So, anyone here ever had their oil light come on with a tank full of oil? I'm wondering if it's just an electrical problem, or if this means i'm not getting oil.... Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many 2 strokes are like that....mine is as well. Light does NOT mean you are not getting oil....it is just a level indicator...which is 99% of the time wrong...and light comes on at 1/2 or 1/4 tank of oil. To check for oil flow....start engine...hold it about 1/2 throttle...pull oil line from carb and you should see oil droplets from line.. Only run it this way for 5-10 seconds...as engine needs oil..

Thanks carasdad! I'm new to 2t engines, and some of the things i've read have left me a little spooked about the reliability of my oil pump, and this evening when i saw the light, i immediately started thinking that my engine wasn't getting oil. Thanks so much for the tip! Ans just out of curiosity, do you rely on the oil pump, or do you pre-mix? I don't think my oil pump is throttle driven, or maybe i just can't see where the throttle cable splits off. Any opinion on oil pumps?

Mine does it at times after refilling which is nuts . What I do is top of the oil when I get gas that way I can monitor the level is going down like it should be . I even put a splash of 2T oil in the gas to be safe

Trust me if you were not getting oil, your engine would seize rather soon into riding it. I changed the oil in my bike from the cheap lawnmower stuff to synthetic oil and accidentally bent the line cutting off oil. After about a mile my engine locked up on me, making my bike die. Luckily I was able to fix the line and kickstart the engine HARD and it unseized the engine.

My oil pump quit last year without my knowing. Ended up having to do a top end replacement as a result. I pre mix only now, and my oil light stays on even though there's still oil in the tank.
Probably a good idea to monitor the usage as someone mentioned above. Wouldn've saved me some $$ if I had done that.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm on the fence still about pre mixing, or just trusting the pump, seems like pre mixing is the safest bet though. I got the scoot with 380 miles on it, so I'm hoping that everything is still pretty solid. I took off my carb today, and there was a little oil in there, an a bit on/in the nipple when i pulled the oil line off, so it seems to be getting oil at the moment. Thanks again everyone!

Currently I premix as my Chinese Cheapo pump failed....engine soft seized 3 times....locked up the 4th. So I rebuilt it with a 70cc kit. Your oil pump is cable operated via a split off from your throttle cable. Most toss out the Chinese junk one...and replace with a Miknuni..which is what the cheapie is a clone of. Never seen a Mikuni pump fail...but they cost 50 bucks... Still it is worth more than ruining an engine...

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the Mikuni pump. I guess it never hurts to replace those Chinese parts before they fail.
