Scooterphil, You might want to put the Roadrunner 250 TLX on your short list. It is $1949.00 delivered and I have GPSd mine at 65+mph and over 60mph with both my wife and I. I have had no problems with it and found Evosales easy to do business with. They do what they say and scooter and paperwork arrived the same day. It went together easy and other than some tweaking to mirror and trunk everything works great. As you can see I think it pretty good looking too.

Like to post a note of thanks to SWAKK. I checked out your downloads of service manuals and they will help greatly. You have done a great service to the wrench turners that bought scooter that need a lot of attention.
Thanks again friend

I am new here, so I hope this gets posted properly and everyone interested gets a chance to read it and maybe help me out. I have ordered a Roadster SE 250 from allnewsports.com. Unfortunately, it was before I found you guys and what I have seen has caused me some concerns, so I began to google! Turns out the other designation for the 247cc Linhai is the LH170MM and if you go to the following: www.geocities.jp/liner_jb/manual09.htmlyou will be pleasantly surprised by an online manual in both English and chop suey with diagrams, part numbers, etc. ;D Now. can anyone give me some sort of checklist I can use to prep this scoot from the case to the road? This is my first scoot, although I have ridden cruisers and sportsters and I am mechanically inclined. Just a little nervous due to negative posts on my seller's conduct. Thank you all for being here!

Thanks warstein!
That was a "257cc" not 247, and, Roketa has a somewhat helpful website at roketa.com for their distributors mostly.
I'll get the list......

I have an NST scooter with a 244cc engine and a CVT, I want to change oil in the gear box but I cannot find the drain or fill plugs. On another website I read that the fill and drain plugs are near the belt cover . The drain on the lower right and the fill on the upper left side. I pulled the lower plug and it is dry. please advise what I need to do to change the gear oil or lube it.

Agreading; Welcome to the Dawg Pound! As a new member and owner of a scoot, in addition to this forum, you should know about Stan Jessup's website: www.oregonvintage.com Check it out. Lots of good info about your type engine/drive train, in addition to common parts for sale. Below is the specific link to "CVT & Gear oil". The fill bolt is not covered but the drain bolt is covered by the CVT cover. Also, do a search here on the forum for gear oil change info. Many good posts have been made on the subject. KYMCO 250S. what engine is it says Kymco on the engine block and CVT cover as well as the cover where the fan goes on the 150's. Doesn't say Linhai anywhere on it. Is this an oversized GY6. Book says 251 CC and 20.9 HP. trying to find out roller size and weight as well as belt size.

Twister; My impression is that this is KYMCO's own engine design. No doubt, initially it was based on something but I don't think it is like the GY6/CFMoto/Linhai clones. Should be one peppy scoot with that HP. My new Linhai 300 is listed at 22 HP and you can really feel the difference over the CFMoto/Honda 250 engine. May be caused by more than just greater displacement.

I've been told, this engine is a take off on the honda 250 and Kymco made their engines at one time. a bored out and new valve design over the honda 250. It will outrun the honda.

I'm pretty sure that roller size is 23x18. The same 23x18 rollers Stan sells for CFmoto/Helix engines are listed on other pages as being for Kymco 250s.

Most 150 GY6 engines seam to come stock with 18x14 13 gram weights (a little too heavy for many), but I did encounter one that had 17 gram weights. Some 250's are using 23x18 26 gram weights while others come with 24x18 weights. New CFMoto variators have 20.3 gram weights in them. I think the only way to know what you actually have is to remove, measure and weigh them. BTW, 23x18 and 24x18 sizes will interchange just fine on the CFMoto 250's. Linhai 250's use 20x12 weights (8 of them). Stan I'm pretty sure that roller size is 23x18. The same 23x18 rollers Stan sells for CFmoto/Helix engines are listed on other pages as being for Kymco 250s.

