Thats pretty cool! How fast will it go with all that extra weight?

erictheviking666 It says it's doing 60 - 65 mph, though I haven't checked it w/ the GPS yet.. I think it's at least 55 mph.. Sometime in the near future I'd like to clock it, to see. The weather hasn't been that great here, our short chilly summer wound down, & I'm just starting to get it broke in.. But so far no major problems, no engine noise & no blow-by or oil issues..

Thats good to hear, 55 sounds pretty good to me. If its not broken in yet and you're already hitting 55. It should run a few mph faster once you get it broke in all the way. I figured it would have a hard time holding 50mph with the extra weight and drag of the rear axle.

erictheviking666 Well, I don't know about the other ICE BEAR Models (-11, -H, -9) or the Roketa trike models, mine is the -11 model, mine has a 4 valve head, a little less restricted exhaust system, a little less restricted air filter right at carb, & a full 115 mm variator, so I believe the model -11 trike was in fact given at little more leash then some of the other scoots..
The ICE BEAR in my opinion was very well engineered, though there's still room for improvement, like a oil filled differential, instead of grease filled, the mounting of the passenger seat hing, chrome option for front forks instead of chrome decoration for the forks.. But over all pretty nice machine..

How are the to rear wheels attached? Is it like my trike that has a special gy6 engine case that has wheels on both sides? or is it done like alot of buggies and uses a gear?

Post by WildMan on Oct 10, 2009 13:52:02 GMT -5
stampsm Well, I think it's a standard 157QMJ short case w/ a recoil starter on the CVT cover, & gear box w/ reverse attached to the final on the CVT, then chain from final to the differential on rear axle, so actually the CVT becomes the primary drive, & the chain becomes the secondary drive.. It's not a bad set up, accept for the grease filled differential, which would be better if it was an oil filled differential.
I've been Trying to figure out if there's any ATV's or carts w/ this set up, for parts selection.. I haven't made any progress in that area, because when looking at just pictures you can't see enough to compare.. Need to be able to see individual pics under the plastic or see break down images of the ATV's & carts..

Yeah it would be nice to know you could use some more readily available ATV parts if necessary.

Are you getting this speed with the OEM set up or have you changed the variator too like Alleyoop? I was under the impression that you and him had identical trikes and if I remember correctly he wasn't getting as good of top end?? I really like this set up and if it was in a watercooled 250 wouldn't hesitate to get one! JRR

Well, they are making changes on the Trikes all the time. Mine which is the PST150H came with a smaller Variator and the Fan was a #115. Like Dwild62 mentioned the Exhaust Is more like a performance exhuast. The Air Filter is really not restricted, it not a box it's an Open Funnel cut an an angle with a side vent and you can see the foam filter. So I think Dwild62 Trike is able to do 55 mph already with the Variator being a #115 already matching the Fan. Dwild62 what does the specs say for max hp and at what rpms.

jrryan Well, Alleyoop has the "-H" model, I have to the "-11" model. There is some variation between the two. Like I said in another forum or another post (I don't remember which), the spec write up varies a little. The specs I have, say's 65mph + depending on riders weight, I did see a write up that said 48mph + depending on riders weight, & also a write up that said 55mph + depending on riders weight.. I am familiar w/ MPH, KPH, & CPH (Chinometers /H), because I have 2 Longbo Alien 150's, & had to calibrate the speedo's on them.. I have the digital dash, (though that doesn't mean it's 100% accurate ether), I haven't clocked it yet w/ GPS or another vehicle yet. Dash say's it's going about 60 mph on average, 65 mph depending on air currents (you know like brushing a dog), near 70 mph down hill.. Only been taking it up to the top in short spurts, as part of the break in process, last 50 miles, now has 350 miles.. I believe if feels about like my 2 Longbo Alien 150's, as far as speed. It feels to me like it's doing 55 mph - 60 mph depending on the air currents. I'm comfortable saying that's about as honest as I can be at the moment.. Let me put it to you another way, on my Longbo Alien 150's, I get 60 - 65 mph (depending on conditions) 1 up, I get 55 - 58 mph 2 up, thats 250 lb scoot + 260 lb me + 190 lb wife = 700 lb, at even say 55 mph.. So w/ 400 lb ICE BEAR TRIKE + 260 lb me = 660 lb, so why not 55 mph +!! Of coarse this isn't up hill.. In my opinion the real weight factor has a big affect going up hill, & wind conditions, & launch speed (depending on CVT set up), unless you plan to enter in a race.. Mine has great launch speed, as it sounds like Alleyoop does as well..
I was going to ask Alleyoop about his variator, cause I know he said he changed his variator, but I forgot about it.. I to plan to change my variator (maybe), I checked my variator, & it is a FULL 115 mm variator (both sides), but I might swap it out for a 115 mm Prodigy Ventilated Performance variator, (I have 2 new ones, still in the package w/ 11 gr rollers).. So there you go, that's where me & my ICE BEAR stand..

