I believe on the Yamaha designed engine the filler is on top between the wheel and the hub. It is a no tool opener. The drain is below the hub.

Can anyone tell me what is the best Chinese 250cc scooter for the money? I know it would probably not compare to Honda, Yamaha, etc., but when you have limited funds, you would want to get the best for your money and I figure there are a lot of riders out there that have a lot more experience than I. Any feed back will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ole goat God Bless our men and women in uniform!

I am ordering a scoot either today or tomorrow and have found the Lance and JMStar to have the best reviews. With that in Mind, "Brands" such as Roketa are made by "Jonway/JMStar". Being as knowledgeable as Rich is and him having a Roketa gives me all the confidence I need to order the Roketa MC-54 250cc. Thanks Rich for all your great write - ups!

Got a question about breaking in my MC54-250, the documentation says to drive the first 300 miles at around 25-30mph, at 300-500 increase to 35-40, at 500-1000 45-50, and 1000-1500 increase to 55-60. The question is; Do i Really have to do this ?? I'm up to 200 miles and it's driving me nuts at the slower speeds

Post by WarrenS on Jun 8, 2008 19:54:22 GMT -5
It is better to vary your speed when breaking in. The actual speed isn't too important. You may want to avoid full throttle but with 200 miles you could run it up now and then. Just don't hold it there. Just use common sense and you will be OK.

Icarfizz, welcome!
I have heard that you can pretty much drive it "normally", within reason.
I have heard that it is good to let the throttle full off at speed many times as this somehow "sucks" the lubricants into where they need to be?
You should have definitely changed your engine and transmission oils by now, also. yes?

Just my two cents, I've been on this site every day for the last 45 days, waiting still for my 250, read all I could, more than once!! The fluid subject..Icarfizz....Use rotela 15w40, then later 1000mls switch to synthetic...gear oil 80/90w,also at 1000 go synth, and the coolant get some Wetter water...made by redline...seems to be good stuff, get the iridium ngk plug, and even if the scoot runs good PDI YOUR BUTT OFF, get to know your scooter!!!!! Now after I get my scooter I'll most likely come up with some more insite...I'm good at "piddlin" I love tinker and build things so I'll start a new thread then....I want to contribute to this site as much as possible... I have just over 600 miles on my MC 54 250B. Yesterday on my way to work it hesitated a couple of times then stalled out after I stop at the store. No trouble coming home but the wind was so bad I could her or feel in surge but the tach was steady the whole way. Any thoughts on this?.

You didn't mention the speed at which you were traveling.
Any sign of gas smell, poor idling/stalling out or gas dripping under the scoot?

I need some expert advice. I have a 2008 MC54 250B with 1900 miles. The other day when I was returning from work I was booking along @ 55 mph when I slowed down to turn it stalled. Now it starts up but stalls when I try and accelerate. I check the feul and vacuume lines look ok. Any ideas when I should start?.

I just purchased a 2008 Lance Duke Touring 250. I am good enough to do most of any needed work on it myself but I can't figure out how to ghange the gear oil. It looks as if the rear hub has a bolt half way up to designate the level of the oil but no bolt down below to let it out. This is built by ZNEN. Thank You!

If anyone needs to repair the YY250cc engine for stalling, I can offer a fuel pump replacement kit for 50.00 plus packaging and shipping. It takes about 30 minutes to install and does not make any changes to scooter except you can go 75MPH without any worry of stalling. ;D ;D

Thanks for the info Jim. I recently took delivery on what was supposed to be a Roketa? Machoman 260 from Scooternitro. I selected this distributor because all reviews I had heard were positive. The scoot I received had a plate under the seat indicating a 244.3cc engine.
To say the least, I'm a little confused. The exhaust looks similar to the 257 CVT in your post. It seems I have read other posts somewhere, where the wrong plate/wrong information was listed on the plate. When it comes to Identifying the engine as be horizontal v. vertical, I guess I would be clueless.
Beyond this engine displacement discrepency, the scoot arrived in great shape, and I'm getting ready to do the PDI and get it on the road. (BTW- I sold my '03 Harley Dyna SuperGlide and switched to this bike....As they said on "Dances With The Wolves"...Good Trade")

I have a 2008 MC54 250B with 1900 miles. It stalled out then it was ok at idle but stalled upon acceleration. The fuel lines were replaced during the PDI. Needless to say I tore the thing down since nobody on the board had any ideas ( except Wildbill wanting some spell corrections " Thanks Bill" ) any way I finally got the time off from work to get it running and took a 200 mile ride today. Goes to show that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. If anyone encounters this problem I'll share my unique solution.

