Is it new or used? You can almost get a new one for that, so be careful!

I don't know anything about that model.
Just remember you can get a new in a box 150 for under $1000.
Don't consider it without a current clean title!
Any more info? Pictures?

What are you in the market for?

I got $550. for it. Not bad since I only paid $300. I mean with parts I had $550. in it, but at least I was able to get my money back. Since you can get a new one for around $700 I don't think I did horriable. + I learned sooooo much working on this one. I just got a little scared only going around 40ish when every car was wizzing around me. I couldn't even change lanes to turn sometimes. I did enjoy the ride and am in no means hanging up scooting I just want more power. I will say though, if I had space to keep it and extra $$ so I could've bought another one without selling this one I would've kept it I'm looking for something that isn't to tall (I'm 5') and that can keep up with traffic. I don't care about going on the interstate or anything but if I want to go down a road to see where it takes me I don't want to be afraid of getting run over. Any ideas? I would like to be able to hold 2 people to so if some of my friends happen to be over we could go somewhere on the scooter.

You got a good price out of that, and it was a pretty cheap and valuable education to boot! I know what you mean about the below 40 mph bikes. It has certainly made me plan my trips better and look further down the road. There have been a couple of times I didn't plan far enough in advance to get in the left lane and ended up having to turn right, then right again, then right one more time to turn left! And with the laws the way they are there you don't have much incentive to own a 50cc. My blue scooter is higher at the seat than the red one, and I've noticed that scooters tend to be as tall or a little taller at the seat than many motorcycles. A lot of folks can only put one foot down when on a scooter. Both of mine have a backrest for the passenger and the red one has no problem with a passenger, never tried it with the blue (50cc) one. I wish I could see this one next to the two I have now so I could compare: www.gsmotorworks.com/detail.cfm?id=779I like the looks of it and it looks like it has many of the qualities I like about both of my scooters combined. The under seat storage of my blue one with the width of the red one. Still prefer the retro style?

Yes I do like retros better, I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick with that because of seat height though. I know some of the other styles have a seat hight of about 29.5 and I can handel that with such little legs I have to take that into account lol I don't want to end up with one that I can only use one leg I don't feel safe for myself doing that. That's the whole reason I got out of riding any type of motorcycles because I never could reach the ground good. I'm going to save some more money up and maybe put some of my tax return in it, and see what I can afford, if not I'll save a bit longer. I also have to go take my motorcycle lic. class (sigh) out of all the things I have to spend money on this is the one that feels like the biggest waste of time / money. But I don't want to end up in jail for driving without a lic. either lol This is one of those stupid laws that dosen't really make since to me. I was looking at this bike because of price. www.powersportsmax.com/product_info.php/cPath/38/products_id/650what do you think? I've also been browsing craigslist to see if anything local comes up, I'm not really sure about buying one from a company? How does that work? I'm sure it's like everything else some good / bad?

With the knowledge you have picked up, you can find a used 150cc locally for cheaper than you'll get it online I bet. Here's a hint, look a little out of Orlando, the smaller towns. You know enough now to diagnose a scooter and see if it's worth what they are asking. Take your time, as much as you can, and find a good deal. I found a Vento 49cc for $120 that runs pretty well, so you can find a good deal, too.

WC, What is your inseam? Mine is about 31 and I can still touch both feet on both of my scooters. Nice looking scooter at Powersportsmax for a non-retro. Pretty good price but another $240 to ship. Remember that when you're shopping. Some include shipping some don't.
When you buy one online they ship it to your door and the truck driver usually (both of mine) unloads it and drags it into your garage. Then you have him wait while you take the top of the crate off to do a wuick check for obvious damage from shipping.
If there is any you either refuse shipment or call the scoot company and tell them about it. Then you have to decide whether you trust them to work with you or not.
Sometimes there is a little assembly required, like putting on the front wheel, handlebars, etc. Simple stuff.
Then they mail you an MCO (manufacturers certificate of origin) and you take that in to get your tag and title.
ScottFla is probably right. Where you live there are probably lots of scooters resting in sheds that only need a valve adjustment or a carb cleaning. In my neck of the woods there are almost none.
Don't buy anything used unless it has a clear title and the tagged continuously unless you research what it will take to get a tag on it and are willing to deal with it.

