You are correct about the Pegasus coming with a water temperature gauge. I'd like a tach also, but...

Heh.....add this to the FWIW department. The left mirror on this scoot has reverse threads (8mm). So don't be surprised when you try to adjust the things. And if you go to buy new mirrors, be sure you get a reverse bolt, or a reverse-thread shaft (depending on the mirror type). Here's one on Ebay that looks pretty nice......and it comes with a reverse 8mm bolt.

Since it has been a year when I had my seat done, I researched to get info on the company and Bad news, there not listed in the phone book and the shop isn't there any more. Damn economy!!!! Those turn signals on ebay are pretty sweet though!!!!!!!! I'm debating on switching mine out....again

Too bad about that seat cover place....thanks anyway. Started on some electrical mods today..first a set of turn signal buzzers from Radio Shack. A 12v power port from Walmart... And replacing the front reflectors...a set of 3-LED clearance lights from Walmart. These are wired to stay on all the time with the ignition. I've been adding a little bling here and there.....there's a chrome molding visible in the last photo. More electrical mods in the works.

Hi guys...new member here but not new to bikes. I plan to pick up a 2008 BMS Pathfinder 150 this weekend which as you know is an Xingyue ITA with a different dress on.
Can one of you please tell me what the valve clearances are for this bike? Thanks

Lots of conflicting info about this......about .004" should do it ok. Some people recommend .005" for the exhaust, but the valves start getting noisy at that clearance.
The other thing is wear.....when it's new, the valves might tighten up slightly, so I guess it's best to go wider at the beginning. Check them again around 3-400miles and see what's happening.
There's no 100% absolutes here.....

FWIW....while working on this scoot, I've found several 6mm bolts that had partially stripped threads. Here's two with the green arrows....there were others. The horn bolt was tight, but not bottomed out all the way (the horn was loose). Sloppy assembly procedures I guess.....anyway you should fix any you find like this. This only required a 6x1.0 metric tap and a small tap handle to clean up the threads. And new bolts of course......

Thanks Blue and yeah I plan to give it a going over after its in its new home. I also plan on upjetting the carb for starters.

I'm not touching the carb jetting till I get everything else straightened out, and a few more miles on it. I haven't had it over 50mph yet....runs ok. If you've had the seat bucket off, you've probably seen the pulse injection device (if your model has one). The upper hose rubs the frame, and there's not a whole lot you can do about it (short of re-locating the device further backward in the frame). I took mine off to examine it, and sure enough the hose was almost rubbed through (red arrow). This whole setup is unnecessary anyway......so to test it, I simply removed the whole thing, and blocked off the port by the exhaust with a DIY metal plate, and plugged the other two ports (rubber hoses). I wasn't able to test this yet (raining), but just idling it sounds quieter, with a maybe more stable idle. It is an emission device, so be aware of that if you want to permanently remove the thing. While I was at it, I adjusted the valves for the first time.....the exhaust valve was set at about .002", which is a little tight. I set them both at .003". That's a little tighter than most people recommend, but this engine is almost broke in, and the valve adjustment shouldn't change much from now on. (I don't like clicky valves). I'll check the adjustment again at the next oil change. Adjustment on this model is very easy.....

Another mod......covering the engine side of the seat bucket with thermal insulation. Keeps from cooking whatever is in the bucket. This is some left-over stuff from another project. It's used as a thermal wrap for manifolds and other automotive uses. I did the same thing to my Roketa....it works good.

Yeah Blue I saw that Pulse Injector emissions device smashed up against the frame so I'll keep that in mind now that you pointed it out to me.
Also by looking at your engine I assume you have to remove the valve cover (top of the block) to check the valves. My dirt bikes have small caps over the valves. All you have to do is unscrew these little caps and the valves are right there.
This bike has 1300 miles on it so I'm gonna go with synthetic oil now.
I also hooked up a battery tender to the battery but when I plug it in the battery makes a sort of bubbling/cooking sound. The battery works fine and the battery tender tells me the battery is good. What is this noise?

While you have the battery charger hooked up, check the charging voltage. Sounds like it's way too high.

I like having warmth in the bucket. Keeps my food warm when I go out to pick up a lunch, if I need it cool it goes in the trunk out back.

Heh....That storage area on both my scoots is mostly stuffed with tools and other spare parts, some of which don't take kindly to being cooked all the time. The manual even cautions about that problem. My little Slime compressor for instance, and my tire repair kits, shouldn't be subjected to constant heating. This Xingyue storage bucket is sealed up much better than that of my Roketa, when the seat is closed. I'd think the thermal insulation will help keep everything in there a bunch cooler. I rarely carry heated food around anyway....even in my car.

