Hey chaks, Makina parts has been mentioned for parts as the prices are reasonable. I think kiwiscoot has ordered from there before. I went looking as the air filter in Canada at the dealer near me was over $100 CDN. The brake fluid is DOT 4 not 3. I use 75w-90 synthetic as gear lube and it has been fine. I have Peak antifreeze in mine but there are many quality coolants. 50-50 mix As for rollers, I just ordered Dr.Pulley sliders as a replacement. See a few replies back for where I bought them. I am looking at Makina for the belt as well.

Hey audioguy,
Thanks for the input, I took this off the manual just then "WELLRUN DOT 3 brake fluid" Unless I'm looking at the wrong spot??
Yeah the makina parts looks pretty reasonable actually, I hope they ship to Australia. My mate has a few things to buy for his Suzuki so maybe we'd be able to share shipping.
As you said CDN, I'm guessing you live in Canada, I reckon that might have a bit of an impact on your gear oil selection. I think I might need to do a bit more research on that.
Everyone's gunning for Dr.Pulley so I might take a good look into that.
As for coolant, I have no idea what I'm doing so I think a 50-50 mix might be the way to go, just gotta keep an eye out for sales at the local shop.
How far have you ridden? As an indicator for when to replace the belt. Kiwiscoot said he's done 15k on his stock belt and probably could have done another 5-10k on it.
I'm thinkin just order everything at once and then slowly replace parts as I go along. Thanks for the reply though!

Well with our earthquake damaged roads here the scoot suffered some broken plastic bits after I hit a very bad pothole in the dark. Turned out the plastic bit at the back of the headlight reflector that holds the spring clip for the lamp had broken off. You can see the square hole. Close up. This caused the spring clips to float around and the lamps to dislocate from their holes. A M4 nut & bolt & washers fixed it. I put the spring washer on the inside to as the inside surface is not flat. Spring clip back in place. Close up. I put a bit of RTV onto the nut and clip to hold it in place during vibration. I changed the light bulbs back to the factory 35W ones as the reflectors show signs of bubbling which could be the heat. This causes a dilemma as on my first ride with the 35W's in a lady turned in front of me. This never happened with the 60W light bulbs as I think they are more visible in daytime. I may adjust one of the light up more to make it more visible. Happy scooting. Kiwiscoot

Ray - No worries. I think that was Kiwi's purpose in keeping this thread alive. Do let me know how the install goes. I bought some 55w bulbs, and I didn't see any real difference. Audio - The dealer did a bit of customization to my bike and that's one of the things that on it. I LOVE those grips. Quite comfy, and I have better grips even when my hands sweat. SUCCESS! I found an automotive electrician locally via Craigslist and he was able to properly install HID's! It was a bear. Now I have fully working HID's and I LOVE them! And with the HI-LO function too! He got it to work tonight with just low's, but I use my hi-lo function when I ride the canyons and when splitting lanes on the freeway. He checked the schematics again, had it wired correctly...looks like we had a connection loose and voila...it worked! This truly was a custom job. We had to fabricate some parts. I highly recommend a good electrician and if you're in the Los Angeles area, hit me up and I will connect you with my guy. I rode unlit twisty canyons tonight, the freeway, and unlit side streets and it was GREAT!

Well, it looks like I'm done for the season. We had a big dump of snow a week ago and it looks like it's here to stay. I am in the process of removing all the body work as I am taking the panels in to be painted. I love this scoot, but the dark blue doesn't really appeal to me. In honour of the 1970 Boss 302 Mustang I once owned, I am painting it Grabber Blue. I may be getting some parts powder coated as well. Have to see how the money situation goes this winter. For all of you now in your riding season, enjoy and stay safe!

I've just change the tires from Michelin Gold standards to Pirelli GT23(front) & GT24(back) and what a nice ride. I've had two sets of Gold Standards on the scoot, but the ride of the Pirelli's are way more comfortable. The Michellins gave pretty good life (15000km & 16000km for the two sets of back tires & 31000 for the front) so I hope the Pirelli's life is the same. Happy Citycoming... "New Zealand - where it's beautiful Citycom weather today. " AArrrgg - it's been raining for the last two days here in Calif...parked my Citycom in the shop garage and drove my truck home - first time since last Feb. I am now enjoying the ride on Michelins.- I do like the ride on Pirellis but they wore pretty quickly. The Pirelli are stickier and better for the wet, but here in Southern Calif, I don't get that many rainy days... I also cracked the plastic muffler heat protecter putting the bike into the shop....

I am ordering a set of Metzeler FeelFree for my Citycom. I've read a lot of good things about them, so I will give them a shot. I have a few months to go until i can try them out though. Only -6C right now, so that's not bad, but too much snow.

