To all the guys that gave us info on the valve adjustments: Thank you so much!!! You helped us "fix" it!!!! We bought from ExtremeScooters.com; Dave Bergman. He has been somewhat helpful; with a little threat from us, he did get us a fuel pump shipped from Goldenvale in CA. The problem that we had was when the brake was applied, the engine choked down and would go dead. We changed out the fuel pump and it helped a little, but the engine would still go dead when coasting to a stop. Someone posted info about adjusting the valves and "voila" it worked!!!! Thanks so much!!!! Other than most of the plastic still being removed, it runs great! When we began adjusting the intake/exhaust valve, we could not fit a .0015 feeler-guage in the valve, it should be .0004! No wonder it would not run!!! Brunoman66

Hey brunoman66....mine was at .0015 when I checked the intake. But it should be reset to .004, not .0004. You didn't really reset it to .0004 did you? My exhaust valve was completely closed. What mileage did you have to do it at? I had to hit mine up at 1269 miles. I am wondering if we are seeing a trend, and need to tell the new owners when they show up that they need to be doing a valve adjustment right at 1000 miles on these things...atleast the Linhai clone engine anyway. Glad you got her fixed!

I sincerely hope the .0004 was a typo, sort of like what you wish your paycheck had, an extra 0

I read somewhere on the forum that the intake S/B .004 and the exhaust .006. I adjusted mine to those clearances. Is that a problem? I still have the plastic off waiting for the LED's to arrive so it would be fairly easy to correct. BTW, it runs great on the stand. It appears to have more punch and starts instantly.

Just a quick update: I have contacted the BBB and the Kansas State Attorney General - they both will probably do squat, but the BBB states that ANS has until October 2, 2008 to respond. Carl M (The "Parts" manager) @ ANS stated on September 11, 2008 that he would be sending some headlights because he wanted to make sure that this wasn't the issue after I had already changed the headlights. He stated that the headlights should be in my possession by Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Here we are at Wednesday, September 24, 2008 and guess what? No bulbs (In my best Gomer Pyle, USMC: "Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!"). If anyone is reading this post and has not purchased from ANS but is considering it, do yourself a favor and go get yourself a Harley or a Victory - save yourself the sorrow!!! Speaking of which a good friend of mine sent me some links to some pretty bikes that I would consider if they were located much closer to where I live. Maybe this will be helpful to someone else (please see links below). cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycles___NO-RESERVE-Lots-of-Chrome-and-upgrades-Low-miles_W0QQitemZ220284086880QQddnZMotorcyclesQQddiZ2283QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220284086880&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A-2|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycles___2008-Victory-Vegas-8-Ball-No-Reserve_W0QQitemZ250297826053QQddnZMotorcyclesQQddiZ2283QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250297826053&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A-2|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245Yours, UrsaPolaris

BTW, I think I have finally found a mechanic that my be able to work my issue - I haven't ridden in almost a month, but I am also looking into getting a used Harley. A good scooter mechanic is hard to find, but so are the parts. But going from a Roketa to a Harley? That's quite leap! More power to you.

Well, things keep getting better - it looks like I have a good friend that is going to sell me his Yamaha V-Star - looks like a Fat Boy, but very quiet by comparison - has a 1200cc engine displacement and rolls like it needs butter... not exactly the Harley or the Victory that I was looking at, but the financing will be much better... ;D

Hugh and wxguru, I am confused... You are saying "intake S/B .004 and the exhaust .006." but I did this: Is there a conversion difference here? Are your numbers English and these metric?

JiuJitsu, Those metric dimensions convert to .0031-.0047 inches for intake and .0062-.0078 inches for exhaust. Most of our feeler gauges are in inches. So the .004 and the .006 that I referred to in my post is in inches.

Post by JiuJitsu on Sept 27, 2008 17:55:16 GMT -5
That is what I figured.
I put mine about as close to the center of the ranges as I could, about 0.10mm intake and 0.18mm exhaust, so I am right around .004" intake and .007" exhaust.
Today I replaced some hoses and hose clamps and the fuel filter too - real nice!
Not bad for over 7,000 miles late!

From the Kansas BBB (I have changed my name to my scootdawg handle): "On September 29, 2008, the business provided the following information: Contact Name and Title: Bryan Nguyen Contact Phone: 316-312-3572 Contact Email: sales@allnewsports.com We have contacted UrsaPolaris via email with this information. Thank you." These guys are UNREAL - while they did send me basic information concerning the fact that they indeed sent the light fixtures, they did not answer the questions that I have been posing to them since September 5, 2008 (nearly a month ago at this point). I bet they think that I am going away or something now that I have waited this long, but now that I have purchased a 2003 Yamaha V-Star Classic w/ 1100cc's (which I rode home last night - awesome ride!) I can afford to wait a little longer and I will be rejecting their alleged solution. I cannot believe the amount of incompetence that this company is showing! I have no desire for a personal vendetta against these guys, but these folks would make Job (of Biblical fame) impatient. Yours, UrsaPolaris

Yeah they are really dragging their feet on my wheel replacement too. They received the defective part 8/7/08 and all I can get out of Carl (parts manager) is to blame Roketa/Goldenvale. It really seems that they are dishonest and belong in jail.

Hey JiuJitsu,
Just out of curiosity, have you contacted the Kansas BBB or Attorney General yet? We need to band together and encourage ANS to be all that they can be... ;D

Actually I have not, and I believe they may legitimately be bogged doen by Roketa / Goldenvale. I see on this thread there is a known issue with the wheel and Roketa seems pretty backed up: scootdawg.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=17151I do not really have a legitimate gripe with ANS other than this wheel replacement has taken two months... I do think they dragged their feet until I complained, but I don't think that rises to BBB level, yet...

