You can use things like the line tool and the shape tool to give a general area instead of a "distance." i must be missing something ? where is this "toolbar" so i can mark my area ?

I'm in! I marked the map with the places I KNOW I can go, but I'm flexible, so if I need to scoot farther, I can. Shouldn't have to, though, considering I KNOW there's at least one Dawg just north of me and one just south...

Cowboy, I saw this as a one-day round trip. What is it you mean by one-week per rider/segment? I think that would take too long overall to advance the baton to its destination. Every week in the Northeast takes us closer to frost and ice.

Cowboy, I saw this as a one-day round trip. What is it you mean by one-week per rider/segment? I think that would take too long overall to advance the baton to its destination. Every week in the Northeast takes us closer to frost and ice. There's no way we'd be able to do this in one day!!! You realize what that would mean? It would be like taking a one-day cross-country trip to every state in the U.S. ...and stopping to take pictures! You can't cover that much ground in one day, I doubt you could even manage to do it in one WEEK. You have to consider, not all of us have 200+cc scooters, so trip average may be about 40-50mph. Then you have to take into account the time it would take for people to actually meet up, say hi, pass along the dawg, find a scenic spot in which to take a pic, take said pic, and coordinate the meeting with the next person. You also have to consider people's jobs: when will people get time off to do this? Most likely it'll have to happen on weekends only, unless a few links in the chain have additional time after work to pass along the dawg. This could very well take several weeks, if not months, which is why it should be started in the South, where scootering weather is at a maximum, so by the time it gets around to the North, the weather is starting to clear up.

the way I see it, if i were to get the package, it would proabably be on a weekend when myself and the rider meeting up with me could match our schedules up. We would meet up, take some pics, have some lunch, take some more pics and then go our seperate ways.
During the following week, i would take the package around town to as many local landmarks as i could, or try to have a mini-dawg meetup with other locals, take more pics and stuff.
I would also be getting in contact with the next rider to plan the next meetup, hopefully the next weekend, weather and schedules permitting. We would then meet up, take some pics, have some lunch, take some more pics and then go our seperate ways.
at least thats how I envision it working.
now we just need some more people between Houston and Tulsa to sign up.

Right. Northeasters (Allworld, Preachp, boonie, treesoup, and Mustang64). You guys want to start this Fall/Early winter or is starting it in the South and coming up your way in the Spring better for you?
If you guys are up for it, the trail should probably start in Boston (Great city by the way). There are still a few holes in the Northeast corridor, namely around Baltimore/Washington, but nothing that would be impossible given the sheer number of people on this forum.
To Treesoup:
Okay on the whole 1 week thing. The 1 week time-frame has nothing to do with how far away you need to scoot. Most of us have 150cc scooters, and 1 week on the back could get 1 person almost across the country. My bottom is not padded that well.
The idea is, you get the Dawg from another scooterist 1 weekend, then you arrange to take it to the next rider the next weekend (Or whenever, just don't hold on to it too long). 1 week is only a suggested time frame, so if you somehow get ice-stormed/snowed on/something horrendously important that prevents you from riding comes up--that's absolutely fine. Just tell the person you're carrying the Dawg to.
The idea of marking territories was that everyone gets to stay in a range that they feel suits them and their riding capabilities.

I can't seem to post to your map either...but here's my basic info
Location: Lancaster PA Scooter: Kymco People 150 Range: 50 miles east and west, 40 miles north and 25 miles south.
The range is from center...I'm willing to go up to 200 miles total (50 from home to first meeting place, 100 from there to second meeting, another 50 home.

Right. I gave it my best guess on the map. Message me if it's wrong. Thanks, yes, that's pretty close. If necesary, i could go a bit further south and west, but keep it as it is for now.

Wow. Looks like we've got enough in the southeast to keep it going. Don't worry yourselves about sending it my way until we've got more people out this way. I'm sure there are more people in Texas too. I'm kinda an outlier as far as scooterists go.
Would've expected more people on the Gulf Coast. Florida is nice and warmish when everyone else freezes. There's still a bit of a gap around the DC/Maryland/Delaware area.
If you see that your general area's "taken" mark your location and how far you'd want to ride anyways. The more the merrier.

Should there be two maps? I went back to edit my area (to make it a little bigger), but now there's two.... <<ed. quick tip: if you have two of the map open, you opened it twice. Just close one. Not that I'd do anything like that...>>
Oh, and I'm more jealous of all you 250 and 300 riders than ever now.... thanks.
<<ed. yup, even more jealous now.>>

Hi All, Cna;t say for the rest of the Northeast contingent but cold don;t bother me....snow and ice on the other hand are a BAD thing.
I would liek to suggest that we start a progress thread and as each person gets the dog they post saying that they have it. This gives everyone a way to track the pup's progress and location. Also mihgt be nice way to contact the next person in the relay. Just a thought.
P.S. As I said I have BIG scooter so the 100 miles is tentative and that can easliy be expanded if need be.
Ride safe, Ride long.

Preachp...I'm jealous that you get to ride in Connecticut. It's such a gorgeous state (Was in Bristol last summer). Anyhow I've arranged for the Dawg to be sent to Allworld. We still have a sort of "hole" in the chain around Maryland. If you folks know any Dawgs around that area that would be willing to ride Rover...ask them

This is hilarious, I will make the pooch a little vest and take a few tourist shots around town. Then to ............ Where am I going? I figure Dorchester Heights is a good shot, that is where Washington lined his cannons to pin the British Fleet in the harbor, and causing them to surrender and leave Boston, those canons, like our little pup, then were moved to New Hope, PA where Washington crossed the Delaware River. So some how we should see if we can get the little guy to New Hope, PA

if it weren't for the fact that there are others between me and Northampton, I'd take it there myself next year...if that's when we plan to do this...or pick it up there...I'm planning to take my 150 up to Massachusetts from PA during the spring or summer next year.

I am up for taking Rover all over, but is anyone getting thoughts on sponsors or publicity? I think just getting poochie pup form point A to point B is a great lark, but it would be great to have a purpose established.
Just wondering if anyone is looking into this, AND has the Great Big Dawg give his blessings to this endeavor, that is a sanction that this project is a supported ScootDawg function?
Not trying to be a wet blanket, but there are some details to address I think before matters get too far down the back roads! ;d

Hello Preachp: I don't know if there is a set route or not, Boonie is west in North Hampton, Ma so if he is still on board then I think I should pass it to him and then him to you. If not then, from me to you works for me.

Hi Allworld, Works for me either way. Like I said I am not limitied to roads or miles as long as there is no snow or ice.........and looking at the weather it seems like that might be a bit off yet. Anyway I can get him south when he is done with his New England stretch.
Ride safe, Ride Long.
