"All The (protective) Gear All The Time".......sounds nice. But almost nobody does it. Try wearing the maximum protection in 90+ temperatures in the blazing summer sun, which is when most 2-wheelers are ridden. No matter how much you can stand, somebody will criticize your gear, finding fault somewhere. Here's a Joe Rocket fully armored, mesh jacket. It can be worn up to 90 degrees or so, with only minor discomfort. But it's useless in the rain, and very uncomfortable (cold) at anything much below 60 degrees (even with the liner in place). Pull on a rain jacket over this sort of armored jacket in the summer.....you'll regret it, and sweat like Hell. Waiting for criticism.......

Too many ATGATT proponents are overly critical of anything less. Me, I'm "All The Gear Most of the Time, Almost All the Rest of the Time". I always wear a jacket, boots, gloves, and helmet, as well as jeans at minimum. But I often wear a 3/4 helmet in summer, and usually don' t put on the armored pants over my jeans when I go out to lunch or for a quick errand.
Don't make good the enemy of best.

No criticism! As stated, it's pretty tough to wear everything all the time, but I will say that I've gotten used to wearing a jacket, at least jeans (I have kevlar fabric lined jeans), GLOVES, and my modular fullface helmet 98% of the time - even on the 100 degree summer days here in Houston. I do zip around our sub-division (only one way in and out and 1 mile around - pretty low traffic volume) and run to the PO sometimes without some. I have however found myself uncomfortable (not feeling very secure) without my FF helmet (I really tried to get used to a 3/4 this past summer, but just couldn't), gloves and jacket and it's too dang sunny to wear shorts - NASTY sunburn (ask me how I know). I wear it because you never know when you're going to need it. In all my years I've learned that whenever you intentionally don't have something, you end up needing it. ATGMTT is most likely right for most people.

I wear the Joe Rocket riding jacket, kneepads, leather gloves and FF helmet all the time, no exceptions. In the winter I might add in my Frank Lewis riding pants. I spout ATGATT but I also live in south Louisiana, where I almost passed out one day at a stop light wearing all the gear. Never again.

Summers up to about 105 here. 3/4 helmet and goggles, mesh jacket with High-Viz vest, jeans and fingerless gloves most of the time. In winter the gear gets warmer.
I won't lie sometimes it just T-shirt, shorts, Helmet and fingerless gloves