Just a quick FYI fellow dawgs: it appears that there may be a new parts manager at ANS by the name of John. At this point he appears to be an honorable man - I hope that he can help me with the resolution of my issue. BTW, I am loving the 2003 Yamaha V Star Classic, although getting used to that manual transmission is like getting used to being married...

roketa is sometimes as slow as the slow boat from china.
ordered a brake handle and windshield (dont ask ill tell, my little dog got under my feet in the doorway and needless to say the handle and windshield took a door frame hit along with the back of my arm and roketa couldnt send me a new arm they were out of stock and backordered due to many folks dumping their bikes, poor dog.) and they were holding my order for the windshield, i could have been riding with the brake handle, but the windshield is BO'd i finally after tw0 weeks divided the order to get the handle sooner
it was not apparent on the web site what they were doing, no b/o notice.
grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yeah I also received a message that Carl was gone...
I am glad to hear that John is good. We'll see I guess.
Now my muffler has fallen off and I replaced with a cheap dirt bike exhaust and it would be crazy loud if it ran... But the part connecting the vacuum to the engine from the carb is totally severed and I do not even know if Roketa (or anyone) sells the part I need for CFMoto carb attach to Linhai engine.
Lost my job today too... runnin' out of steam for the scoot, it never ends...
Well, I started the post with a promise to be honest -
allnewsports - not too good - gone BTW
scootertronics - not too good - may be different if you purchase through them, I don't know.
Roketa - it's a challenge - I love her but she's wearing me out!!!
I'll fix the current issue, but with no job now I am into some other priorities first...
My Ford Ranger is reliable if not economical!

Major bummer JiuJitsu The economy is going to a hot place in a hand basket and I bet it is going to take 5 to 10 years for the correction if not longer. Thank you so much for starting this thread; it has been so much fun to get to know the users through their posts. The Roketa Scoots are problematic at best, but getting experience with the issues that others were having through their posts sure did lighten the load - as a matter of fact, if it had not been for the dawgs on this thread, I may not have earned the Indiana Motorcycle Endorsement and completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course. So a big THANK YOU to all the dawgs on the thread! Yours, UrsaPolaris P.S. JiuJitsu - hit the ground running - I bet that you can find a job in 30 days or less (even if you have to move)!!!

JiuJitsu I feel your pain, In 2004 got laid off and it took 8 mths before I got a job and 18 mths before I got a job that was in my field of work and equal to what I was making. Now in a company wide meeting yesterday, once again everybody gets a one/two week unpaid vacation in November (actually called a temporary layoff). Oh and I'm burnt out working on my scoot too, I haven't had the severe problems you have had but it wears on ya. To date I've done 3 Fuel pumps(last one is electric), front wheel bearings and now it stalls and I need to adjust valves. Throw in fixing a few issues with the truck and car and I'm tired of spending wk ends turning wrenches.

Just doesn't seem quite as urgent now I have no commute... DOH!

Hey fellow Dawgs,
Just an FYI: the dimmer switch that I have been raising sand over since Sept 5, 2008 finally cme in the mail on Oct 20, 2008. That is a full 6 weeks plus of wait time over this one issue effectively killing 700 miles of travel, ending my summer riding (of the scooter), and forcing me to cosider and buy a new, full blown motorcycle. Moreover, I had to contact the BBB over the issue and the Kansas Attorney General over the issue. If I had it to do all over again, I would have bought from a local dealership as opposed to using ANS, but you live and you learn - hopefully this thread will be a lesson to other younger and more "inexperienced" to BEWARE and use a local dealership along with a high quality name such as HONDA. If you do not have the time to wait, do NOT, repeat do NOT use AllNewSports. Now as soon as I say that, I must also say this - my experience with the new parts manager (John) has not been anywhere near as traumatic as my experience with the former parts manager (Carl M). It is my hope that ANS can continue to clean up their act and be the stellar business that their owner should hope to be.
Yours, UrsaPolaris

Did the parts come from ANS or did the parts come from Roketa? Most drop shippers are at the "mercy" of Roketa and their slowness, can't necessarily blame ANS or any drop shipper for slow Roketa parts. Hell, you're lucky you've gotten parts at all, some never come!

Hi glassvial,
I believe the parts to have come from ANS, it looks like I am going to have to modify the dimmer switch some, but this is not a big issue because it is close enough to the original to match in my estimation. Long story short is that I think I had these good folks at ANS by the short hair and they knew it. I would suggest that each and every time a customer gets poor service they make a federal case out of the issue so that these folks can learn to do a better job. It does no one any good if we, as a community, just grab our ankles and let companies like ANS get away with sloppy customer service. Moreover, we owe it to those who will come after us to help them to have the best experiences possible and if we do not stand up to those who would menace us (such as ANS), then we will continue to have substandard service, or, as Clark Howard would say, "Customer No Service". In this struggling economy, we have all paid too much for this type of treatment - we have been brutally abused by corporate America as well as those who have ruined the financial markets. We are tired of the abuse from all ends and we need to stand up for ourselves as well as those who are incapable of standing up for themselves. I emplore you all to be strong and courageous when faced with these sorts of issues - be patient and don't give up!!!
Yours, UrsaPolaris

IMO. this entire thread is a shining example NOT to buy a Chinese scooter unless you have lots of time, considerable mechanical skill, a big bunch of patience and enjoy spending more time in the garage than riding.
JJ - I too will have job challenges in 2009. My current job is coming to an end. I hope you get this all figured out because job hunting AND transportation troubles are no fun. BTW - has anyone on this board ever been successful in suing a drop shipper or getting action from an Attorney General's office?
