Awesome mods Sin, was looking at ebay for the digital dash myself, nice writeup on the install!
73mph, that is the fastest I know of anyone traveling on a gy6 based scoot. I think I am going to need some frame mods to stiffen the chassis flex even more + some new tires before I go into 70's territory. That takes some balls!

Hey Great thread, I have a Sun L 150 cc scoot that has the same body and engine as yours but in Yellow and gray I MUST SAY though you have done a great job keeping your scoot in SHOW CONDITION !!!! it looks great ! DID you do the stickers or were they factory? I have a question for you and or anyone else who can answer it ! I neep to pull my fly wheel I bought the PIT POSSE 6 in 1 flywheel puller seen here www.pitposse.com/6in1crtyflpu.htmland it doesn't come with ANY instructions I KNOW I AM AN IDIOT but really somebody explain how this thing works I did what I thought I should and the thing won't budge!

Sin I've gotta ask you roughly what do you think the parts you had to get for this project weighed? I ask because I have a busted scooter on St. John that I am thinking about doing this same thing to but all the parts would be coming with my in my suitcase when I return next year. Also if you could give me an idea of what special if not annoying tools you needed for this as well because if I needed them I would have to bring them too. Pretty standard if not limited tools here in the shop I'd be using here in the Virgin Islands.

Just for the record I've gone about 75 on a stock Baron gy6 (for about 3 seconds going down a hill). Not recommended but it can be done.

i have a question the racing came is not special for this 4 valves head isn't it ?

Post by anthonyvs on Jun 3, 2008 14:06:32 GMT -5
swakk
The camshaft for this head is special. I have a picture of mine somewhere. its actually shorter then the 2 valve head version. you wouldn't be able to use a a9 camshaft or any of the 2 valve head cams on this. So far I have been haveing issues with oil leaks on my head. oil is leaking out of the cooling chamber. They have an oring that comes with the kit that fits on 1 of the bottom studs to seal the leak but it doesnt work. I had some success with epoxy but it doesnt last long. wondered if sin was haveing these issues as well.

Sorry for the delayed replies, been busier than a 1 legged man at a butt kickin contest... I got 1 question. I read you used 10g rollerweights in your bike. with the Eurosporty being a lighterweight setup, do you think a set of 12g rollers would yield the same results? I did similar mods to an Ozooma Flyer 125 (lightweight) and went with 11gram rollers - that seemed to be it's sweet spot. I think it's just a matter of a bit of trial & error. One other question, how has the reliability been since doing all this stuff? You always hear a modified scooter is like back surgery, it's never really right ever again... I was wondering If you had a lotta repeat issues with stuff since cracking it all open? I've put another 1000k's on the Maxx and it hasn't skipped a beat. Recent oil change yielded very little debris in the filter 73mph, that is the fastest I know of anyone traveling on a gy6 based scoot. I think I am going to need some frame mods to stiffen the chassis flex even more + some new tires before I go into 70's territory. That takes some balls! I'm embarrased to tell you what this thing hits on a steep downhill run DID you do the stickers or were they factory? Yes but only the side with the Japanese chromed letters. I think it says "Chinese Scooters are Better" but I could be wrong. The fairings I got from Ozooma, a leftover from their original sample scooters, the "VR" in the stickers stand for "VonRoad" which is another marketting name the factory uses like "Yiben" Sin I've gotta ask you roughly what do you think the parts you had to get for this project weighed? ... Also if you could give me an idea of what special if not annoying tools you needed... My guess is the 4V Head, Big Bore, 30mm Carby & Carbon Fiber Exhaust would be hard pressed to hit 10kg's Probably the most valuable tool amongst it all is the Air compressor & rattle gun with 24mm socket for the rear axle & adapters to use it with my standard socket set. and finally... What a fantastic thread. This one goes into the Scootdawg Hall of Fame. You ain't goin' to find this kind of stuff on any other scooter forum. Thank you Sin. I'm really flattered, thanks Lee - this is one of the best forums I've ever been on - it's the people involved that makes it so good!

How do I find out if my engine is a GY6?
|
|
|
Post by rerun2 on Jun 25, 2008 21:43:18 GMT -5
Turnouts,
It IS a GY6, there are only a very few 150cc bike that do not have a GY6 design engine, Vespa and other Piaggio built bikes, Kymco MIGHT use a different design, and maybe a few more, but I would bet HUGE sums that the engine is like 98% of the 150cc engines, a GY6 design.

