Hello, and welcome. This board is open to all, just keep it clean and polite and remember, it's all about the ride. If and when you register, it would be good to include the model(s) you ride in your signature. Lee www.scootdawg.com

I could hardly wait to get home from work to activate my account. First of all, the wheelie video kind of says, "you will join; you will join; you will join!" Here's to being on the ground floor of a great scooter place.

Thank you for your kind words, everybody. The main site has enjoyed phenomenal traffic. I just hope this forum grows to reflect that and becomes a place where good information, fun and friendship abound. I'm glad to finally have this going because when I first launched scootdawg, my goal was to have it be a clubhouse for scooter geeks. The fact that it gets so much traffic has resulted in all sorts of behind the scene communication with folks that would otherwise be innaccsessable. For instance, United Motors has agreed to an interview, which should be very informative. And, I've got meet-ups planned with all sorts of dealers, importers, etc. at the show this weekend.
Scoot happy!

Let it be known, that Sting, I, have brought a scooter to work today. In Michigan. So that all can see that we are a hardy bunch.

I am in favor of exaust #1. It looks cool even if it does nothing.

Yes, it does look cool. I will say that the MRP pipe is by far the best build quality, but all three of them look nice. Lee I am in favor of exaust #1. It looks cool even if it does nothing.

I believe this link (http://www.scooterbbs.com/board/DCForumID11/4880.html) to a thread on "scooterbbs" discusses that style exhaust. IIRC, it is adapted from a 2 cycle exhaust with expansion chamber technology. Four cycle engines don't benefit from expansion chambers but the style looked "neat" to some so one was adapted for the 4 cycle engine. scooterollie

Thanks for that link. To see what Alan Leson from Strada says, this is the link. www.scootdawg.com/page15Also, speaking with him in person at the show, he told me, "it works". I'm anxious to slap it on the Matrix. Lee

So, we can talk about anything here, hmm. Then I can't let this go unsaid any longer. Yes, I have a Lambretta, a Vespa: both aged vehicles, (the h is silent), some other of what's called motorcycles. But being a scooter site, the interest here is scooters. I doubt that even with the mighty and mighty expensive Brough-Superior anybody is going to be able to duplicate the Dawg's wheelie video. But the point I'm going to make is that I think, and I'm sure in my mind, that what has to be the greatest scooter. It's ushered more kids into scootering, been accepted by their parents, neighbors etc because it is user friendly and was cheap. Is the Honda Spree.

No doubt, Sting, the Spree is a tradition. All things on two wheels are fair game here. Vespa rules the road in my book. My girlfriend has an ET4 and it's a great machine. And remember, when you pass a fellow two wheeler on the road, give 'em "the wave". Here in KC, the wave is down low. How goes it in other places?

Hitting mid 60's here today and my girl and I are going to ride. We'll find a road less traveled and leave the rat race behind. Been doing too much tinkering and not enough riding! Should be a lot of bikes out today so I expect to wear out the left arm with down low waves.

In the late 60's and early 70's it was probably embarrassing to wave to anything less than "what you drove". And forbid that you should accidentally wave to a Harley, whew. The Harley wave was intimidating anyways, (the power fist shoved into the air). I sometimes still give the peace sign. It's a good one.

I find that most of the Harley guys will give the wave to the lowly scooter more than some of the others. I think they are amused with scooters. Sometimes at a large enough event, I see a scooter that's called the, Ner-A-Car. Probably made for a half dozen years in the 50's. Literally it means something like, "near a car". There is a floorboard that is a little longer than usual, and the cylinder sticks up in the middle of it. It's odd. You will see one someday.

The transmission works like those on Snapper lawnmowers. There is a lot of stuff on the web about them. The one pictured is a 1924 model.

Not failiar with Snapper transmissions. Dang, I have trouble enough learning the CVT. Power is transmitted through the contact of 2 rollers, the driven roller can be moved across the radius of the drive roller, to change ratio. It can even provide reverse. It looks like Neracar used the flywheel for the drive roller.

That is great information. What a collectable scooter. I decided today, about what the difference is between scooter people and motorcycle people. One group has a visible engine and the related mechanical parts. The other group is comfy with that stuff covered. Not hidden, but covered.

In general, that is true. But there are a few scooter models out there with all exposed, like the Ruckus. I think it's the floorboard that makes a scooter.
