Hey crowdog!
I am a Vocational Trainer for a 23 year old named Saul with Fragile X Syndrome/Mild Autism. His autistic behaviors are less severe (hand flapping and the like) but his FRX means he needs 24 hour supervision. He is in a single family setting with some friends of mine, and the 3 of them (husband named Dan, his wife Rachel and Saul) co-own a small, private bookstore. Dan and Rachel receive a monthly stipend for taking him in. He has not had any contact with his parents in several years and he has expressed no desire to see them. His routine is about as strict as we can make it, but Lancaster Co. MH/MR is a little lax when it comes to licensing and inspections...they usually wait until the last minute to tell everyone, and that throws everything for a major loop. Saul's service provider used to be a single entity until they split sometime in 2006. Since they cater more to getting people out of a group home and into single family settings, they are subjected to stricter guidelines. Although it is rewarding to see Saul grow as a person with a large circle of friends, a job, and a caring family setting, this isn't a job where you'll retire (or be able to afford a new maxi scoot) anytime soon. Second job, here I come! When you get a chance crowdog, PM me so I can tell you the full story. While I'm at it, here's some karma for ya!!!

Hello everybody. My name's Phil, I'm from the UK. I'm a single parent and have just started working as a Primary School Caretaker. For 18 years I worked for a local sheltered Housing Association (Charity Housing for less well-off pensioners). I did enjoy the work, but it was depressing to see your customers die regularly. Being around teachers and kids has cheered me right up! I've been well into the classic scooter scene, for a while now, running around with Vespa and Lambretta riding chaps, and am building a Vespa powered Bajaj sidecar outfit. I have a couple of Chinese scooters and little Yam 50 Slider,as in my Avatar.

LOL isn't that true, I couldn't tell you how much my cousin has bitched about her husband always being gone. Although It's better now because he got Master Chief this summer. Master Chief's are like Master Sgts. we make all those higher up look good, don't ever get a chief or a M/sgt mad at you they sure can make life miserable...

I plan to review this massive threa but thought that as a new Scooter Dawg I'd post here.
I've been commercial fishing since 1977. Every off season I try to come up with a better plan. So far 0 for 30. On the hard days I just remind myself that it's a paid vacation...

Nothing exotic, I am a senior software engineer (computer programmer). I wound up in electronics after getting out of the USMC many years ago, one day while fixing PC's and doing network administration work, I noticed the programmers only had to sit there and program all day. So I worked my way into that profession and have been doing it ever since.

Hi everyone,
I am a new member (wife of ketchikankid) and this is my first post. I have a very boring job-medical claim processor for an insurance company in Oregon. In my prior life I was a Reservations Manager in several hotels & a resort. All the more reason to need a scooter-which hopefully my wonderful husband will get me soon. I was impressed by this forum-everyone seems so nice & fun that I couldn't wait to join. I enjoy reading the opinions & information that you all share here.

I service and install all sizes of home and comercial emergency standby generators (you know the buildings that have lights on when yours is out) I've been doing it for a year. It's a very challenging job almost never a boring day. It required me to completely learn about all types of power generation, switch gear, diesel and gasous engines( electronics was the hard part) in a short period of time. I'm glad I came across it. I love when I have to tear down these motors for rebuilding.

Lol I'm probably the youngest of all of you and probably the lowest paying job of all. I'm 24year old male from PR(Puerto Rico) and I work at Chuck E. Cheese. I wont stay forever working here tho, I'll find a better job after I finish with computer programming class and PC repair. And yes I'm sort of like a newb, I've bought(used one) my first scooter/bike recently so I dont really know much about vehicle stuff, but I'm interested to learn it. See ya.
P.S. If anyone's interested my name is Jason.

hahaha, actually, I think I am the youngest! I am only 18 years old (recently turned as well). I work at Chevy's Fresh mex restaurant currently and I am a senior in High School. It is a pretty fun job and I get to meet and see plenty of people. I currently reside in California but am originally from Brazil. ( I moved to the U.S when I was 10).
I'm looking to get my first scooter within the next few months and I appreciate all of the help I can get from you guys to choose one!

I'm the Plant Manager of a construction company in Trinidad; we provide foundation solutions - meaning we drive all kinds of foundation piles (mainly pre-stressed concrete piles – which we make). Furthermore, we got into ACIP (Auger Cast In Place) Piling last year, which makes us the first Caribbean Contractor to provide such a service.
We also refurbish and maintain the oil and gas platforms offshore, a big part of which is two (2) 40000 PSI, UHP (Ultra High Pressure) Water Blasters for corrosion and coatings removal.
I'm heavily involved into research and development; employing new technologies and training; equipment set up and trouble shooting; searching out the most cost effective parts and supplies world wide (mainly in the US - meaning I'm glued to the computer a lot).
Originally I'm from Germany, but immigrated with my family at the age of 16 to Ontario Canada, where I've lived until 6 years ago (my family is still there). I'm not so fond of the winter season and when I got the opportunity I moved down here.
By my lengthy post you can tell that I'm really excited about my job. I have been there since the beginning for many ventures and have been able to grow into the position over the last 5 years (started out as the sort of first mechanic). The money I earn is nothing compared to what I might earn in Canada or the US, but it's great for down here. Most of all I've never had a dull moment and never had a regret to get up in the morning to go to work and …… no winters (riding weather all year around).
After having owned many motorcycles in the past, I purchased a Lifan Dual Sport last year (my first bike in seven years). Since then my wife got her bike license and as mentioned in previous post, with the help of this forum we decided on a Bandit XC-150z scooter for her. I have never owned a scooter before, but with all that has been happening I’m now looking to get my first scooter (250cc), my wife and I are looking forward to making some day trips together and a scooter vacation sometime in the near future on our sister island of Tobago. I will be celebrating the 16th anniversary of my 25th birthday this August.
As I'm still new to this forum and the whole concept in general, I'm still learning the ropes. I have thoroughly enjoyed this forum and all the posts; it has been very entertaining and informative but never rude or discourteous. I would like to thank everybody and please keep up the good work.

