There are 3 yellow wires that come from my stator, at the first connector its all melted real bad. Do you think I should clip the wires and hook them back together? What could've caused this? Thanks

I would cut then take ac voltage readings on the 3yellows .the regulator may have shorted out causing the melting.

Usually when wires or connectors melt, its due to high resistance. The male and female connectors within the plastic might have been a been loose. The other thing is what type of amperage do you think you're drawing. Are there a lot of things that you added that might be reconsidered extras to the bike?

that is a 11 coil stator i think. Mine is a 6 coil stator and my plug was also melted. Discovered it about a week ago. idk what caused it but i just cut the wires and connected them back together.

I run across this with old motorcycles quite often, usually the connections get dirty then hot and melt the plug. If the stator and regulator read good with a multimeter, I solder and shrink wrap the wires. It is an easy fix that you won't have to worry about again.

My readings were 17, almost 17, and about 8. they kept fluctuating. I cut the wires from the plug then twisted them together and wrapped with elec. tape really good. I plugged in my taillights and they were really dim. What does the voltage regulator look like?

Follow the yellow wires it goes to the regulator. You have to take the measurements with the yellows disconnected.

Yellow wires got really hot when i unhooked them, so i hooked them back up, So with all the wires still hooked to the regulator this is my readings.
Yellow Side 6.2-6.4 1.8-2.1 5.44
Other side (going to power everything) 10.6 12.2 -.17 to -.20 or so
Suddenly now my taillights are full brightness.
With these whacked readings do you think I need a regulator?

Still doesn't explain the melted wires though. If anything that should make it run cooler lol.

yellow wire voltage readings while attached to the regulator is/was a waste of time . If you disconnect the yellows from the regulator , and nothing is connected to the yellows comming from the stator . You should get no heat from the wires . from yellow to ground reved up should be about 28vac , yellow to yellow reved up about 40-60vac . The regulator loads the acv when connected and shunts the excess to ground .

I cut the wires from the plug then twisted them together and wrapped with elec. tape really good. bad idea, the connection will eventually fail. use wire nuts instead and position them where water doesn't sit in them. you could use a crimp on direct connection but you would need to cut wires if you replaced the stator or regulator.