Another note on ordering online.
First check out the company, do a search for it here.
Call them on the phone and order something they currently have in stock, otherwise you don't know how long you'll be waiting. Don't just go to the website and click through the sale.
Tell them you are a member of this forum. It's not fair, but members usually get treated better because the dealers know the sale will be documented here. Some offer member discounts.
Use a credit card to pay for it. This gives you more leverage if there is a problem with the sale.

Thanks guys, I'm going to keep looking on craigslist but right now everyone wants about $1300 for used scooters (even up to $800 for 50ccs) It's a little crazy! One guy I went home yesterday to visit my family and I stopped to look at a scooter and was told it was $1500 and that was a great deal cause a new one was $3000. (not a name brand) so we all know he thought I knew nothing as was going to make a quick $$ sigh lol So I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I don't mind doing some work but if everyone wants around $1500 I might as well just buy a new one. Tek, thanks for the info about the online sties. I will deff. post / & call first. I'm going to take my time for a little bit and see what I can find localy then go that route. I didn't want to spend over a $1000.00 because I have to take my Motorcycle lic. test as well but I'm not paying a new price for a used bike. If anyone is local and see's a good deal send it to me Btw. My inseam is about 28 inches.

WC, I have that problem here too. There aren't many scooters here in town, but when I did find a used one, they wanted as much as a new one sold for. I think they are hoping most folks don't know about online sales. I'm with you - I wouldn't pay a new price for a used scooter. Besides, they're nothing like the smell of a new, fresh scooter when you uncrate it! And you can pick up 150's all day long online for around or under $1000, shipped to your door. It sounds like you're a little bump like my wife! For size comparison, here is a picture of my wife on my scooter. She is 4' 11" - Tek

Tek, Yeah I am short like your wife I just wish I was that skinny cyberbeer65, thanks for the link but speaking of being skinny the weight limit is only like 240 and weighing 220 I want to have more wiggle room then that for hauling stuff or a friend. I did find one scooter thats about an hour away for $500. the listing says this do you guys know anything about this brand? I've treid to find it online but don't come up with much. I called the guy and couldn't get much info because he was at work. He ''claims'' its American? I find that higly unlikely??

|
Post by teknoyd on Feb 8, 2010 20:01:06 GMT -5
That the bike is American is totally unlikely. Either he doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's lying! If it was American made, he'd be wanting a lot more than that for it because of American production costs.
It's five years old - the only way I'd buy it is if I test drove it and it was everything I thought a bike should be and he had a clean title for it. Then I'd talk him down!

Hey guys,
I found another scooter on craiglslist here's the post:
What do you guys think? I offered $500.00 haven't heard back. I know I don't want to do over that for a used bike even for aftermarket mods. Any other words of advice? It does have a clean FL title.

Post by teknoyd on Feb 11, 2010 23:13:08 GMT -5
Did you hear back?
Kind of a hi-rev stall spring for a daily driver, but should still be OK. The mods sound great, as long as they were done right. I would examine it and drive it, make sure it starts and runs and drives smooth. Determine whether it's worth taking a chance on it.
I'm curious why and how long he's had the air box off... might want to inquire about that.
If you end up getting it you might want to get as much of the receipts and documentation as you can in case you need to replace any of the parts he installed.
So - how does it feel to be scooterless?

Hey Tek, No I didn't hear back. I guess he thought $500 was to low, or he hasn't checked his mail. Like I said though I'm not going over that for used. I found a local place where I can get a brand new 150 for just over $1000. with a full years warranty. it's like $1300 for tax / tag / title everything. So I can't see spending over $500 when I can get a brand new one for that. I was curious about the air filter as well. I'm a little hessitant about buying one of the net after doing some research since I'm still fairly new I don't want to take any chances. I'm still looking for a used one because I don't have $1300 right now lol As for not having a scooter two words : It Sucks! I didn't realize you could miss something so much.