Unfortunately, the piston kit did not match the 4 valve head, the reliefs on the piston are for a 2 valve head.

I thought I cooked mine but it's something else thank goodness.must be an electrical problem for mine.ran out of oil and stopped running all at once. wildbill

great article, but leaves me with many questions
this is my dilema,
in November i bought a jonway Adventure 125cc gy6 clone,
the stock bike topped out at 110kmph, since nov 07 i have done 6,000km, but during this time the bikes performance dropped to around 90kmph top end ( bouncing off the rev limiter), the belt broke on my on tuesday so i replaced it. the rollers were nackered also but i dint have time to change them as i had to get back to work.
on replacing the belt for a new stock one my top speed has been completely recovered and i am now able to smash 110kmph again.
REMEMBER THIS BIKE IS STOCK!
would like to spend 80bucks and pop the 150cc cylinder head on + new air filter and CDI, new teflon variator and performance clutch, Is this all worth it?
th best i could hope is for greater speed takoff and acceleration.
any comment very appreciated. (thinking air and exhaust but 80bucks for the 150 upgrade will give me more than 31% extra power, appose to like 250 bucks for 10% witha new exhaust.
thanks

gfasal, I'd go all the way and get the 170cc kit. Then theres no question in the back of your mind as to how much more is left if only you went one more size higher...

Maybe am going to be alittle critical here, but my 150cc factory nothing done to it mazes out at 61mph. Is it worth the trouble to upgrade a 150cc why not just buy a 200cc or 250cc??

This is perfection too me. I am very interested in cloning this upgrade, to my clone 1P57QMJ gy6, on my clone of a big ruckus. I'm new pup and I'm not sure if I will get a response in a Sticky or if I should start a new thread. Would love to make the rebuild a running winter post complete with daily updates and pixs open for all to give imput. By the way I have wanted the 170cc upgrade b/c I do not drive my personal cars fast unless I have too, and I drive class A vehicles for my job. In NY I need to be able to cruise at 55 ~ 60 mph and have a little more to get out of trouble if needed. Now I top out at 55mph and I cruise at 45mph, Not safe on our crowded raceways. (I've been avoiding them like the plague). So if anyone especially mhan and Great Big Dog کíŋ has the time to mentor a newb we can get this thing project started.

Anyone interested in a gear set? I ordered one just like in this thread, but it does not fit my rx150i Strada. different gearbox. It's yours for the asking. PM me and I will send it to you, providing that you update the pound with your results.

Tiger, You may have better luck starting a new thread on this. If it was me spending my money, here's what I'd do on your Scoot: 1. 170cc big bore kit complete with big bore 2 valve head, and A11 or A12 cam I would avoid the 4 valve head, a lot of extra work and cost for an incremental gain over the 2V big bore head. I'm also not wild about putting a 4 valve head on big bore kit with a 2 valve piston. Sin's worked (even though he didn't do a trial assembly with clay on the piston to check and VERIFY adequate piston to valve clearance); you might not be so lucky. 2. 30mm CV carb with aluminum intake and Uni air filter 3. Offset key to provide more ignition advance 4. Bando high performance coil and plug wire 5. No rev limit CDI 6. MRP or V8 aftermarket exhaust This combination should run like stink and still be "relatively" affordable. The aftermarket exhaust is the single most expensive component but is key to making the big bore kit with cam & large carb work. YMMV, Mitch This is perfection too me. I am very interested in cloning this upgrade, to my clone 1P57QMJ gy6, on my clone of a big ruckus. I'm new pup and I'm not sure if I will get a response in a Sticky or if I should start a new thread. OIL CATCH CANAfter re-installing a new Exhaust Gasket, Exhaust Pipe, Plastic Engine Covers & Carby, it was time to address where the head cover oil vent would lead to, especially now that the I eliminated the Air Box that the original Head cover was vented to. Introducing my new Oil Catch Can, with it's poor English stickers proclaiming "High Accelerative" amongst it's many attributes ;D Attached by Cable Ties to the frame where the Air Box once was, the Head vents to the Oil Catch Can's base via 1/4" fuel hose. From there, the Oil Catch Can has an overflow hose that I cable tied to hang below the bottom fairing in front of the engine bay. A 3rd hose runs from the Catch Can and replaces the Dip Stick so that it can return oil vapour back to the Sump. The whole unit fits nicely behind the front plastic fairing near the riders feet and can be accessed when the seat is raised. Anyone know where i can get one of these oil catch cans and all the associated bolts pipe and fittings??
