The bikers as well as the cagers are just pissed kuz gets 100mpg's, lol!!!! ;D In good weather, I used to ride my Elite 250 to work. I had to remind folks yeah, I get wet now and then, but my trip is 52 miles round trip, and I can ride to work for a week on less than 3 gallons of gas...

Yep. That is pretty much what I saw, same color and all, but the one I remember had a long double seat and no rack. I thought it was the most gorgeous bike ever. For cars, it came for me when a neighbor of dad's bought a spanking new 1972 Buick Centurion convertible, also red, with the red interior. dad called it "arrest me red". Wow... But did it come with the optional blonde package?

But did it come with the optional blonde package? I have never seen a bike or car that came with that package! If it had been offered, sales may have been much higher! OTOH, I have a friend that is divorced from a centerfold-model looking woman - he has a t-shirt that reads "Divorcées - No matter how good she looks, somewhere, somebody is tired of her sh#t" That happened with Centurion man. A year or so after he bought the car, he and wifey split. She got the house, he got the Buick, his Norton motorcycle, and his saxophone. I think he was happier...

I now have 9000 K on my china scooter and they have been trouble free miles. That being said it is time for new tires and when I install them I will do a complete inspection and adjustment to entire scooter. Any suggestions of things I should give a hard look at or replace would be appreciated. I plan to adjust valves and check wiring. Over 5500 miles, its time.

I really think we need to have two new categories. Even Honda's and Yammer's are being built in China now. I think we should call them Internet scooters rather then China scooters.
I'm actually pretty happy with my scooter. It's an eagle craft, (think BMS). It's still a chinese made bike, but overall it's not bad. The only annoyances with it, is I have a rattle somewhere in the front, and the front brakes do make some noise... I think the slides on the calipers need to be lubed. If I use the front brake to scrub a little speed off it makes kinda a groan but not grind sound. I will be ordering new brake pads in the next month for it and when I tear it down, I'll inspect and lube everything then. Other then that, it's a great little bike.

Before I bought my scoot, I looked around. I was at the Honda dealers. There was a scooter there with a $10,000 price tag. I about had a heart attack. I figured that I could save a lot with the chinese scooter. I thought it might be fun working on them. I even bought me a lift so I can work on it without breaking my back. I only have 70 miles on it so far but I love it. It's a Jonway 250. I also have a Sunny 300. I plan on saleing it this coming spring. Ride safe my friends and have fun.

Why do we hate?
It is a genetic imperative. For millions of years people lived in small hunter/gatherer bands. When the band got too big they would start to fight. Some would agree with the old man. Others with the kid. Soon the kid and his followers would stomp off to find their own territory. Those who did not do this died of starvation, so eventually that trait became the only trait there was. Unfortunately there is no territory for us to stomp off to these days so we start wars, which are another way to decrease population pressure.
The issue has nothing to do with facts. It has to do with getting psyched up to fight. So it does not really matter whether 5 Tao Tao are better than one Vespa, or vice versa.
So, why do the moderators allow threads like this? Controversy generates reader interest, why else would I have read all 7 pages of this when I knew exactly what it was going to be like before I started?

When people refer to Chinese bikes, they automatically are assumed to mean bikes "designed", made, and imported from China, with Chinese quality control. The big names who happen to produce bikes in China aren't considered Chinese bikes per se because they were designed in say Japan or Italy with requisite quality control from their respective countries.

The big names who happen to produce bikes in China aren't considered Chinese bikes per se because they were designed in say Japan or Italy with requisite quality control from their respective countries. There is a big difference between a Lance scooter made by Znen compared to a Piaggio/Aprilia/Vespa assembled in China. Lance made requests and set specs and had to hope that Znen would honor their agreement while Piaggio maintains their own full time engineers and quality control technitions stationed at the Chinese factories that do work for them. When manufacturing process or materials do not meet spec they are rejected before any product is shipped to them. That greatly reduces the defect rate of the product that they sell. Lance finally had to drop most of their product line and start rebuilding their reputation going with Sym built bikes instead. That these Piaggio Group bikes go on regular promotions that reduce the purchase price to within a few hundred dollars of the run of the mill Chinese bikes makes them a very intelligent choice for those on a budget who can't afford surprises or the loss of time chasing down quality control issues. The option to get low interest dealer financing instead of having to use a high interest credit card just increases the value. I don't see it as hatred but disappointment that it is still such a roll of the dice with so many of the Chinese products. Especially as the dark cloud from other products such as infant foods with malamine poisoning babies, infants teething products comming from China laced with lead, etc just add to the disenchantment with Chinese products.

No I dont believe that this thread is a bad thing. I think that it lets people know that if they want a china scoot its not a lost cause. It lets them know that there are plenty of us out there that have them, work on them for the pleasure it gives us, save a lot of money by doing so, and just plain enjoy them. Myself and many others have stated this in this thread but others keep wanting to say this can not be. Well guess what WE LIKE THEM . I am not disappointed the parts are cheap, its fun to do my own maintence, and even so by proper care and not mistreating the scooter I have gotten almost 2 years of riding it every day enjoyment for nine hundred dollars. Whats not to like?

It also lets people know that there are alternatives from the major brands during their incentive programs that come very close to the price point of a Chinese bike with the potential to garner even greater savings overall without all the tinkering. It is not a world without choices and for those who are holding off getting a scooter because the only affordable bikes come from China they can see that it is not really 100% true.