Well then it sounds like your set up is a little stonger than alleyoop's and it sure sounds like a blast to ride!! Also since you already have a 115 variator that is probably the difference too as Alleyoop did not until of course he installed the Prodigy variator which for sure helped him. JRR

jrryan I can say, when I tried 2 up on the ICE BEAR (850 lb total), it didn't like that much.. It was like the BEAR was saying "GET YOUR FAT AZZES OFF MY BACK, OH PLEASE, PLEASE!! AND HURRY THE HECK UP ABOUT IT, YOU"RE BREAKING MY BACK"!! ;D ;D ;D Size & Fit view - I'm 5' 8" tall w/ short azz legs, fits me like a glove, & great wind protection.. Man I take a darn GOOD picture, HA, HA!! David Sr.

Good looking pictures:) Yea a lot of them dealers put up bad numbers. If you check out some of the dealers specs, they show mine doing 65+ 55+ depending on rider and conditions. Actually the one I bought it from Countymotor Sports (which are out of business) did have some honest numbers, for mine they said 80KM which is 50MPH. As well as some of the other Trikes even like the one you have. But Like I said Ice Bear told me even as we speak they are making changes to the Trikes. Just like yours, yours came with Two Spacer washers on each side of your wheels, mine has only one Spacer washer. Also the Reverse is on the Left Handgrip while mine is on the side. But I am a happy camper with the Variator change and 12g Weights, I can get up to 54 mph which is fast enough for me. Since the speeds are up to 45mph around here I have a little wiggle run, most times I am doing 50 in the 45 just like everybody else. But Jrryan "GOT's" to get a bone, he the man getting me onto the Racing Variator and suggestion welding the leaking exhaust and you doing it already. I don't mine spending the money but if I ordered another muffler the revits would come loose and start leaking as well. Welding it will quiet it down and thats all I want. By the way the Rear Tires are special on this Trikes they are rated up to 93 mph. I looked all over for that size and nobody carries them so I Emailed the company and they responded who carries them. www.atvtireexpress.com/18x1010.htmlThanks guys, Alleyoop

als01seville Ya, I was going to ask you, your trike didn't come w/ the full 115 mm (both sides) variator?? Mine came w/ the full 115 mm (both sides) variator. But like I said in previous post, I have 2 new Prodigy vented racing vatiators also, I bought them for my other 2 scoots. I might swap out the one from the ICE BEAR, & put that one in one of the other scoots, or I don't know I might just buy a third Prodigy variator..
I got my trike through Scooter Dynasty, they are registered w/ the Better Business Bureau & have a good score.

Oh, als01seville Got a post from scootnsd saying he know someone who builds custom parts, & he said he was going to see if he would build some custom exhaust systems for these trike for us. Don't know what kinda price, but might be an option..

Hi David Sr, Sure enough might be an Option depending on the price. How does yours sound now that you closed it all up is it nice and quiet now. I know when it was new it was pretty quiet. Alleyoop

als01seville Sounds like it was new. The muffle has 2 chambers, the 2 1/2" opening has the emission through comb, into the first chamber which is like 3 1/2" inside diameter straight through fiber baffle, exits into the 2nd chamber (which has no baffle fiber) w/ a 3/4" - 1" straight through tube exits into the open bare chamber, bounces around until it finds the outlet tub which is also 3/4" - 1"..
I think this muffler would sound better if the second chamber had the 3 1/2" fiber baffling as well..

Hi Dwild62, Very nice job!! And you found a good spot to mount it as well. Question David SR. I noticed you too the link off the chain to get it out of the way. What do you use to undo and redo the chain link. I see neither of us can fall asleep:) Thanks Alleyoop

Hi Troops, Almost forgot, usually every Saturday if its not raining I go and get the paper Sunday paper on my Trike. This morning was no different, I took the long way around going out the back of the subdivision got the paper and decided I should go down a couple miles to Auto Zone and get 80w90 gear oil because I haven't changed that yet. Well I am cranking down the main street doing 35-40 keeping up with traffic when all of a sudden the engine starts to loose power. I pulled off to the side and it died, I hit the starter and it started right up and decided to bring it home and not take a chance having to push it home. On the way back home coming to a stop sign again the enigne started to loose power. I stopped at the stop sign the engine died again but it started right up and I made it home.
It felt like a fuel problem so I opened up the seat and took the cover off and looking around for loose hoses I saw that my Air/Fuel Mixture Screw WAS MISSING!!! I said sh!t now I have to get a Mixture Screw, but then I spotted the little spring by the Starter Motor so I got my magnet rod and pulled it out. Kept looking saying to myself well maybe the Screw also is around ther someplace and Sure enough it was under the Carb by the Starter Motor. Got lucky, I must have set it to rich out and thats why it vibrated itself out. It is now 1 1/2 Turns out and is running like a champ. So watch that Mixture Screw:) Alleyoop

als01seville Look at the chain, there's a master link.. I just use a flat screw driver, using the screw driver to push the end of clip, clip will slide loose, the just pull the link apart. Reverse the procedure to reassemble..

OK Dawg's It's CONFESSION TIME, FOR I HAVE SINNED!!My sin was that I LIED!! OH LORD OF DAWG'S, I BEG YOU FOR YOUR FORGIVENESS!! The verdict is in, the BEAR'S speedometer is a genuine Digital CHINOMETER!! ;D I hooked up the GPS today & clocked the BEAR, the final result is about a 10 mph difference .. But, I'm sure you Dawg's already knew that.. So, it appears that the BEAR is really doing 50 - 55mph, & 60mph on the down hill.. So it looks like I won't get many speeding tickets, but might get a few impeding tickets.