I'll admit.....I can't ride around on an unmodified scoot, or anything else for that matter. Here's some more bling.... A set of chrome stick-on letters from Auto Zone. The stock logo was missing the "1" when I got this scoot. The original owner had it disguised as a 50 I guess. I had to put the letters on this area of the plastic.....further up and the letters wouldn't sit flat. Here's a little sun/rain/wind deflector for the instrument panel. It's made from a 4" wide strip of lawn edge molding, a strip of door edge guard, and some double-sided tape. As with all these sorts of mods, they may get changed after I look at them for a while. But I think they came out pretty good. ;D

I'm not much on bling but those chrome letters do look tight. That brings me to something I wonder about since the last owner removed the number 1 from the 150 to make it appear that the scoot was a 50cc. Is there any way a cop can know for sure its not a 150? Does 157QMJ mean its a 150? Also about my battery charging noise question. The battery reads about 12.7 volts. When I read the voltage while charging it reads about 14.4 volts and I hear a bubbling/cooking sound.

^^^^^^Humm. My guess would be your battery has a problem. Can you hear the same noise using a different charger, or just when the scooter is doing the charging by itself?
Keep a check on the battery....escaping acid fumes can corrode the terminals.
Oh...I asked a cop about that 50cc thing. He said they go by how big it looks, and how fast you were driving (if you don't have plates). I've never been stopped on my Roketa, even though it's a big-looking scoot, and I do go faster that the 30mph limit for 50s.
Yeah that 157 designates a 150cc engine....I doubt any cop would know that however.

Yeah the battery makes the noises on another battery tender also. I happen to have 2 Battery Tender Plus's. Can't tell if it makes the noises when the scooter is charging it because the scoot is too loud.
Other than the bubbling noises it works fine. Scoot starts immediately and the battery tender shows a good battery that is charging.

So I picked up my Xingyue 150 today. Very nice scooter, so far I like it a lot. But I have one issue... I can't quite seem to get the carb dialed in. I screwed it all the way in and went slowly out until max RPMs and everything, but when it is in lower RPMs and you hit the throttle on the center stand it will respond quickly, but when i'm riding it, it will sort of sputter a bit before it gets going. This is especially true when the engine is cold. Anyone got any hints on what it could be? Runs fine at higher RPMs no problem. it's got 12 miles on it... Valves?

Mine was kind of the same way. I even up'd the jets, upgraded the intake, got a banjo coil, a no limit rev limiter, and got a new exhaust. But the real difference came when the bike finally broke in...around 2,000 miles.

With new engines it's usually a good idea to dismantle the carb completely, including removing the jets, and clean it all out with carb cleaner. The corrosion inhibitor they ship with can clog your jets and the pilot jet is easily clogged.

Frankly I wouldn't mess with the carb till you put a lot more miles on it. Just put up with the quirks for a while. You might try running some Seafoam in the gasoline.....the stuff might clean up any residue in the gas tank or the carb. Consider replacing the fuel filter ASAP.....they are sometimes installed backwards, causing clogging that you can't see. Something like this works better than what it came with. Some of the other threads indicate a few of these scoots are shipped with valves set too tight......I checked mine at about 700 miles for the first time. The exhaust was about .002" (set it at .004"). I'll probably install a bigger main and pilot jet eventually, but at 800 miles on the odometer, it runs good with the stock jets, and never taking the carb apart. Good luck with yours....

I just purchased an 08 XingYue 150 last weekend and I have a cracked rear luggage rack. Can anybody tell me where I can get another one? I looked on the internet but haven't found one yet?
I'd also like to look into a new seat too.

(riceburner)When it comes to the luggage rack, it's plastic and somewhat flimsy, if it were me I would take the luggage rack to a fab shop and have them replicate it with metal tubing, then I would use a rhino lining to protect it. I think that would give it a hard custom look, thats bulletproof!! As far as the seat goes, I had my seat re-wrapped. I think trying to find a new seat to fit the contour of the gas tank would be a chore (Gross) The valve adjustment is a great idea. Keep in mind the valve cover gasket. I over tightened mine just a hair and shredded that cheap rubber thing, then it was a two month struggle with an oil leak. Then I really over tightened it and cracked the valve cover where the bolts go through. I've been through a lot learning what to do and what not to do with my scoot and that has been by far the biggest b#$@%

That seat cover place is OOB..too bad. After trying a bunch of configurations (none looked good), I came up with these LEDs from Walmart. Mount next to the plate on a bracket. They're on all the time with the ignition, engine not running. Amazing....I could not find a 12v DC switched voltage source under the seat. I had to run wires all the way up to the horn. I think they'll work out.....If I find something better later on, I'll swap them out.

Hummm.....I'm interested what sort of fuel mileage you get with those size jets. I've been getting 70mpg stock so far.
I've been thinking #38 pilot. and #115 main, and also removing the screen behind the air filter (less restriction). Where did you get the jets?

What kind of gear oil are you guys using? The manual I have says 15w 40 but I don't believe it for a second. My old 50cc used 80w 90...
