Being less than mechanical, I'm a little lost about customizing my Aprilia Sportcity cube 250. For starters, I'd like to add an aftermarket multi-function display such as the ScanGauge II. It's designed for cars, but says that it works on any vehicle by plugging into the OBDII. How do I determine if this will work on my scoot? Also looking for large capacity storage, and I really must have soem onboard music. Where does one start?

I can't speak for all scooters but most if not All chinese scoots don't have a port to plug in a scan tool. Sure would be nice.

If you want music while riding get a Bluetooth kit installed in your helmet, I'm pretty sure there are stereo ones out there for just such a purpose.
For storage, if your scooter has a rear rack perhaps get a top box and some side cases.

That would be awesome if they had an ECM interface for the fuel injected scooters... I would doubt they use an OBD-II system, but they may have something. An OBD-II connector looks like this... have a look around, you never know...!

Also you should be able to find a trunk for it if thats what you are looking for. They make tiny 30watt amps you can get that will hook into a portable audio player, and I'm sure they have waterproof speakers you can use too.

The Sport City will probably use the Piaggio Navigator computer however that is an extremely expensive piece of hardware and not OBDII complient as far as I understand.
Barney's of St Pete got me the 35L top case for less than most on-line vendors and it was nice to be at a counter dealing with a person when I picked it up giving me the opportunity to reject it and walk away. I kept it with no regrets. Got the handlebar antivibration weights while I was at it.
There are some replacement mirror heads with built-in speakers and an FM Radio that works well with the Aprila Sport City. Some will Blue Tooth to an MP3 player also. I went with a BIM (Bluetooth/Intercom/Radio) headset the fit into my full face modular helmet instead. Most of my riding is over 45 mph anyway at which point the wind noise make radios with speakers moot. You can look for both of them at Amazon or Buy.com.
Super Bike Toy Store in Stuart Florida can set you up with a Puig Sport Fairing for the Sport City and it will make riding the Interstates much nicer.
More important on a bike like the Sport City is adequate safety gear. Leather Up has a decent mesh armored jacket call the Silver Ignitor and works out well in Florida weather.
You may also want to stop buy Cycle Gear in St Pete on Rte 19 to check out their Sedici Armored gloves. They carry a lifetime warranty so they can be the last pair you will every have to pay for. Their Bilt modular helmets are regularly on sale for less than $100 and have decent ventilation along with metal latches for the chin guard making them a pretty good value.
If you enjoy your Sport City half as much as I do you will be doing better than most. I ride mine to work every day and will not hesitate to run over to Orlando, Kissimmee, St Augustine, Whachulla or even out of state.

Thanks for taking the time for your thoughtful reply. I love my scoot; first one and I've ridden it all over Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee and Sarasota counties. Rides beautifully, and lots of fun.
I bought it at Barney's so, that's probably where I'll go for accessories, too. really curious about that OBDII, though.
Ride Happy!

sometimes the guy your rude to, and you think is an a-hole, actually knows, and has the info you want. despite this i will help you. buti know your scooter aint chinese, but with your level of skill it is probably a good idea that its not, and yes i am an a hole, or at least a tiny bit abrasive.
trail tech makes a nice gauge cluster that would house just about everything you want except music, they have multi display with speed, gps, oil, etc., personally if the scan guage fit with an adapter and you could make it fit and the trailtech are both pretty easy to rip off your bike in 15 sec. so i would go another route.
no odb ii on bikes, many motorcycles have a port for a special cable so the dealership or a shop can read them if needed but theres no standard cable for bikes. manufacturers use whatever they want. a few japanese bikes match but no standard that requires a single plug for the rest like cars, some still use obd i on bikes because the system isnt that complex.

cscawthon - I can chime in for the storage and music. I just upgraded my topcase from eBay. Look up "Scooter Topcase" and you will find a bunch of trunks designed for motorcyles and scooters. Most are very small and can barely fit a helmet. However, there are two models that are currently very large and can hold two helments nicely. Here is the one I just bought and it is a very nice trunk for the price. It really does hold two helmets or in my case, 1 helmet and my 3/4 length riding jacket. I can now leave my gears on my scooter and not have to drag it into a store or resturant. www.ebay.com/itm/X-LARGE-BLACK-MOTORCYCLE-SCOOTER-TOURING-TRUNK-TOP-CASE-BRACKET-TO-FIT-2-HELMETS-/150897560651?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2322320c4b&vxp=mtrMost of these trunks seems to run around $60-$70 including shipping. As for the music, I bought a Scala Bluetooth headset that attaches to my helmet and it comes with a microphone and two speakers that you position next to your ears inside the helmet. The unit has a built in FM Radio so you can listen to the radio in stereo while riding and the volume adjusts automatically when noise increases around you. If you have a cell phone with bluethooth, you can sync it with this unit and make and answer calls while riding. It works really well. This method saves you the trouble of trying to add all the hardware necessary to listen to your music via amp and speakers. Since this has a radio, I even have a FM Transmitter with a built in MP3 player and I can stick a 4gb card in it and it will just play the songs on it and broadcast it to the frequency that I set it to and my helmet picks up the FM signal and I have my own music being pumped into my helmet. This method is nice and simple and clean since you are not installing any wires anywhere. I hope this gives you some other alternatives to your music requirements on your scooter. Best of luck in finding a solution that works for you.

The beauty of the Sport City is that the bikes luggage rack is designed to work with the Givi mount system. It is very nice to without any real fuss, drilling or adapter plates attach just the small latch included when you buy the bike (if the dealer didn't include it with the bike go back and tell them you realized it was missing and kindly press them for a free replacement) so that when the Aprilia or matching Giving top case arrives you just can just snap it on and go. With the same lock that opens the lid you just flip the bottom button on the latch so you can take it with you.
The Aprilia 35L Top Case fits my full face XXL sized helmet along with my CE3 Amored Jacket and Carbon Fiber Gloves. It also can hold a surprising amount of groceries.
You can upgrade easily and even get a larger case to snap on for when you need it and use the 35L for every day.
As for leaving you stuff out on the bike, well in Tampa Bay most of the year you will probably prefer your gear to be stored in an air conditioned space to make the ride on our 100+ degree roadways more tolerable. It is pretty lousey to ride here when your gear has been sitting out in the Florida Sun all day.
For the past few years I haave riden about 350 to 360 days a year here commuting in Florida so I have a good idea of what it is like compared to other parts of the country such as Northern New England where I grew up.
ODBII for a Scan Gauge is probably not going to happen unless someone makes a Piaggio Navigator Port to OBDII adapter. I have been looking as I do own a Scan Gauge that I use on my other vehicles. Some have tried making up a Molex Cable to adapt the Navigator port on an Aprilia bike to use ODBII software loaded on a laptop using custom Windows drivers but it is a lot of work and only good for diagnostics in the garage.
With the info already provided on the dash and a GPS/Cell Phone what other functionality are you looking for?
You may find that there is already an Android cell phone application that would provide much which combined with the dash readings would probably be everything the Scan Gauge gives except for the Tach functions and MPG.
