Hi guys! Just checking in with 2,600 miles on the scooter (trouble free). Got my headlight modulator installed Friday, and it's kind of cool. My impression is that oncoming vehicles react slightly differently, but that could be wishful thinking (still gotta be suspicious of anything with four wheels).

OK - the scoot has become my preferred means of transportation. I admit it.. Dr. Mom now asks of I'm taking it when I go somewhere. Running up to campus and the store aren't as much fun as open road riding so I'm sneaking in some longer rides. Amazingly we've had 3 nice Sundays in a row - wow! I already posted about 1 of them so here's the other 2. Last Sunday. I took a break from prepping for the start of classes and took a ride. I left my place, ran up through the Galleria (early before the homicidal cagers were out). Weather was perfect - sunny, not hot. I went out past our airport on "Airport Road" - good road with curves and straights but a little bumpy. I picked up PA 53 to South Fork - again ok road but bumpy. From there I jumped on PA 869 to the little town of St. Michael. From there I rode up to the 1889 Johnstown Flood Memorial. Nice road but the speed limit thru the various parks is 15 and that's a little tough in terms of curves and handling speed. Got up to the Memorial and took a couple pix, talked with some folks from down near Philly. I called Dr. Mom to tell her I was headed back home. She suggested that I try US 219. It always seems a little strange when she encourages me to ride the super slab. She's either gained a lot of confidence or maybe I shouldn't have told her how much she gets if I croak off. Anyhow, I gave in to temptation and took 219. It was kind of fun to see the cagers when I was doing 70 going up the 3 mile hill on a scooter. I held to that because the windscreen was vibrating at that speed. I slowed down when the limit dropped from 65 to 55 because the troopers like to hide in the trees in the median strip. Got off at the Galleria exit and headed home. 24 mile trip. At the faculty meeting the other night, I was talking bikes with an old grad school carpool buddy who's with the Math dept. He said give him a call sometime and we'd ride. Yesterday morning was nice and I called him and said I was going for a ride and would he be home. He said come on over. I left at 10. Rode thru town and across the valley to the other hill. Got to his place and he said "let's ride" but he needed to pick up another bike. We went to his "barn" near Davidsville and picked up his old Honda Custom 250. He was being charitable and matching engine sizes. We went back into Davidsville and took back roads (lots of hills and curves) thru a little town called Seanor, crossed the Stony Creek River and rode on to the town of Windber. From there we road different back roads to PA 403 near Davidsville. At that point we split up. The weather was getting threatening and I needed to cut the grass. Headed for home. Had a great time and ride. I didn't set the trip but based on the odometer, it added up to about 50 miles. We'll try to get out again as schedules permit. Pix are from the 1889 Flood Memorial.

Is there any difference in the Hyosung MS3 and the United Motors Xpeed as far as registering? Would it be more difficult to register the Hyosung in the USA than the United Motors? I might be able to get a 2008 model at a really good price, but wouldn't want to buy it if I would end up having problems registering it. The dealer is in the USA and it is supposed to have a clear title, so I wouldn't think there should be a problem. I had never heard of these scooters before reading this thread.

Well, I thought I might be able to get a good deal. Anyone know how eBay works. There was an action for a Hyosung MS3 which wasn't supposed to end until tomorrow, about another 24 hours from now. But I just got an email from Ebay that my bid was cancelled. Went to eBay and it now says that bidding has ended on this item. I have never bid on Ebay before, so don't really understand how it works for sure. But the seller had a 100% rating with eBay. Can they just cancel the auction if they aren't getting what they expected for bids?

After searching this sellers other listings on eBay, it looks like he cancelled this auction and started another one, with a buy it now price of $2799. The other auction had no reserve so thought I might be able to get lucky and get it really cheap, guess I should have known better.

They both have the same vin# prefixes. The only difference between the two bikes is the logo's. So given a clean Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin you should have no problems registering...of course pay with a credit card as you have some recourse in the event the paper work isn't right. On Ebay the seller can set an invisible minimum bid. IMHO $2799 for a new Xpeed/MS3 is a good price.

I agree that $2799 is a good price, when the retail value new on a 2008 was $4300. I just don't have that much money to spend right now and was hoping to get it a little cheaper with the other auction. Oh well, guess I'll keep enjoying the scooter I currently have for a while longer.

I just came across a Hyosung MS3 125, says it has 13 hp. That is quite a bit of horsepower for a 125. Anyone know anything about these? Most of the sites are UK sites though, so don't know if it is even available in the USA.

New one at $1875, that'd be a steal of a deal for sure, unless the shipping was outragious. I guess it is all about timing and patience, last summer you'd pay full price. Now you can get scooters for a song it seems.

Wayne - good price. Other than the UM logo and Xpeed 250i chrome things, everything on mine including the key is marked "Hyosung". Good luck!

Astroprof, +1 for the rainbow, that stream looks a lot like the Westfield river in w.ma.

Flyangler. Thanks for the bone. Do I get more for more fish pictures? I 've got plenty? It is pretty water, mainly riffles but some pockets. Good flyfishing just upstream from the bridge. There's a big reservoir upstream on a major feeder. I've seen 10 lb browns out of there and some beautiful brookies spawning.

Most of the sites are UK sites though, so don't know if it is even available in the USA. Pretty close to the same bike...just smaller engine. They share a common service. The UK has tiered licenses...a 125cc is the max on the lowest tier. So they see a lot of 125cc class bikes we never see.

At that price, for those living somewhat close even in the Seattle area, you could take a long weekend, fly there, and ride it back. Would be a good adventure, and you get a scooter in the process. Some of these prices are almost unbelieveable. From $4500 or so last year to $2500 now, at those kind of prices, may put the Chinese drop-shippers outta business. Almost silly not to spend the extra few hundred dollars and get this versus a crated scooter.

I would love to buy one of these, but just bought a new scooter this year and so don't have the money in the budget for another scooter. At this price, I might have to think hard about it. Would have to pay for shipping, too far away. The weather isn't helping to convince me to buy it though. Supposed to rain all week and be cool this weekend. Has been a much cooler than normal summer this year here. The biggest reason that is keeping me from buying it, is if something were to go wrong with it and I couldn't fix it, I don't know if I could find ayone around here to even look at it.

Harry, in all of the descriptions I have seen for this scooter, it shows a 13" front tire and a 14" rear tire. But in your first post on this thread, you said you have 13" tires front and rear. Just wondering if that was a typo or if you do have a 13" rear tire.

Well, I couldn't resist the price and bought the Hyosung on eBay. Only have a Class L license, so will have to study for the motorcycle test again. Is the break in on these similar to the 150's, or what would you guys recommend for breaking it in?

Wow Wayne - congrats and welcome to our world! Hopefully you'll get the owner's manual with it. It spells out the break-in. It's also a riot to read. The Korean/English translation didn't go well. There's a table of what needs done when in the manual. The first major point is at 600 miles with oil change and checks. If I remember right, Harry gives a pretty good description of how to do it earlier in the forum. Are there any Hyosung/United Motors B&M dealers near you? Mine's only 10 miles away so it's easy for me to get things but some folks aren't that lucky.
Keep us posted.

Owners manual says no more then 1/2 thottle for 1st 500 miles and no more then 3/4 throttle for first 1,000 miles and to avoid constant speeds. 1/2 throttle will get you up into the 50 MPH range and 3/4 will get you up to the high 60 MPH. Oh yeah...you'll get a 'real' owners manual. Mines 172 pages. Congrats on the purchase.
