Well there have been a couple of changes in the base gasket configuration. I will post soon on this, looks like I will have Saturday off and im planning on finial assembly and starting her up.. I believe i have all the bugs worked out.. I will say Hoca did a great piece of engineering, really what I found is no extra spacers or base gaskets are needed. It's designed with a standard bbk kit in mind. That's straight from Hoca.. Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed.. Saturday I plan on having "Fawkes" running ;D ;D ;D and I can't wait to hear what it sounds like ;D ;D ;D

Well didn't get Fawkes started today, but I did get him competely assembled and ready to go into the scooter tomorrow... Here is what i did.. For those that have never seen the inside of a 139qmb I hope you find this interesting even if your not a mechanic... Inside my 139qmb.. Used blue rtv sealant in addition to the gaskets, Oil leaks are very serious as these little engines depend on oil for cooling and lubrication and yet hold so very little... Staggered the piston rings... she is showing good compression.. Changed Tranny gears.. Welcome the new Fawkes

Darn ! Darn ! Darn.... Got Fawkes all together, tryied to start him and nothing, after some investigating i discovered I had no spark... seems I damaged the stator when I was trying to get the flywheel off... I'm totally kicking my self because I saw the damage and should have just replaced it then, but no I figured it would probably be ok... And it was not..
I'm just kicking myself for my stupidity. Did all the proper checks and it is the stator... Darn Darn Darn.. Another week to wait....
I will also note that kicking Fawkes over, the engine feels more like a motorcycle than a scooter.. Good compression..

Good luck on getting that fixed, then up and running. I am in a similar process with a 2T engine and can't decide if a 45mm crank will work or if 42mm is the way to go....... thinking I can put a 45 in because the case is already built for a 90 just need to double check port timings. Here is a good calculator to detrmine true cc's in addition to the 49ccscoot chart posted earlier, bottom of this page; www.scooterhelp.com/tuning/defs.ccs.html

Staggered the piston rings... she is showing good compression.. Great pics and I like this thread. One Tip, Never put the ring gap over the wrist pin. The gaps should always go over the piston skirt staggered 180o. Oil rings dont really matter but I stagger those as well.

Larry,
I thought you were coming to get a stator on Thursday, what happened? Come and get it so you can get the Scooter running. Don't worry about the money, I will donate a stator just so you can get your Scooter back on the road. What else do you need? Just Git-R-Done!!!

I em truly humbled by the generosity offered, truly I em... John I got sick with a stomach flu last week, the rest of my family had it a week before, I thought I had dodged the bullet on that one, but I got it a week later and was off two days from work, the loss of overtime hurt. Yet i still had to pay my responsibility's so it did change our Thanksgiving plans... I apologize sincerely for not making it up to Fort Wayne... Dude your right it is killing me being so close, and I know many here are wanting to hear the of the results.. The stator is really the only thing I need, it's a 5 wire type 2, 8 pole..
Again thank you all for your kindness, it's truly great having friends like this...

Hi John, yea i can't wait either.. Did some fine tuning today on it.. Sounding really good.. Took it out for a small run today after the fine tuning.. All I can say is wow... it plowed into a headwind like it was nothing... Have no idea how fast it is, but it buried the speedo really fast and i had plenty of throttle left about 1/2... I took some video of how it sounds now but it was really fuzzy, and I have to prepare for work now... I will say it has plenty of power... Will look into a helmet cam so better document it's performance... God was that fun today... Ohhh yea definitely need to tag it www.youtube.com/watch?v=

Have you ridden a 150? Can you compare the two?

Have you ridden a 150? Can you compare the two? Hi Greg, I can't compare to a 150.. God knows I've driven just about every thing else. 90 Yamaha in PI, 125 Motomorini, 550 Kawasaki, 750 Yamaha's, Harley's the list is nearly endless, but no 150 scooters, I have driven scooters with the 83cc bbk, and this is definitely stronger, It's even stronger and faster than the 90 cc Yamaha in PI. The best I can do is to record the performance I'm getting and allow those that have 150's judge for themselves.. The scooter club in Fort Wayne has a few 150's in it. But with winter so close i don't see them riding anymore this year.. Would have been fun to gauge the performance driving with them.. We did that when my scooter was a 72, I didn't win I was out matched, they didn't wait long for me at stoplights and intersections.. I will note some of that was by choice on their part, they could have walked away from me any time they wanted... Any way I'm still fine tuning it, yesterdays drive told me I need heaver weights yet in the variator, I changed so many things on this scooter all at once, some of it was a guess, came close with the weights, but need to go about a gram higher, before I will get all that torque to the rear wheel.. I'm Learning LOL I will say that Tao Tao 63cc that gave me such a run for my money when it was a 72 would not stand a chance now, I would walk away from it just as the 150's did me then.. It's really that profound a difference.. Got a nice growwwww to it now..

