaha clone engine with a displacement of 244cc? Does anybody have a clear answer to this?

The website is wrong. they just copy and paste without ever verifying anything as to specifications. You would have to manually measure your bore and stroke to confirm it, but the means pulling the head off to do so. The Linhai style copy engine is 257cc displacement, and the CF-Moto copy engine is 244cc displacement. That is the OEM factory shipped engines. At the time Yamaha wanted to get a little bit of bragging rights over the Honda engine. The difference means nothing as to performance of one engine over the other.
There is a 275cc big bore kit around, but I wouldn't bother installing it as you only get about a 8% displacement increase, so it doesn't increase your power or speed enough to notice. I haven't seen a 290cc big bore kit yet, so I don't know.

There are some scoots being sold with a linhai clone engine the same size as the yamaha yp6 250 majesty, 249.8cc,designated stamped 169mm on the case. Roketa sells one called a wangye "top motor". It may be a genuine Linhai engine.

Just hit a 60,000 miles and running strong.. Not my scooter!!! Had to get a laugh in somehow. But the scooter are fairly cheap, fun to ride, gives alot of us something to talk about, and are darn fun to ride. The best $1700 scooter I ever bought. I hope it last 20,000 miles atleast but realize it will go through tires, belts, ect. to get there. It is a factor of life on the scoot. Parts wear out. But I learn alot from listening to other and do take advice. Thanks.. Scoot with pride.

I have a NST XY250T-4 but dealer sent me to Roketa for parts on a MC-62-250. I do know that I have a Disk Brake in rear, I muffler has the chrome strip on it (not big black bulk like my CN250 helix clone did), I was told by ScooterTronics that this engine is a 260 Classic.
Any where in this forum dealing with this engine? Parts?
Thanks
