Hi Troops, did you guys see the CVT air inlet and see that it is letting air in to the Pull Rope side and then pushs the air onto the Vairator. Do you think it would help cool the Variator and CLutch more if the blocked area was cut out? WHATA THINK? Alleyoop

Well Dawg's I've got to roll the engine & swing frame out from under AGAIN.. Yesterday I repaired the crack in the muffle where the factory mount bracket is attached, also made up a bushing for the muffler mounting bracket. Well the bushing must of melted & took the tension off the lock washer & the muffler ended up hanging at some point during my test run, & about 2 miles from home the exhaust got loud, at about 1 mile from home it got really loud, & at about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile from home muffler started dragging, got it home & shut it down.. Head pipe broke clean off the flange, OK so I weld it back on the flange, get it all back together again & try to start the BEAR up again, but no start or idle w/ out throttle, AGAIN.. So I'm going to have to pull head & investigate the condition of exhaust valve & seat this time...
The only thing that went good yesterday was the thread repair of the spark plug threads in the original head that I replaced a few weeks ago.. Drilled & Tapped it for a Denso - W22FSU - 14mm Spark Plug, that is if I can find this plug some where..

Dwild62, Just a thought, but why not just make a slit in the bracket and put muffler strap through it to hold the muffler this way you won't have to worry about the weld breaking again. Alleyoop

scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=23065Hey David I dont know your mount set up but if ya can make a bracket that will attach to the muffler and then get some type of rubber bushings with a center metal rod through them and then stick the bolts in it will isolate from the heat and allow the muffler to flex with the terrain! I know this is a PITA that's why I did mine like I did! Also if ya cut off ends and bushings on an old shock be careful as some have nitrogen in them! JRR

Yo Dawg's I'm back, but'll be in & out.. I loaded Windows 7 Pro on 2 of my 3 computers for $39.98, & yes they're legal, but they sure didn't make it easy, that's for sure, had 2 all nighters in the process, then I died for 12 hours, but still feel like I've been on a binge.. But anyhow, I'll be in & out, as I'm still working out the bugs..

Necessity (and poverty) is the mother of invention. Solved my mirror problem without going to risers. While digging around in my scooter spare parts bin I came across a left hand mirror with a 9 & 3/4" arm on it. Replaced the LH mirror which had a 6&1/2 arm and solved my problem. Now I can see what is going to hit me before it does. The short arm mirror goes to the spare part bin til I need it again. Saved a buck or two on that problem and the lumbar back rest solved the handle bar problem. So I will put the savings in my under-the-bed bank towards buying another scoot!! What an addictive hobby.

OK Dawg's Just an update here.. I finally ordered stainless Steal tubing & a Drag pipe silencer for my Custom Head Pipe & Drag Pipe today. Cost so far $78. Now that I have that part out of the way, I can roll the engine & swing frame out from under the BEAR & pull the head for examination, AGAIN..
Has any Dawg's tried the new Windows 7 yet? What do you think of it? I loaded Windows 7 on 2 laptops & I really like it...

OK here's an update.. I rolled the engine & swing frame out from under the BEAR this afternoon.. I pulled the head to examine the exhaust valve, & it was like I expected, exhaust valve was in pretty tough shape.. The exhaust valve seat was in good shape. I had a spare exhaust valve, so I lapped it in, the intake valve was in good shape, I did just a touch up w/ lapping compound on the intake valve.. Then I did a fluid test, & all seems good.. I also ported the intake, & when I get the Stainless Steel Head pipe & Drag pipe built I'll port the exhaust..

Alleyoop Well when I put this head on a few weeks ago, I didn't do a fluid test to make sure the valves were seated right, so the exhaust valve might not have been seating good, & that might be the reason for the exhaust valve tightening up here a couple of week ago, & then when the head pipe broke off the flange, that just made A poorly seated exhaust valve even worse.. Fortunately the exhaust valve seat didn't get hurt.. When I reset this exhaust valve a couple of week ago, I had a bad feeling as to it tightening up in the first place, & figured I might end up pulling the head in the end any ways.. But I know the head pipe breaking didn't help matters none.. Fortunately it not a bad job rolling the engine & swing frame out from under trike, takes about 30 minutes - an hour to get it out.. If you have to do engine work on these trikes that's the way to go.. All the new heads I bought'n, the exhaust valve leaks, so if you buy a head in the future, make sure you do a fluid test before installing it..

Well Dawg's Here's an update.. I received the stainless steel tubing yesterday, the silencer insert will arrive on Monday, the stainless Steel flat bar is lost in the UPS System in Buffalo, NY, somewhere, it's been there since 12/8/09 but nobody can seem to find it (you believe that, it travels 400 miles then get 100 miles away & get lost).. Company's shipping another piece to me, so it'll be a few more day before I can start building the head pipe..
I did start the construction of the Drag Pipe, which is almost complete, just waiting for the silencer insert before I cut & shape the end of the pipe.. I had decided to use 1" stainless steel tubing for the head pipe, to 1 3/4" stainless steel tubing for the Drag Pipe w/ a silencer insert w/ a 1 1/4" core diameter..

Hello Dawgs Here's some pics of my Custom Stainless Steel Drag Pipe Muffler Build.. I built the Drag Muffler before I took pictures, but I cut & welded pipe for muffler body. The Silencer Insert is manufactured by Cycle Shack for Harley Drag Pipes. I will start the Head Pipe Build tomorrow.. David Sr.

I was going to start building head pipe today, but stainless steel flat bar hasn't come in yet, turns out I've been tracking the wrong package.. Alleyoop how is the differential holding up? Is it still jumping? I've been trying to find out what we can do about it through the email address you gave me but they won't respond.. It seems they don't want to know anything about it.. Hay can you PM a list of the bulb types you converted on your BEAR? David Sr.

David Sr., Yep, we know more about the Trikes than they do:) The guy in Altanta is just and order taker and the couple people in CA they don't know much about the Trikes either. I always try to send a picture of the item, Heck they didn;t even know what a Crank was:) So pictures are a big help to them FOR REPLACEMENT OR ORDERING:) As far as problems forget it WE KNOW MORE THAN THEY DO:) I will get the list of bulbs and PM you. Dwidl62, Mine doesn't jump, but it does have slop in the Differential if thats what you mean. But if you keep it taught at stop signs or lights the spider gears will keep the gears meshed and then there is no clunk when go give it more throttle. Or ease the throttle and no clunk either. Alleyoop

Dwild62, I am going to look into getting a little bigger Front Sprocket see if I can find one. I have to count the number of teeth on the one thats on there and the size of the shaft. Then I can look around for one. Changing to 12" rear rim/tires is to expense over $400.00. So If I can find a Front Sprocket with a few more teeth that will be a heck of a lot cheaper. Alleyoop

What do you mean by jumping? If I do a dead stop and hit the throttle I do get a clunk when the chain turns the sprocket theres no tension the the differential. but thats the spider gears slop but it doesn't jump? How does yours ACT? Alley

Alley remember awhile back, I said it would jump while taking off, but only if you got into the throttle, like the drive chain was jumping a tooth, or like a gear was jumping a tooth.. But the funny thing is there's no visual evidence.. It's only done it once since I added the shims I made for the differential.. I also know when I had variator weight in that were over 12 gr it was less than w/ weight that were less than 12 gr, so the more low end torque the harder it jumped & more often.

David Sr., Yes, I remember but I think its what i get as well and that is the slop in the spider gears, it does feel like it jumped a tooth but its just the play in the spider gears when they finally mesh. Alleyoop