Yes I did mean Pirelli GTS23 & GTS24.
Ootscoot I broke mine in the first year of ownership. Made my own aluminum flat one, not as pretty but more functional. The factory one stands out to far from the muffler IMHO.
Happy Citycomming. Kiwiscoot PS - Ootscoot I will not mention what the day is like here... ;D

Hi, Just waiting to put my hands in my JCosta variator that's arriving from italy today :-)
One doubt, I was taking a look in the service manual, and there, in the images, front brake caliper is distinct from the rear ..... including, in the images, the front caliper includes 2 oil hoses, that means that the motorcycle has a combined brake system.
here in Brazil, rear caliper is exactly the same from the front wheel, and there's no combined brake.
is this feature available anywhere in the world?

Well largely due to the wonderful informative comments and running epilogue from Paul (Kiwiscoot) and many others, I finally decided to buy a new SYM Citycom in Brisbane, it should be here before Xmas. White in colour, it gets a service check from the local scooter retailers before being passed on to me.
Apparently it come with a type of "running in" engine oil (mineral not synthetic) that should not be changed until around 1000 kilometres has been doe.
I have discussed things like changing the rollers, updating the lights, changing brake pads and installing a magnetic drain plug. I will probably get these done after the 1000 k service. The Citycom comes with a 4 year warranty in Australia.
One priority change will be to cut the windscreen in half. I am also a tall rider like Kiwi, 6'3" and the Citycom screen is hell on earth for wind buffering as I have observed by having long demo rides on two different Citycom bikes.
I have looked at replacement screens and talked to a number of windscreen manufacturers and dealers, and the consensus is that it might be best to simply cut the screen. The major point out raised by many of them was that most helmets are designed to receive high velocity wind buffering and many bikes that go faster than the Citycom have much lower screen that only come to a riders mid chest area.
Kiwi, I have a question about the magnetic oil plug. If the engine is aluminium would a magnetic plug ever pick up anything?

roblengyel - regarding magnetic plug, "been there done that". Somewhere embedded in this "monster" thread is an account of me using computer harddisk magnets (extremely strong) in the oil strainer. Needless to say it got nothing, so I removed them again after a few 1000kms. Screen - the other option you have is the big Givi screen, but hey in Brisbane you'll melt behind it in summer as there is no wind to speak of behind it. You may want to explore another helmet too. My Oxford helmet was terrible, but my Zuess modular is just fine - better aerodynamics I guess. I now fit the factory screen for summer rides with no buffeting. rovoul - that "extra" hose you see on the front brake is actually the speedo sensors cable. All our scoots have the same front & rear brake calipers. Sad day for me as due to changed personal circumstances, I am back in a flat & have to sell my beloved Citycom. You can see it here www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/scooters/auction-541684434.htm - Not looking forward to the day she goes. Kiwiscoot - who got to the end of his Citycom road....

Oh no . I had to re-read this a few times before it sunk in. Sorry to hear this kiwi, I hope it all works out before too long. Is there no way you can keep your 300 while you sort things out? It looks to me like your scooter gives you the freedom of the roads which I suspect you could use right now. My GTS300 is up to 6000km now btw, still a long way to go!

It's a sad day. Kiwiscoots detailed escapades with his Citycom, is directly responsible for my decision to purchase my scoot. But I do understand, as I recently had to sell a vehicle I had for 24 years and miss dearly. Life goes on. Your contributions and info are a massive resource for people, and I myself Thank You for such detail and continuing to keep us all informed.
Thanks and stay well.

Well, the snow is here, Christmas is near! Just want to wish all fellow scooterists a Happy New Year, with safe driving, no accidents, and lots of fun. As always, remember to shoulder check... I have been watching a few videos on YouTube, on scooter accidents, and so often people forget to shoulder check. I have been one of those people to. We are very vulnerable out there. When someone hits us, theres not alot of protection, so stay safe! This new year will be bringing my scootering time to almost a standstill. I joined the Canadian Forces as a steward. I leave for my training January 19, 2013. At the end of summer, and with 3 different moves (Quebec, then British Columbia, then Ontario) it will be hard to get scootering in. Maybe I can put my scoot on a C-130 Hercules and get it shipped where ever I go Anyways, thanks for now, and like some other people here, the only reason I bought a SYM Citycom 300i, instead of a Vespa 300, was because of Kiwiscoot. Thanks once again. Both my scoots are parked for the winter in my friends heated garage. I feel lucky, since I dont have a garage Alright, Merry Christmas, Hunukah, or whatever faith/belief/religion you may have, and SAFE RIDING!!! toodles ~ Elgin

Hi Kiwiscoot. All the best.
On screens and helmet noise, I have a Shoei Multitec as I like to open the helmet up at traffIc lights and during a ride etc. and its hot most days here. The Multitec is not known as a quiet helmet. I will look at other helmets in the New Year.
Regarding SYM, we have the new MaxSYM 400 arriving next week in Brisbane at around $7,900 on the road with 12 months registration and third party insurance.
That may be your next bike Kiwi!
MERRY XMAS and safe new year to Paul and all who have made this forum very interesting and a fun place to be.
