Kiwi, I've been looking for some very similar to those. I think I'm going to order them. I'll let you know how they work if you don't get some first. Also, I read way back about you getting a Givi D650ST windscreen. I found a place I can order a brand-new one out of Canada (they're hard to find). I don't like the turbulence on the stock windscreen, but I'm a little worried about dropping $100+ shipping on a new windscreen I haven't even tried. I noticed you said you were about 6' 4" and it was just about right for you. I'm about 6'. Do you think it'd be too short for me? Would I be looking right at the top of it?

panjet depending on your body length you'll be looking thru the screen. You can cut it down to suit if you should not like looking thru it. My eyes are about 2-3cm/1-1.5 inches above the screen and if I flip my visor up I get no wind in my face. The visor then seems to direct the wind up and over. IMHO you will not be disappointed with that screen and it will extend your riding season.
I'll be interested in how you get on with those light bulbs?

Exactly how do you get the nose cone off? I'd hate to break something since you cannot get parts in the U.S. I also have the front end shake at 30-40mph and tried balancing the wheels to no effect. I have the small Carter Bros box on back. The noise I was having from the clutch changed, It now sounds like a slapping noise at a slower frequency. I pulled off the cover fearing a frayed belt or something...well the belt looked fine but when I tried to pull the outer clutch bell ti was way tight. I have a clutch holder and I put about 80ftlb on it and it would not budge...the manual says 40 ft pls for this bolt. What is up with that? Bike is still performing the same just making a little noise now...maybe I hear it because the exhaust is so quiet? I haven't got much time as I'm just home after being away and then away in the morning again, but briefly on the nose cone. Look earlier in the thread for the photos where I explain how to fit the windscreen. 1.) remove screws under handlebar ,and remove trim piece under windscreen by sliding it down and forward. 2.)Look at top of nose-cone for two black screw holding the black center piece of the nose cone. Remove these. Slide this piece up with a positive action, don't worry you will not break it.. 3.) remove the cross-head screws holding the nose-cone to the floorboards - all around the edge of the nose-cone. 4.) put a cloth over your front mud guard to protect it. 5.) now remove the golden hex screws in the center of the nose-cone. 6.) pull the nose cone forward and rest it on the mud guard 7.) disconnect the connectors of the two lighting harnesses. Push the clip in on the side of the connectors before pulling apart. Viola there you are all done as easy as. Clutch & variator- yes they are very tight from the factory. Use a breaker bar and use a firm quick anti-clockwise action to loosen it making sure none of your tools slip. They use power wrenches at the factory which tighten things up pretty good. real pain to undo the first time. All for now as I need to run - good luck with the job.

Kiwi,
Just got my new bulbs in the mail today. I'll be putting them in tonight probably. I'll let you know how it goes.
Sorry, but I have one more question about your Givi windscreen. I saw a while back you took it off due to durability issues. Did you ever find a solution to that? Do you still think the Givi is a good windscreen? If I don't get a Givi, my other options are the source one of the Carter Bros ones to see if there's one laying in a warehouse somewhere, or maybe just go without a windscreen altogether. I didn't have a windscreen on my old scoot, and I much preferred that to the current turbulence I get off the stock screen. It's enough to give me a headache in just a few miles!

My Givi screen did crack, My factory screen was only mounted with 4 screws, the middle front one was not fitted. This may have been left out when the shop fixed the horn. This caused the screen to tip back and caused stress cracking. I drilled a hole at the end of the crack to stop it from spreading and fitted a bolt to the middle hole. I'm very happy with it now. The Carter bros one goes a bit wider out towards the handlebars which seems better for hand wind protection, however I have no experience of how it performs with regards to turbulence around the riders head. The Givi performs very well for me in that area. Strange tho since I did the mod to the seat and am able to sit that little bit further back I have no problems with the factory screen when I use it in summer. Before the mod it drove me crazy, felt like someone grabbed my head and tilted it from side to side.

I put in the LED's last night for my brake/tail lights, and they work great!! I used the red 1157 BAY15D 13 from the link Kiwi provided above. They fit in the lenses just fine and are equally as bright if not brighter than the regular bulbs. I've got some pictures I'll post later of a comparison. It looks like you could also use the ultra bright BAY15D 14 as it is only 1 mm wider and about 5 mm longer. However, they are twice the price, and the 13's work just fine.
The only mod I had to do was file off one of the pins on the side of the bulb (I filed off the lower pin) since the Citycom has the weird offset fitting. The contacts and everything else (including power specs) match a standard 1157 bulb, but the pins are offset on the Citycom. When doing this, the bulb does sit just slightly crooked in the holder, but barely enough to make a difference, and it works just fine. It is tight and secure.

I haven't figured out how to post multiple pics so for now here is one with the brake lights on. The left is the new red LED, the right is a standard white 1157 bulb. Attachments:

Greetings from Houston, Texas USA! This past weekend, I purchased a new black 2009 Citycom 300i. Dealer gave a great price on this 2009 model with zero miles. I test drove seven or eight different scooter models and kept coming back to the Citycom 300i. What a great scooter! This is my second scooter. From 1984 to 1988, I owned a Honda Aero 50 and it was great fun riding around my college town. I plan to commute to work on my new Citycom and perhaps do some short trips around the great state of Texas. It's great to have a forum with so many Citycom riders as it's quite difficult to find anyone around here who also owns one. I'll post some pictures once I begin to ride a little more. Still have to get my class M license and take a 2 day safety course. I plan to do both next weekend...then I'll be legal One question for the group...how would you suggest I "break in" my new scooter? Can't seem to find any reliable info anywhere on what I should and shouldn't do. Thanks! Steve

To break it in you want to heat cycle it a few times... ride it around a little and let it cool off.
Once you do that about 3 times start riding it harder. Don't be afraid of full throttle on and off.
Just don't ride it at 50mph all day.....vary the speed.

