I just got a nice tidbit of information. I'm not sure if it's been posted before but I don't remember it if it has been. This is for Peace Sports 50 scooters. It may or may not apply to other manufacturers. On the rear of the engine case, on the part of the case above the rear axle by the rear brake pads there is a stamp either 5B or 6B. 5B means it's a 49.5cc, 6B it's a 63. Greg Attachments:

Before, the only way to know for sure was to take off the head. I've been searching for a long time for an EXTERNAL identifier to definitively show if a block has a 50cc or a 63cc in it.
I'm actually surprised that my new rental scooters are 50 and NOT 63. They are extremely fast (faster than my personal one that IS a 63) and go 45 on the flat, radar verified by a brand new radar speed sign that the town purchased a month ago.

Well to know for SURE that you have a 63cc is to take the head off and measure the piston. BTW does your engine say 1P39QMB or 139QMB It should be on the left side by the kickstand. Most likely yours is a 63cc despite what the title says.

danillobh84 then all the clues point to you having a 63cc, you lucky dawg! If you still question it, tear it down measure the piston, if its a 44mm then its 63cc, if its 39mm then its 49cc.

A 63cc engine will have 200-210 lbs compression, where a 50cc will have 160 and sometimes up to 180 tops on a very good engine.

Well i check my scoot and i figured there wouldnt be anything there. No 5b or 6b...nothing, I even cleaned it! LOL doesnt even have the type of engine engraved in the block, just a 9 didgit engine code and a smudged vin # but im pretty sure my scoots just a regular old 49cc nothing fancy about it.

The info about the cast number comes from Peace Sports Parts Department who deals with this day in and day out. If your engine has 6B on it then it IS a 63. Verified by the manufacturer. No reason the Tao Tao's should be different since the engines probably come from the same assembly line.
Title says 50cc for EPA and DOT reasons which have been discussed ad nauseum. It's not *supposed* to be 63, it just IS.

I just checked some new Peace bikes we got in, they are 5Bs. I figured they were 50s because they go around 35mph. All the 2011 Tao Taos we've had have been 63s. I'll have to check whats stamped on the Tao Tao cases.

Just so there is no confusion. The 6B is mine. The 5B is a rental scooter. Greg Attachments:

Great info. I was just talking to a dealer bout getting one of the "60's", and he mentioned "6B" but I didn't know what he was referring to.....
Asked him if the titles for the "60's" (63's) still say 49cc...he confirmed that they do.
This is GREAT! So glad i found this forum, or I would never have known.

So I have a scoot that I believe might be a taotao, it doesnt have the markings that you posted but it is stamped 1p39qmb. Did those engines come as both b5 & b6? Now I am curious but probably not enough to tear it all down to measure until it gets a bbk.

Mine ~2010 Dash50~ must be a 63cc because it does say 6B and 1P39QMB on it.

I wish I had those extra 13cc's. Seems like this might cause a legal issue, I mean so much pressure is put on the 49.9cc rule book that if the authorities knew you were running no registration, insurance, or even a helmet. NV doesn't require anything but a DL and eye protection for 50cc. Maybe it should stay a secret....

I have the feeling that it's only one certain factory in China that actually stamps the 6B or 5B on the engine casing. It doesn't seem to be consistent enough to be a standard stamping. I just know that all the Peace Sports 50's from 2009+ have that stamp on them, and many other "manufacturers" including Tao Tao buy engines from the same factory.