VERY VERY COOL!!!!!!! Glad shes a runner!!!!!!! A bit off topic but, did that exhaust used to be black? Looks alot like mine Anyway, I can't wait for the final torque verdict and, I wish you 20,000 trouble free miles of riding!!!! This just might be my winter project if I can raise up enough cash....... Keep up the good fight brother!!!!!!! Tell everyone it's stock then go for a ride, Hehehe... Hi Bong, don't worry about going off thread a little, my goodness I was expecting questions from this project, that's kinda the whole point of the project.. Answers lol The muffler I got from scrappy it's their Performance exhaust system. It came with a gold finish, i wanted the stainless steel one but it was out of stock so we substituted this for the stainless one.. I'm getting good performance from it so no complaints.... Yea Fawkes is built as a sleeper LOL, you can't tell it's not stock except when they see the muffler or when they hear it running, kinda hard to hide that ...... Ohhh well hehehehheh Hi Dude, To answer your question, No the starter alone won't start it.. I have to use the kick starter in combo with the electric starter.. It turns the engine over pretty fast, but not quite fast enough, and needs a little extra umph from the kick starter.. My 72 cc upgrade acted this way too when it was first breaking in. So ill give it some time and see.... If it continues Ill look into a a torque starter and a hotter coil, perhaps an iridium plug...

Just a quick update before work, Took Fawkes out for a speed run, had my brother follow me in his truck.. He swears i was making 65 mph, I was running about 7000 rpm still with throttle to go.. To be honest i backed off at that point, it was really really cold, guess i need to install my winter heating system again, and buy better winter riding gear lol..
Any way confirmed 65 mph so far..

That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

Hi John, and Dude.. Yea I agree 65 in the winter cold is crazy, and I definitely need to tag it, and install a led light for the tag John.. Since so much of the performance aspects of the stroker crank are unknown, all of this is a surprise to me too, I don't know anybody that had done this so I'm thinking I have the only one in Indiana at least for now..
I went to work yesterday after the speed run thinking the performance was very different, but couldn't quite put my finger on it until I was on the line working. I remembered the vibrations I used to get at around 45 to 50 mph before... And that didn't happen yesterday, also the vibration osculation I used to get around 30 mph and lasted until about 35 mph is gone as well... Maybe the reason I didn't get the vibrations at 45 to 50 may have had something to do with the temperature and the fork oil. cold oil moves more slowly... Perhaps that's it ?
I don't know if the crankshaft is just better balanced, if some of this is because of the Dr pulley sliders, colder temps, or a combination of all. I'm really not sure but it's very smooth. All aspects of take off and acceleration and engine behavior is very different. Over all I would say the scooters behavior is very nice, responsive, smooth, and predictable.. I expected Fawkes would be different, but this is really something I didn't expect. Especially the smoothness....
I would like to say also yesterdays test was just that, a performance test, I'm honestly not a speed crazy scooterist, On the contrary, I'm merely building a scooter that will tolerate the type of driving I'm doing here.. In my judgement Ladybug died because she was not strong enough to do the work I needed her to do... I over stressed her and she died...
Fawkes is much stronger, able to do the work needed, the results are a faster scooter, but speed was not my main objective. My main objective was a machine able to do the job I need...

Larry, Great job my friend sounds like you will have an awesome running scoot when you finish. I have been pretty lucky with my BBK so far. I hope it keeps running. I have 16,000 on it so far and I change the oil every 2000 miles with motouls synthetic. I know it is not spelled right but close.
Keeps us posted I can't wait to know how it runs.

Larry, just a thought, try a set of 7gr sliders I think you will find they will give you better performance than 6gr. It soundss awesome and you should be really proud of your build. You have done a great job with your build.
Also if you find your tires needing balanced try the "beads" we use them on all the scotters we have problems with vibration on tires.
again great job

Thanks Buildright, that means a lot coming from you.. I em very proud of it.. My major problem is in starting it, I'm pretty sure i will need a torque starter, hotter coil, and a iridium plug for it.. As i have to use the electric with the kick starter to get Fawkes going.. And when the temp drops below 30 Fawkes is really hard to get going...
Fawkes is still in it's break in and I'm being very careful about this. Probably more than I should be.. As for the sliders yea I agree 7 gram would probably be much better, but I can't imagine better performance it's plenty fast now LOL but yea ill look into that and a battery tender Jr.
Fawkes is not yet ready to take me to work, not until I get him starting easier below 30 degrees.. Kinda missing bluefonts comments on this... He maybe gone but not forgotten... Thanks again bill,
