Well let the Journey begin Tonight I was on my way out the door and there was a large box on the front porch, you guessed it, Rover is in the house. He arrived in excellent condition, I will make a little vest for him and travel around town for a few photo opps. I have a busy schedule this week end, wedding on Saturday and then visiting some friends for dinner on Sunday and of course all the regular weekend madness to deal with. I will shuttle Rover to Boonie in North Hampton, Ma next weekend, November 15 or 16. (well that is the plan anyway) I will also give him a little bag to keep some souvenirs of his travels.

Saw your addition JC. I wonder if we could send him in a loop around Florida or something. They've got good weather most of the year. We'd have to get riders all over that state though.
Also, rerun did you add that red area around the carolinas?
So...
How do you folks want to implement tracking him? It's fairly easy to set up a blog-site that integrates a map, pictures, and tales of our Derring-Do. There's Blogger (Google) and Wordpress, and others. An internet forum is great for planning--but things tend to get buried in forum threads.

Yessir spacecowboy, I 'enhanced' he map in the Carolina area, but although the area indicated is very large, I can make trips in the area as needed, Charlotte is pretty central to the area I drew out, so if necessary I could 'octopus' out to deliver/collect our furry friend to pass on to as many as would care to participate. Fortunately or unfortunately, I can take the time to do stuff that others cannot due to work and family schedules. The boundaries are not all that defined either, so as I have said, pretty flexible. I think that the tracking needs its own site/blog whatever, pics and such can eat up a lot of bandwith here, and that is not really cool for the DAWG!. Still would like to see something about a Charity Ride, anyone have any thoughts? I just checked the map anew, I could connect up with J-C pretty easily if there is no dawg between he and I, I would think that someone would pop up in the Columbia SC area, but if not, we could make that connection...

Okay then. Just wanted to make sure no one was just messing with the map or anything. Proboards is free, as far as I know and doesn't actually provide hosting of things like images. What the board software does is that it loads images from somewhere else like Photobucket or Imageshack.
We could track the journey here in a dedicated thread. However, giving the project it's own site would be better and might generate exposure for Scootdawg outside of this forum. And any publicity for Scooters is good publicity. Regarding the issue of Fund-raising for a charity of sorts, Google offers a ready made revenue generating program in the form of Adsense and pay-per-click advertising (It's pay per click).
I like the idea of a Blog since the Blog format fits the subject ongoing story rather well. I'm also a fan of using the Big G (Google) if you haven't noticed already since they provide numerous tools to record the journey as well as hosting--all for free.
That just leaves the question of who wants to manage such a project. I'm behind this thing 100% but it might be nice to have someone else to help run the project site as this whole thing is about collaboration. Possibly someone who is familiar with blogging and Google stuff, who can afford to update the site once every other week or so.
(Other web-master type stuff may also be involved)

Allworld. I want your scoot. She is very pretty.
Anyhow...speaking of where Rover will end up--we've had some more additions to the map since last time. Looks like we've got someone up near KC, Mo and ifly1956 adds even more coverage to the south.
Speaking of ideas, any suggestions for achievements for Rover? Like...visit every location in Johnny Cash's "I've been Everywhere" or Sending him around the entire Gulf coast from Key West to Brownsville? How many Volcanoes can Rover visit? Etc, etc, etc.
Do you guys mind if I use some of the pictures you take on the site that's going to be tracking him? I should have the tracking site up and going by about midweek. It's not going to track GPS, but more or less integrate a map, pictures, and a bit of a narrative to wrap it all together.

I am up for taking Rover all over, but is anyone getting thoughts on sponsors or publicity? I think just getting poochie pup form point A to point B is a great lark, but it would be great to have a purpose established. Just wondering if anyone is looking into this, AND has the Great Big Dawg give his blessings to this endeavor, that is a sanction that this project is a supported ScootDawg function? Not trying to be a wet blanket, but there are some details to address I think before matters get too far down the back roads! ;d Already messaged Lee about it. No response. I hope he didn't have an accident or something. He hasn't posted anything since September. However don't we have some of the committee members on board? Speaking of Boonie, he seems to have disappeared too. I blame The Hell's Angels (Kidding). I've also been floating the idea to people in SE Florida, trying to get the pup to Key West. As for sponsors and stuff--we really can't do anything unless we're associated with Scootdawg (IP issues). It'd probably be easier to get a sponsor once some actual traveling has been done on the pup's part.

I generally won't travel into wooded area's as I am deathly afraid of Big Foot and believe he is out in western mass. That is what has most likely happened to Boonie, just the name is enough to scare me. I will be passing Rover off to preachp this weekend, he is in CT.

Not that i'm opposed to this idea, as I'm certainly NOT, but shouldn't we wait for warmer temperatures throughout the country before we try to make people take long rides?
Also, what're we gonna do with rover when we're finished?

Hello Smorkle: Warmer weather would be great, but I can dress warm enough to get Rover to CT. I think that Rover is about to embark on a never ending journey, "there", is always just a destination away.

It is a bit chilly lately... It would be nice to have warmer weather... BUt, if he makes this way, I'll grab him if I can, and take him where he needs to go... I think a great thing to do, would be get some media attention, and then auction it off for charity.. Ebay does charity auctions.. I think that would be great... All the money could go to help some children's charity.. Since it is a plush scootdawg.. I think it would be cool... What do you guys think?

I am hoping that it doesn't become a pony express run. let him rove down to the keys for a wile.
Then tour the other coast to California then UPS him out to Hawaiian islands than its back to Cal
Hopefully by then spring will be on its way an he can then head to the northern states

I don't think Rover is in a big hurry to get anywhere in particular, I would think that side journeys and such would be welcomed. Regardless of what we are doing here, even if it is just a pass around thing among the dawgs, getting to as many points on the map should be the goal for Rover. Exposure to scootering and/or charity efforts etc. sort of dictates his broadest travels as possible.
Just my thoughts there. I intend on doing photo ops with Rover visiting a number of historic sites, like Revolutionary War battle sites and such, my area has quite a few of those, Rover with the Historical Plaque stuff, maybe astride a cannon barrel or perched upon a statue, who knows what might present itself for Rover Antics...

Once this all gets organized a little more it needs to be decided if Rover will be making any trips to other countries.
I'll be leaving for a couple of weeks of vacation in the Philippines the first week in January. I have stopovers in Honolulu both ways. I could take Rover with me if he has all of his shots. ;D

Well I'm next up. Is it permitted to pass the little guy around a bit before passing him on to the next currier on our list? The New York Scooter club could possibly take him on a tour of the Big Apple and The Usual Suspects Scooter club, out of New Jersey could carry him south. I'm pretty sure those guys would be into it and would take care of Rover.
I still think we should have named him "Scooter"

I'm glad to see that things are progressing on this. I'm going to sticky this thread so that it is easy to find. I'm also going to start a discussion in the moderators forum about it and see if any interest is there to make it an official scootdawg project. I do however, really like that it has been done on a grass roots level and really wonder if sponsorship is needed. You guys are doing a terrific job and I hate to change that with adding a level of management to it.
This is a fun project and is being organized very well.

I suppose you could take him for rides in the company of other scooter clubs--it'd be a great opportunity to meet people who share our interest. Just don't you know, turn over custody to people who aren't on the forum. I'm not really concerned about theft, more about losing touch with the people who have him. Medman, thanks for starting the discussion with the mods. I'm more than happy to provide oversight a project like this To everyone: Do I have your aggregate permission to repost pictures you take in a static blog-type format? Kinda like this? Someone did suggest giving it its own site. That's easy now.
