"Everybody - the wife says she'll ride 2 up with me. I ordered her some gear yesterday so we'll be out next week. This all came about after she watched me dancing at my daughter's reception. She wants me to take ball room dancing lessons now. There was also something about horseback riding if she rode with me. " Congratulations! My wife still swears she'l never get on my scooter...bummer

Hak - last year I hoped she'd get a scoot and ride. At least this is a step. Get some helmet intercoms...tried ours out yesterday...wife was a much happier camper. We ended up stopping at an antique car show...I had no idea she was into antique cars. Got these from JC Motors $254 shipped. www.cardowireless.com/MultiSet

Harry - they weren't antiques when I learned to drive. My 1st car was a 61 Corvair Monza. Hers was about a 63 Mustang - wish we still had them. Intercoms - I try to avoid wearing my hearing aids whenever possible.
Thanks - have a good one

My wife and I currently use a pair of Midland radios ($20 for both) with bicycle headsets ($30 for both) that have press to talk buttons on the cords. Removing my hands from the hand grips is not something that gives my wife the warm fuzzies. She managed to drop the 50cc twice during our 'she would learn to ride' experiment. So the idea that I could drive one handed is something she hasn't come to grips with yet.

Since my wife refuses to get aboard, I have strapped a round Saddlemen bag on the back. At least it provides some lower-back support... Still, I'd rather have her company.

Harry- Awesome ride. It is a testament to your Xpeed that you even attempt that. I don't think I could trust Ole' Yeller to make it. Thanks for sharing the photos. Gary

Harry can you tell me where to get the air filter cheap for my 2008 X-Peed 250i I don't want it from CBX or UM They are to high in prices Thanks John I think the price I was quoted by CBXmax was $29 + Shipping. Richard in Korea qouted $20...he ships by international express mail which isn't cheap. Last order from him I piled up on what I thought I would maybe need for the next year...belt, brake pads, air filters. richardhyosung@yahoo.com Might also try emailing these guys... www.epfguzzi.com/hyosung/accessories/scooters_oem.htmlGary, I ran my Roketa 150 up mount rainier..but the speed limit was mostly 45 and 35 MPH. Nuttin wrong with China bikes in my opinion. parts are cheap which is a plus. They're just not 70+ MPH bikes.

Harry when you put your air filter on did you put it on dry like a lawnmower? John Nope...got to soak it in oil...you can get a can of k&N spray oil...or soak it in regular motor oil and wring it out forever. I think 'slightly damp' with oil is about right. I use the K&N stuff.

Since I took no pics along the way, I'll just mention my longest-trip to date...Last Tuesday, I ran up to Bellaire, MI from Lansing (listed at 182 mi, but with construction and lunch detours, turned out to be more like 210mi one way). A friend was receiving an award, so stayed the night and returned the next morning. The MS3 held-up very well even on the 120mi or so of freeway. Rained on Wednesday from Grayling to Lansing for the return home. 2 hours of that became old. All in all, a very good experience!

Hakuin - Its very cool that you and Harry trust yourscoots to take such long trips. I love my cheap china scoot, but really don't trust it for anything but hops around town. It would be nice to have something more reliable. A used MS3 or Xpeed would be my first choice, be there just don't seem to be any around here. I do have my eye on an '07 Burgman 400 and an '07 Sym RV250. I think the Burgman may be too much scoot for my daily routine; the Sym may be just about right. Not quite as powerful as the MS3, but hopefully as reliable.
Anyway, nice to hear about your experiences. Gary

Thanks Harry. I can find a used Sym here - just not a Hyosung or Xspeed, which would be my first choice.
Anyway, I'm enjoying hearing about your scooting adventures. Gary

Xpeed 250i and Hyosung MS3 are identical except for the name. The Xpeed is made by Hyosung Motors which is now S&T Motors.
Dislikes are the seat hump is too far forward as you have already discovered and fueling is a bit of a pain, especially if you live in an area where the fuel nozzles have evaporative recovery sleeves or you are the only one at the gas station and the pump pressure is too high.
I haven't experienced substantially more road vibration then on my S'Wing allowing that it is a 360 pound bike versus a 540 pound bike. I am on my second pair of front shocks, the previous owner lived on a cobblestone street.
The windsreen could be a bit higher...I wrote off to the laminar lip people and they offered to make me one if I could get the bike to their shop...unfortunately a trip to LA is not in near term plans.
Keep the center stand greased. I didn't grease mine and I frequently get caught in rain. Long story short it rusted in the down position. Managed to get it moving again by putting it in a vice and applying a can of liquid wrench...but still doesn't work as it should. Parts are on the pricey side.
The speedo is optimistic...like every other bike I own.
On the plus side I find the bike handles well and has more then enough power for any one up riding I do. The Mrs's and I did some two up riding but the bike fell a bit short on steep hills. Top end two up on a 10% grade was about 40 MPH. With just me on the bike top end on a 10% grade was closer to 60 MPH. Had it over 80 MPH on the GPS a couple of times but I consider top end to be 80 MPH....how fast it might get on a 10 mile straightaway is pretty irrelevant where I live as there aren't any.

You don't happen to know the weight of the stock rollers do you? I suspect mine are a tad on the heavy side, 0-10 MPH isn't that great and the tach has never been above 7,500 RPM and the engine supposedly doesn't redline till 10K.

Sounds good. I'll have to take my rollers out and weigh them when I do my 12,000km inspection.

Hi Harry, I have a question for you, if you don't mind answering. Why don't you ride your wing? Or maybe you are and aren't posting about it here. Just wondering.

Hi Harry, I have a question for you, if you don't mind answering. Why don't you ride your wing? Or maybe you are and aren't posting about it here. Just wondering. Allen As scooters get heavier and more stable they lose that 'bopping around on my scooter' feeling. I bought the Wing as a two up bike..'scooting around with my honey' is a good feeling too!! But it definitely doesn't give me that 'bopping around' feeling. Unfortunately the Mrs's broke her arm on the 4th...so some of the interesting trips we had planned are on hold for a couple of months. I still ride my 150cc quite a bit...just limited in where it can go...any distance north and the speed limits are 60 MPH and going east or west pretty much requires getting on the interstate. Which is what I got the Xpeed for.

jj,
congrats on learning scooter mechanics. The manual is pretty straight forward. I learned on my 150cc to be careful on bolts...doesn't take a lot to strip a 8mm bolt. Just normal strength tightening with a 3/8" or 1/2" drive ratchet would do it.