I have a 2007 VIVA 250 roadster--it has 13 inch wheels--and the cf moto---rear exhaust on the head---which you said is the 244 engine. This seems like a great bike---and it runs 55-60 with two up. I need a taller windshield and a manual. The bike is made by Shanghi JM Star--- who sells the aftermarket parts

Hi guys, a noobie again on his third post.
First, I'd like to say how grateful I am that I found this site. I've learned so much from everyone about Chinese scoots and what to expect. A little over a month ago I experienced the dreaded sudden left turn cage. I smacked into her, totaling my beloved 87 Helix that I've been babying and riding for 10 years. I'm lucky I too wasn't totaled. For the first two weeks it was pain city all over, with massive swelling and road rash. The swelling, fever and rash are now almost gone in my thighs, legs, head, and feet. Believe me, I can sympathise with Sunshine, whose injuries are far worse.
I intend to attempt a rebuild but in the meantime I need something to ride. I have ordered a 260 China/Yamaha scoot with a Yamaha-Jianshe engine equipped with a supercharger and intercooler that supposedly has much improved torque and puts out 20 HP that will get it to 90 mph. I don't know whether this is just hype or true. Im pretty sure it will hit 90 mph straight down, but I don't know about on the road.
I understand it is manufactured under a joint 50-50 venture between Yamaha and Jianshe in their new factory in Shanghai. Does anyone have any experience with or know anything about these supercharged engines in scoots?
I expect delivery of the bike to my house, assembled, tested, inspected, and licensed in about a week or so from an established dealer in my state.
Thanks for any info anyone can share.

Well, in all the scooters like that so far that I have seen or heard about, there is no supercharger or intercooler, it is all hype and false advertising. The closest I saw was someone had put on a electric fan to blow air into the air intake. Please post pics and stuff when you get it, as we'd all love to see it too and check it out.

Since my last post, and while waiting for delivery of my "260" cc scoot from a Houston dealer, I've been reading and researching what will likely need to be done, based largely on comments found on this great site. One of the first things I intend to do is change the plug. I am what most would call "an old coot" by virtue of simply living long enough. Nothing to it. all you have to do is stay alive and you will someday get there, ... faster than you think. Back in the early 1950's in the beach area of southern California I had a little Renault 4-CV because it was the only new car I could afford. I was in a hilly oil field area where bikers often did a little informal hill jumping and worked off nervous energy. After a few minutes of watching one guy he tired and came over and we engaged in a little frendly conversation. We were talking engines and plug wear. The guy suggested that I try some platinum plugs in my little hi-rev 750 cc Renault engine. He gave me four used Lodge platinum plugs he had saved after putting new ones in his bike. They were the correct size for my little car. Also, it turned out that the friendly guy was none other than Keenan Winn, old time movie actor who back then was at the peak of his career. I put those plugs in the engine with a wide gap and never had to set them again. I've been a devotee of platinum plugs ever since. Iridium sort of snuck up on me. I'd never heard of them until reading the great posts at the beginning of this thread. So this morning I decided to research the differences between the various tipped plugs, with emphasis on iridium and platinum. Eventually I found my answer and have decided to stick with platinum even though iridium has about an 18% higher melting temperature over platinum. If you want a quickie education on spark plugs go to this site. pay special attention to the last post and short summary conclusion at the end. cheers. www.team-integra.net/sections/articles/showArticle.asp?ArticleID=419

earlwb said the talk about superchargers and intercoolers on scooters is all hype. Well here's a commercial 125 cc scooter you can buy. cars.uk.msn.com/Motorbikes/Bikes.aspx?cp-documentid=4652865Delivery of my new 260 cc has been delayed due to the hurricane. The dealer near Houston is still without electrical power, and most gas stations are closed. He assures me that the bike is OK and has the new new upgrades, which include a supercharger and intercooler, along with some other things to improve high speed handling. We shall see.