Troy welcome. I used to be a full time trucker and now do it part time. Tough business man. I hope it gets better for you soon. Do you drive a Road Train? Always thought that would be cool. I currently own half a 1980 Peterbilt 359 Extended Hood with a 3408 Cat and a 15 spd. We want to make it into a show truck... probably never happen. What's your truck? Anyway keep the shiny side up and your Roo Bars polished.

I am a physical therapist for the past 24 years and I manage an oupatient clinic for a rehabiliation facility, plus seeing a full case load. Most times makes for a long work day. I enjoy getting on my scooter at the end of the day and taking that 4 mile ride home.
I originally graduated with my Master's Degree in Audiology and I worked with the hearing impaired in the public schools in Iowa. I had to cover three counties and drove my '62 Studebaker Lark that I had restored. Poor baby, it just couldn't take the milage and it go to the point where repairs were too frequent and parts hard to hard to come by. I also restored a '62 Studebaker GT Hawk. It was just about complete when it was stolen and damaged. Still, I was able to sell it for a profit. Still love those Studebakers. My Dad was into them big time and had all the neon signs hanging in the garage and he must have restored at least a dozen of them. At 16 years old, I wanted my first car so I bought a '63 Ford Fairlane 2-dr HT with a Hurst 4-speed on the floor, wrecked for $215 and with my Dad's help, put it together and drove it around for a few years. Been trying to keep 5 cars (kids) and scooter going ever since. This forum is a great resource for scooter information. Thanks for being here.

Hey Troy, welcome. I used to be a trucker as well, have been to every US State (except Alaska and Hawaii) and across the Trans Canada Highway from one end to the other, until finally moving to the Caribbean. Now I look after all the equipment in a construction company and haul one of our cranes to our job site once in a blue moon. You maybe familiar, we have a couple of RHD (Right Hand Drive) Trucks out of the UK, Foden Model S106T Trucks, one with 120 Ton (264000 lbs) and the other with 150 Ton (330000 lbs) GTW (Gross Towing Weight). I've always been curious what sort of GTW the Australian Road Trains have, they come with some big engines, 650 hp or more. Next on the agenda for me is; Australia on a Scooter or bust. LOL I would certainly look forward to your feedback on the 170cc big bore upgrade. I'm new to scooters myself, but have been searching around many things related to scooters. The following eBay link is a GY6 Parts supplier out of Taiwan (a lot closer to your part of the world). His name is Carlos and I've read some good feedback about him outside of eBay, mainly from European Customers. Don't have any experience with him myself though. motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZautotech355Andi

After years of flight instructing and charter work, I went to work for a "commuter" airline. 20 years later, I'm still there. BTW my airline is having trouble finding qualified pilots to work for crap wages. I can't imagine why ;-)

Waves, "Well, good to see this place only got stronger while I was gone. Some might remember me, many probably not, and all should fear me.... really. Seriously though, these days I'm driving a cab, just switched companies, and need my own transportation to work, and thankfully my scooter never sold, though it did need some work after sitting since Oct."

New here too. 52 years old. Have lived here off and on since 1964. Also lived in SoCal (LA, Hawthorne, Long Beach), and Oklahoma City.
I too have had several lives. Did 20 years as a stagehand and television technician both here and in SoCal. Specialties were stage electrics, sound, film & video projection. Also did a little lighting design and directing. On the TV side I started as a cameraman and went into video engineering, shading cameras, and ended up technical directing or being an EIC.
Also worked for about six years in SoCal aerospace as a spacecraft controller, customer support engineer, and software engineer for several Hughes-owned or related companies.
Those two fields paid for college and flight training. I was an active pilot for 17 years, mostly just for myself, but I did do about three years as an air taxi pilot, mostly flying tours of the Grand Canyon. Also flew charters, air ambulance runs, and prisoner transfers. Favorite airplane flown was the Twin Otter. Pilot career got derailed in the early '90s and I too got tired of passing up many good job offers in order to stay in the I-wanna-be-a-pilot game for the above-mentioned lousy wages. Have an ATP and haven't used it since '95, but now I'm thinking about getting active again. Have about 2100 hours total time.
Also taught part-time at the local community college for a couple of years, in aviation and Japanese language. Still tutor first-year Japanese language students. Also still do occasional on-call movie theater work, inspecting and rating theaters for Dolby Cinema Monitoring Inc.
My full-time gig nowadays is aircraft maintenance planner for Allegiant Air. I get to keep track of the maintenance on 28 MD-83s and -87s.
The scooter has been a blast. Very addicting. There's several of us that ride scooters to work. The airport is very cool about scooters too - free parking decals, separate parking entrance just for 2-wheelers, and shaded parking right in front on the ground floor of the main terminal parking structure. Parking at the maintenance facility is even easier - just right in front. Love it!
