Super cool! You must have a job or something similar. The Xciting 250 is like 2nd down from the Kymco flagship Xciting 500. When Kymco asked me what displacement I wanted to review, I told them something in the mid-range...150 or 250cc. The logic behind that was that most ScootDawg vistitors are happy Chinese bike owners but at some point will want to step up. Something tells me that when it arrives, I won't have to be looking for spark.

Thanks for the congrats guys!! Uncle Boeing I guess would qualify as a job!! While I REALLY didn't expect to upgrade this soon, Uncle Boeing is about to come through with a pretty heafty bonus that will make it easier. Only FOUR HOURS left before I can pick it up!!

Two words, SIMPLY AMAZING!! Don't get me wrong, I really like the Tank Racer, but this is like going from a Yugo to a Lexus!! ;D First things first . . . Pros: Fit in finish is top notch! Braking, smooth as silk! Acceleration, EXCELLENT! Ride, very smooth as well! Four way adjustable brake leversl Excellent mirrors, very little vibration visible when riding. Cell holder and charging port under seat. Cons: I'm five foot eight and a half inches tall so the high seat height doesn't allow me to stand flat footed when stopped. Under seat storage a is shallow, wont be storing any helmets in there! Ignition switch will take some getting used to since it serves multiple funtions: Note Worthy: RPM's run MUCH higher then the 150, between 5k and 6k at around 45mph. Could be just a break in thing, I'm going to test KYMCo customer assistance here shortly and ask if this is normal. I'll post a report once complete.

Uh, Dawg? I think I filled up the server!! Sweet lookin' bike! Thanks for posting. There is some limit to the storage of photos on proboard but I'm surprised if we reached it this month. I'm hoping more of us can read the instructions extremepr wrote for us on how to hyperlink pics into the messages. It's easier for the viewer if nothing else.

Beautiful scooter Michael! The dealer where I bought my TNG also sells Kymcos. I'm having some warranty work done on my scoot right now...I'm going to have to take a close look those bikes (I also like the Grand Vista) when I pick up my scooter. Man, if I'd come home with a new scooter my wife would kill me ;D...but darn, they sure look nice!

By the way, If you want to know how to place a picture like Aaron did, here is how you do it. I wrote this in the attaching pictures subject so i'll just put it here: What I do is I upload my pictures to photobucket.com, then I get 3 choices of how I want to link to my picture. In the included picture that I put here I copy the option circled in red. Then when I write a post here or any other forum I just paste the link in the message. PS:The hosting of the pictures is free so this would help out Lee with cost savings so he won't have to pay to post pictures here

michaelc;
See the thread "Topic: Attaching pictures and files". Toward the bottom are instruction for inline images.
For your own photos you have to have 'em stored somewhere that allows external references (my ISP does not ... hence no avatar).
xtremerpr sugested using photobucket.com.
(. . . another login name and password).

Guys what extremerpr said but I host my pics with www.image-upload.net . When you upload they automatically come up as an file. Just copy the line go back to ScootDawg and paste in your message or signature box! Good luck! With the addition of the link by michaelc I have deleted the hyperlink post! Aaron

Sweet lookin' bike for sure. I see dual disc brakes on front. Is it single disc on rear?
|
|
|
Post by michaelc on Jun 19, 2006 11:20:03 GMT -5
Yes, single on the rear, but the bike stops REALLY well. I called Mid America Powersports yesterday about what I still think is very high RPMs, they said give it a couple of days to see if it 'settles down' and if not bring it in for a look. STILL running a 5.5 to 6k at almost all times. That high of RPMs can't be good for a new engine.

Earlier, you said 6K around 45 mph. That doesn't sound out of line to me at all. I'm betting that you were getting false readings from the Chinese scoot.
|
|
|
Post by michaelc on Jun 19, 2006 13:20:12 GMT -5
Let me elaborate:
The RPMs below are required to hold the noted speed. All speeds and RPMs noted on flat Kansas roads with minimum wind.
3,000: Clutch engages 5,000: Hold 30 to 35mph 6,000: Hold 40 to 45mph 6,500 to 7,000: Hold 50 to 55mph
I'm affraid if I need to get around someone, I'm going to red line it. I will be glad when you get your eval unit so we can compare notes!!
|
|
|
Post by Admin on Jun 19, 2006 15:10:56 GMT -5
Hmmm, that still sounds in line to me. The rx150i is running higher rpm's than that (as it should). What's the red line on it? When and if I get this Tank 250 going we'll have something to compare it to...but I'll have to put the computer on it. It doesn't have a tach. It's going to be a while before I get the review unit. It's got to go to MRP first for a photo shoot.
|
|
|
Post by michaelc on Jun 19, 2006 15:19:22 GMT -5
The bike redlines at 8,000, maybe I'm just being paranoid. All I have to compare it to is the Racer 150 and it would do 45mph in a heartbeat at 4,000. It's just different, GOOD, but different. Thanks as always for your valued opinion.

That is a REALLY sweet bike! I'm jealous as hell . Uncle Boeing was good to You, wasn't He?

Uncle Boeing has ALWAYS been good to me. I really get tired of listening to all these 'old timers' out here griping and moaning about how the company has screwed them over the years! The sense of entitlement out her is just ramped!!
On a brighter note, I put some gas in the 250 last night and did a mileage check, a little over 56 mpg. That's within + or - 10% of advertised so I'm pleased. Also puts my mind at ease about my 'perceived' RPM issue.
Looks like you were right Lee, once again!! ;D

Just an update:
I finally got the wife on the scooter last night. The 250 does MUCH better with a passenger then the 150 did.
I also want to retract my statement about the shallow seat storage! I rode to work yesterday even though it was threatening to rain so just for kicks and giggles I tried storing my helmet under the seat. Low and behold, IT FIT! So move under seat storage from 'Con' to 'Pro'.
