Nice project. But $800 is so much money for 59mph. I own a 2004 Vento r4i that have a gy6 150cc internally stock engine(stock head, piston, sleeve and crankshaft) and it run 61 mph on level surface! Puerto Rico is the home of world fastest gy6 engines running 90+mph send me an e mail and learn how. peace brothers!

Hi, New guy here with a 157QMJ CY6 150cc(149.6) Trike. I noticed that before the upgrade that just with a new belt and 10gram rollers you were up to 54mph. And after the upgrade you picked up 5 more mph is that correct. I would like to just be able to get to around 54 mph and have some breathing room cause around here most streets are 35-45 but if its 45 they are doing 50 if 50 they are doing 55. So I just want to be able to keep up with the traffic. Would changing the belt and rollers get some top end? And what does a different belt do that a stock belt won't? Thanks Al

all the top end improvements are great but what about gearing changes? Just to go 4 mph faster doesn't make sense unless you make your gearing higher. I know you'll have more acceleration and rpms. Plans to upgrade gearing?

I'VE HAD MY GY6 FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS THE FIRST YEAR I PUT AROUND 4000 MILES ON IT.LAST YEAR I NOTICED A TINK THEN THAT GREW INTO A KNOCK. SO I PARKED THE BIKE FOR A YEAR.THIS YEAR AFTER SPENDING HOURS ON YOUTUBE AN READIND DIFFERENT FORMS LEARNING MY PARTS AN ALL. I CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF A BIG BORE KIT.WELL I STOPPED BY THE LOCAL SCOOTER STORE LEARNED A FEW THINGS CAME HOME AN BROKE DOWN MY ENGINE. I LEARN MY ROD AND CAME LOOSE OF THE CRANKSHAFT JUST SO HAPPEN THE GUY AT THE SCOOTER STORE HAD A NEW 2MM NCY CRANKSHAFT SO THEY DROPPED IT IN. I PUT A NEW CLUTCH AND BELT. AFTER THEY PUT IT BACK TOGETHER IT STILL HAD A KNOCK,WE BROKE IT BACK DOWNADD TWO MORE GASKETS.NOW THE KNOCK IS GONE SOUNDS GO BUT. ON TAKE OFF ITS SUPER SLOW STALLS OUT AT A STAND STILL ON THE KICK STAND DOES WELL.IF SOME YOU MAKE IT PASSED THE STALL AN GET TO TOP END RUN'S NICE. I NEED TO NO WHAT ELSE I NEED TO DO ALONG WITH THIS CRANK, MAYBE SOME JETS,INTAKE,CARB,I HAVE SOME NCY 10 GRAM ROLLERS BUT HAVE NOT PUT THEM IN YET.I NO ENUFF NOT TO GO BACK TO THE SHOP JUST NEED TI NO WHAT ELSE I NEED TO ADD

>>ere did you get the oil catch can?
Just stick a fuel filter on the end and zip tie it to the frame...it may collect some water, so you need to drain it every so often...

great post!... i'm getting all this done on my scoot as we speak, i brought it into monster gy6 for them to work on, now i can better understand what all he has to do, i got a 59 mm bore, 4 valve performance head, 30 mm carb, new air intake manifold, air fliter, no restriction CDI, Iridium spark plug, ignition coil, no restriction header pipe, only thing i didn't do is slider weights on the variator, i'm still a little lost on what i should do about the variator the whole weight displacement isn't really a performance upgrade, just a performance modification, higher top end speed or higher acceleration? i dont really know if swapping them out is worth the trial and error to see what gram weight suits me best, anyone know of a thread that has more information on slider weights

First, find out what it does with all the mods from monster, the you can tune the CVT to match the power from the upgrades. You may just need taller tranny gears which is a cheap way to get a lot of mph top end speed to match up with the extra power you now will have. Lefty

great thread and great pics I have a 125cc Qingqi. I've ordered 175cc high comp cylinder and a head with bigger valves. To start with I'm gonna run this with the standard carb, but I assume that I need to change the jet. What size do you suggest? I think that the standard have 110 jet. I'm thinking of putting in a 125. I've never worked with scooters before, but I'm pretty handy guy and have worked alot on cars... no carbs though. Should I only change the main jet or should I change the pilot too? I'm also thinking of removing the airbox and putting in a open one.

Jetting is trial and error.. I would start at #115. You should buy a range of jets...
No don't change the idle jet.. waste of time...you will probably have to buy a high output starter motor and I would change the piston as well

59 top speed? hmmm i wonder why its that low for a 170cc, my 150cc pegasus can top out at about 65mph on level and cruise around 50-56, ive even had it up to 72 on a downhill (wot) run.

Sin said 117kph which comes out about 73mph and he said there was more there but it was a brand new build. You might also consider 2 wheel that you have a watercooled scooter with higher compression ratio than a stock china gy6 and a bigger variator stock than a plain jane gy6. Sin said he did work for the suppliers. He probably got a sweet deal on his parts. 59 to 73 is quite an upgrade. It's a great thread and I have re read it 3 or 4 times.

You think I'll get issue starting it up with the standard starter motor?

Just wanted to let every body know after I read this post I was all revd up to do this pretty big upgrade, but mine was not as easy. The bottom of the cylinder sleeve would not fit in the crank case, so we grinded out by hand and carefuly covered everything up before we ground, aside from that the info was very helpful, and as far as the cost or spending so many $$ just to go a few mph faster it was worth every dime, I have the fastest scoot in my area, I also ordred a small turbo charger, that is the next project my turbo gets here Wendsday I will post some pics when I start that project

so do all 150cc engines round up to 150cc and not require machining for this upgrade because i bought a 170cc kit and dont want to put it in if it does

so do all 150cc engines round up to 150cc and not require machining for this upgrade because i bought a 170cc kit and dont want to put it in if it does I hinted towards this in your other thread, and I will reiterate my point a little more clearly here. First off, don't measure your bore kit by "170cc kit" or "180cc kit" because most of those numbers are fudged. Find the actual measurement of the kit. 59mm, 60mm, 61mm, ect. The largest a stock engine will take in most cases is ~59mm, not much bigger than stock. HOWEVER, ncy and possibly some other brands make a 61mm kit that will fit in your stock engine as a bolt on. You should do more research before doing as much work as you are trying to do. Jumping in blind is a good way to do something wrong, and wrong tends to kill these things. Best of luck to you.