Hi, I haven't logged in for ages so just caught up with posts. I've done 6,500 kms in 2 years so not heaps. All good except it fell over in 2 earthquakes, only damage = cracked exhaust shield. I have a photo of a row of bikes all bar a 600cc suzuki fell over. The huge Harley was the hardest to pick up and was pouring oil out of its tank. I've been on cruises with sports bikes & cruisers and keep up just fine. According to those tailing me I pull 140km easily and I weigh in at 100kg so that is pretty good. My speedo seems to be telling the same as a cross section of others so not too far out. I can carry 18 bottles of wine with underseat and top box, just a meaningless bit of info. Scooter is great on our stuffed roads (earthquake stuff!!) as can get past queues and avoid the worst of the holes.

Steve welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll have a great timen your scoot. On page one of this thread you'll see that I followed Motoman's hard break in. My scoot has just passed 39000kms and it runs like clockwork. Does not use or leak any oil. My fuel consumption hovers around 27 km/liter. cp750 - good to see you around still. Sorry about the earthquake damage. luckily I'm in Belfast so had no damage to speak of and the scoot survived the shaking. I ride often down to Dunedin often after work on a Thursday night. Only mishap is that my centerstand got bent by a car brake caliper and saved my scoot's engine from damage. Almost threw me. Tried 1000mile in 24 hours, but only manages 900 miles/1460kms in 20 hours. Where are you in Christchurch? any damage? Good shake ( 5.5 magnitude) tonight tho!

Citycommers,
I have two questions for the group...I hope this has not already been answered but I did a search and couldn't find anything in this thread.
1) My Citycom has shut off a couple of times while sitting at a traffic light. The bike seems to be plenty warmed up but just shut off after sitting idle for a minute or so. It starts right back up and then runs great. It almost seems as though it is not idling high enough. The scooter has about 160 miles on it, has premium gasoline in it, just did an oil change at 100 miles. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?
2) Can you give me US dealers that sell rear cargo boxes that fit the Citycom? Although the storage under the seat is good, I need a bit more room for work stuff, workout clothes, groceries, etc.
Thanks much!

I myself have had this problem and a page or two back another guy had the problem too. For me it only happens when the scooter hasn't warmed up yet and I speed up quickly and then drop to idle to come to a stop. It seems when the engine is cold the computer has trouble adjusting the injection fast enough to keep up with the rapid change. It doesn't seem to be too much of an issue and only happens on occation, so I don't stress about it. 2) Can you give me US dealers that sell rear cargo boxes that fit the Citycom? Although the storage under the seat is good, I need a bit more room for work stuff, workout clothes, groceries, etc. On page 16 of this thread there's a bit of a discussion about topcases, but I'll elaborate a little. As far as I know, there are(were) two options available for topcase racks for the Citycom. The former U.S. distributor, Carter Bros, had one they made that a topcase could be mounted on. You may have a hard time finding one as Carter Bros is out of business. There may be one somewhere at a dealer or you may be able to find a used one somewhere. I believe Carter also included a Givi E450 case with that kit, although if you can find the rack, it'll probably accept just about any topcase. Givi also made a topcase rack for the Citycom. It seems to be much easier to find, and some people prefer it. I actually have one, but I haven't mounted it yet. www.pca-one.com/productDetail.asp?productID=4941From what I understand, this one will accept any Givi Monolock series topcase (there's quite a selection found all over the net). I'm guessing most topcases will mount to it someway, but don't quote me on that as I don't know for sure.

Mine did it a little when it was new.....much less if ever now @ 2300 miles. I have the Carter Bros box on mine. Please note mine has a little handlebar ocsillation when I use the top case...much less with it off. not a problem ever unless you let go of the bars @ 40 mph. Citycommers, I have to say that this scooter is a great ride. Granted, I only have about 300 miles on it, but after about a week and a half of buzzing around on busy Houston, Texas streets and freeways, this scooter rocks! - It rides and tracks very stable
- The finish on the body is very tight and clean
- The engine is very responsive
I look forward to putting many many fun miles on this scooter!

Hi Kiwiscoot, I'm in Richmond, was on holiday in Akaroa when the 5.5 hit. Just spent $88 on new exhaust shield so I'll have to wash off all the liquifaction while I'm at it. Hasn't been washed since Feb as seems pointless. Just paid a deposit to get a Sachs scooter bought if from Aust for my wife, pink of course so not as fast as a red one. Will arrive early Dec. Emoto in Moorehouse do Citycom parts, pity City Scooters shut up shop as I liked those guys. Cheers

Hope your house is OK? as I rode thru Richmond the afternoon after the shake. Around the school area was a mess with liquifaction almost up to the floorboard of my wife's scoot. What happened with your heat-shield. Mine got whacked early on by a post at Northlands Mall as it stands proud of the scoot. I made a metal flat shield which you should see in some of my photos. Not pretty, but does the job and now I know where the handlebar can fit thru there the scoot will fit thru. Hammerhound - beautiful scoot just like mine only thing to improve the good looks is to do plastic surgery and remove the whale tail from the back. ;D You will find the scoot gets more responsive after 20 000kms as the engine takes quite a while to fully bed in. enjoy your rides

Friends, I am trying to locate the gear oil inspection (fill) screw and the drain screw and cannot find it. Ok, I am not the best with engines, but I should at least be able to spot the screw.
Can one of the better wrenches of this forum talk me through finding the fill and drain screw?
I am following Kiwi's oil change schedule...
One final question...the "diff" oil is the gear oil, right?