WC, Yeah, it's funny how quick scootering gets in your blood! I know you're concerned with seat height. Maybe this will help you with picking a style. Most websites don't mention the height to the seat. This website lists the seat heights for the various bikes. They only vary by an inch or so. Remember, these are going to be the typical styles you can find at about any website or store. For starters, this one is a variation of your 50cc. It has a 30 inch seat height: www.greenearthscooters.com/detail.cfm?id=712This one is 29.5: www.greenearthscooters.com/detail.cfm?id=685This one is 30: www.greenearthscooters.com/detail.cfm?id=424This one is 31. It is also the longest and allegedly the fastest. It has 13 inch wheels, the others have 10: www.greenearthscooters.com/detail.cfm?id=688Looks like it might be a nice day here tomorrow. Well, low forties - I'll have to get out and ride! - Tek

Hey guys,
I went to a dealer today to look at some scooters. I was told (now I know this is prob. BS which is why I just went for research and to come back and ask you all) I was told that the online scooters don't get the first quality that the dealerships get and that all of them that sell today are bad? Now I doubt this and was just wondering if you had heard anything about online dealers not getting the best stuff? Or is that only certian places? Tek the first link you sent me, they are selling that bike at $1099. and it looks to be the same one. It felt pretty good to me. I'm just a little scared of ordering one off the net. I know I can do stuff with the motor but that's on one all ready put together.
Can one person put these bikes together?
Also cyberbeer65, I like that bike I really do!! It's just if I'm going to spend $1000 or more I'd like to just go pick one up at the dealership.

WC, I have never heard that the online dealers get "lesser" bikes of the same brand. Doing the final assembly is probably easier than the stuff you've already done. On my 150, I had to bolt on the front wheel and the handlebars and the luggage rack. Here it is after I peeled the cardboard off the shipping container: On the 50 I had to put in the battery and that was about it. Here it is freshly opened: You will need a second set of hands to get it out of the crate without scratching it. The cardboard comes off, then you unbolt the frame piece by piece, then you have to lift the bike out. Some models you will need to put on the front wheel, and that is the hardest, not because it is actually difficult, but because it is clumsy and awkward. I had my wife sit on the bike and balance it while I had some blocks under its belly (with a blanket between the bike and the blocks so it wouldn't get scratched). But to get the front wheel on you have to line it up with the forks, hold a spacer in place, gently pry open the front disc brake pads and slide it in place. One more set of hands would have made that go quick and smooth, but I was, of course, stubborn and in a hurry! After that, connect the battery, change out the oils, put in the gas and kick it a few times to get fuel in the lines and then go. You don't want to crank the starter for more than a few seconds at a time or you will burn it up. Of course you will want to go over the bike with a fine toothed comb and locktite all the nuts, bolts and screws before you put any miles on it. Read up on the PDI. That's something you'd want to do even on a bike you get from a dealer, just to make sure. - Tek

going in the morning to look at a 2008 Chua scooter. It has 400miles on it, and the guy claims it'll go 70mph stock? I've googled and havent' been able to find much other then one version that has a 34in seat (which I hope this one is not cause that would mean it would be wayyy to tall for me) want's a good price for it, $500 with a clean FL title. So I'm at least going to check it out tomorrow. Hoping this is a good scooter, because I really would like to stay under a $1000 with tax/tag/title/ MC lic. If I can. If I buy new thiers no way I can do that. So we'll see

Hey guys, Bad news the scooter was BIG time crap. It turned out to be a scooter that had been wrecked, totaled out and bought by this guy who looked like he ran a chop /shop for scooters. The guy didn't want to show me the title (don't get me wrong it had potential) but it also needed about $500 work just on the body parts alone just from what I could see. So I said thank you but no. LOL. If someone won't show me a title they can keep it lol. I stopped by my local scooter shop and they have some very nice models in right now that I might end up getting the shop I went to before was one I had heard had cheaper bikes but ended up being not the greatest so I stopped by my parts place and they had some nice small 150's. Called gators? Price tag had $1400 but they said they prob. could get it down to my price which I said wasn't over $1000.00 out the door. And to call back tomorrow. Have you guys heard of the gators? Good / bad scooters? If I can spend $1000.00 locally I’d rather do that then I don’t have the hassle of putting the thing together which I’m still a little scared of doing on my own. I don’t really have another pair of hands to help. I did buy a new full-face helmet Gotta love when Wal-Mart clearances out the old summer items got it for $30!! So the search continues!

Well that's too bad. Reminds me of the last used scooter I looked at.
The guy said it is in "great shape" aside from not running. When I looked at it I couldn't find a single body panel that wasn't damaged. Small, but important missing parts galore, too.
Good luck!