Here's a modification that seems real important to the Tank and Roketa 250's... Tank 250 vs Roketa Bali 250 comparison" I bought both of these bikes, the tank from evosales for 2100.00 and the roketa from extreme scooters for 1900.00. they are the same bikes right down to the kick stands and both experience the same problems, overheating due to a body that was designed for an air cooled engine and a really lousy fan. before I altered the internal body the fan ran continueously and would not cool down in heavy traffic, I baffled around the radiator to completely enclose it with fire retardent foam so that any air passing into the body was channeled thru the radiator, also installed an indicator lamp on the fan wiring harness so I would know when the fan would kick on, after the aforementioned the engine stays very cool and the only time the fan kicks in is when in heavy or stopped traffic. as for the advertised top speed, the only way either of these bikes would see 75mph is in a free fall from a cliff however they cruise very well at 55mph and deliver a very comfortable ride, they start easily and though they both were advertised with kick starters neither has one. I only have 250 miles on one and 60 on the other but so far this has been the only major problem ebell link: www.scooterbbs.com/board/DCForumID11/6266.html

The JMStar Expressway has the CF Moto engine 172MM, CF Moto makes alot of engines for alot of different scooters, Red Streak went to JMStar and ask that they use the CF Moto 172MM instead of JMStars version. No over heating problems plus none I know of at all. Just the usaual pinched wire, only things we have found while prepping them before they go out, which very few scooters go out without prep although its done if customer wants a discount. There are new high performance exhaust, CDI, Coil, DR Pully Clutches which are the bomb plus DR Pully weights and some from Polini same as Kymco weights plus some fancy lighted air filters and carbs for the 250 engines. Although yes a chinese 250 has a hard time getting 70 when its stock plus I would not suggest running any engine at full ever. why unless you want trouble, need 70 add high performance parts you will get it. I ride a CF Moto V5 same engine in expressway and is the copy of CN250, I have added MRP Exhaust, DR Pully clutch, Polini Bell, CDI, Coil, DR Pully weights and the bike became a new and better version hitting 70 no problem, (plus stock pipe had busted anyway at 5500 so be ready 250 owners), it now takes off so much better I was blown away and I do these kind of mods all the time, the only other time I got these kind of results is when a RX200 gets a new MRP exhaust plus clutch, here are some videos for all to check out youtube.com/scootertronicsscootermike

Hi,
My last 250 came with a spec sheet and the power on the sheet from China said 11.93 kW. China does not rate engines in HP.
So if I multiply 11.93 x 1.341, I get 16HP.
Are you saying that the manufacturers use bogus numbers, or the dealers make up HP ratings?

Post by earlwb on Oct 16, 2007 15:07:03 GMT -5
All the manufacturers tend to use the horsepower readings directly off the crankshaft. So you see advertised crankshaft horsepower ratings. No one wants to use the horspower measured at the rear wheel as it doesn't look as good in the advertisements. Thus they all look very optimistic.
But with the Chinese companies all listing different HP ratings for the same engines, who knows who to believe. I always go with the lower HP numbers seen as these tend to be the more correct ones. I think with the CVT drives and the belt, we lose a significant amount of HP getting to the rear wheel.

Well, my Roketa that arrived last week has a Jonway 257cc engine and the owners manual says, "12.65 kW".
I do know that China measures all their scooters in kW, not HP, and I also know for sure there are more than 2 engine manufacturers in China. When I was in the Phillipines, there were at least 4 types of different engines being imported from China there.

chinese scooters are so much cheaper than name brand ones, but are they really worth it? from what i've been reading it seems like they require a lot of maintanence and know how to use.
i like the price and the pics, and i dont mind getting my hands dirty.
but i just dont want to waste $2000 on a machine that will give me a world of headaches.
any opinions? suggestions about where to buy from? reliable models?

I've been watching video clips of upgrades for the v3/v5 cfmoto 250 engine. The upgrades had to do with the variator, clutch assemply, aluminum head with overhead cam, exhaust, etc. I have ordered a commuter 250 with the cfmoto 244cc engine. Is that engine the same as the one these guys were upgrading? Little confused here, need to sort out if there are variations of the cfmoto 244cc engine. Thanks, GT
