its not a vip scooter, the brand i am most familiar with producing it is tao tao, says VIP in huge letters, super motor on the rocker, and other nonsense like future champ a cross the nose the carb will need to be replaced or de plugged and a through pdi. but CE just ran cross town on one, hitting 56mph top speed and cruising a easy 45. hoses and fluids replaced, rejetted carb and a p&p shark tip exhaust. one came with all the stickers on and clear coated over, the other came bare, no stickers, just thrown in the bucket. its much cleaner looking. not a bad scooter motor runs fine, body panel fit leaves a tiny bit to be desired but when he ordered his they were 800 bucks apiece delivered for the 150cc.. 2 front ends to choose from if jesus loves you you can find the no sticker model

I have one. It runs great. I bought on Ebay from dealer. Prices have gone up in recent months. Easilly goes 55mph. Gets about 80 mpg maybe even more if you don't rake the engine from light to light. I would reccomend to everyone this scooter. Its a Tao Tao Powermax 150cc scooter to be exact.

I've got a Taotao, not one of these VIP models, and think they're pretty decent. The VIP models are pretty popular here in Tampa.

VIP is a model by Peace one the common brands of China scooters . I have a Jonway Magnum with the Handsome Boy body like some VIPs with the hand guards in front of the levers .
I had a TaoTao ATM 50 and it was a POS after used to Hondas . I am very happy with my Jonways and Echarm

I had a 50cc one with the same sticker until I peeled them off and painted over the VIP and future champion, I think mine also had something like best scooter on it. The scooter was OK, it is still running last I heard, oh it was a 2005 model.

I bought 2 Taotaos. Her's is the blue/silver powermax 150. Mine is the Cherry red CY-150A like Hotstuff2 owns Only thing I had to do with hers is Dyna-Beads-- Local dealer put them in for $20 a tire-- Smooooooth ride now Oh!! I had to modifty the kick-stand too. it wouldn't hold itself up-- easy fix; just a little grinding on the metal
One of these days I'll get some pix on here on the LED lights on both--- If the cars can't see us now I got coupons for eye exams

I am pretty close to buying a tao tao VIP version. seems to have good reviews, minor problems/issues here and there. no big thing for me. just nervous about the PDI, seems like thats a make or break for the life of the scoot.

Whats PDI? I have had my VIP for 2 months. 800 miles and no problems. It does burn a little oil. I check every fill up and all is well.

PDI = Post Delivery Inspection.
There's a big sticky thread on it.

The 50cc VIP I rented at the beach was a POS. Just from reading here I have seen more people with problems with those things than other Chinese scooters.... I know Chinese scooters all have their problems but I seemed to see a LOT of posts about VIP's that don't run right.

came across a 150 cc JM star for 900 on CL. 100 miles, recently serviced, new battery. thoughts on it? still thinking the tao tao VIP, but this one is closer and able to be picked up rather than drop shipped. any info on the JM star is appreciated. just dont know what this guy did/didnt do to the scoot which may cause problems down the road. pun intended.

I have a Tao Tao Powermax 150 (it is the model labelled VIP here) I love it. Much better quality than most chinese bikes I have rode. Seems people love them or hate them. Maybe there are regional quality issues.

orphansoul, what neck of the woods are you around? and where did you get your tao tao? drop ship or B&M?

I live in North Texas. I have a 2011, I bought it used off of craigslist for 350 from a guy that was moving somewhere where he wouldn't be able to use it much. He gave it to me much cheaper than his asking price because all the other people interested were... interesting people. Lucky me. He bought it from a dinky little scooter pedaler that operates out of a large flee market here. I am familiar with that place, not really a fan.
To answer your question, I think it might as well have been drop shipped. All these guys do is uncrate them and sell them.

very torn on what to buy. dont want to be left with a clunker, but hey, comes with the territory with these chinese scooters. more or less trying to minimize the trouble.

Its always hard to say. I would recommend a Tao Tao, Rocketa, or Jonway 2011 or newer model. Thats just based on my experience though, and the experience of people I know. They seem to have a better success rate than some of the other brands floating around.

I bought mine on EBAY. Good price delivery was easy. Its in a crate on a pallat. Its some wires and bolts. It will take 2 hrs to take out of crate and assemble. Tools are included. I did it myself with no manual. If you are confident and mechanically inclined, nothing will stop you. I have sold two and it gets easier every time to assemble. So buy with confidence.

chrism, did you replace lines, plugs, fluids right out of the crate or go with the stock parts and fluids? and if you went with the stock, how long until you did replace, if you did.

I did not need to replace anything. Everything worked fine. Title arrived 10 days after scoot with bill of sale for titling issues. I would reccomend this VIP to everyone. Its easy to assemble and costs under 875 new on EBAY.

thanks for the info. what dealer did you go through on ebay to get your VIP? or was it a private sale? thanks again for everyone's help

delaware, the title does not come with drop shipped scooters. You wil get a bill of sale and a cert of origin, a document from the importer that the DMV can use to see if it is legal for your state.
The least hassle is to get it from an actual dealer, not a drop shipper. A dealer will give you the title and tags before you leave and you don't have problems at the DMV.

The 4t 50 are loaded with issues and limited power . I would get a 2T instead . A 2T you never have to change the oil as it gets clean oil from the oil tank instead of recycling oil in the crankcase that gets hot and dirty and needs changing , no valves to adjust , run much faster , easier to tune and more fun . My scooter dealer told me Peace scooters all should have the valves checked at the PDI as even from the factory not be set right . Also scooters with 12 or 13 in tires ride and handle way better than those with 10s and have a better selection of premium tires too . I did an image search and found one I posted of mine before I put on the MC tag scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=50240The one I have the front cover was damaged and replacement did not have " Turbo Charged " stickers like this one has 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=genchat&action=print&thread=2765I can pass cars on the road and has a fast take off . The wide 130/60/13s ride like a mini bike and so stable I can ride with no hands on the grips . 2Ts cost more but last longer and more fun the only bad part is having to buy premium 2T oil

Title was mailed to me 10 days with a bill of sale and an actual signature on both. Dealer was Texas Bikes. They have many alias. They ship out of Texas. Scoot comes in a crate strapped to a pallat. Total price shipped to my front door was 875 for 1st and 850 for second. Scoot goes 65mph. Fast. Real fast.

Oh by the way, buying from a dealer, expect to pay 25% mark up. Buy wholesale and assemble yourself. A 14yr old could do it. Cut out the middleman. So going to DMV takes 1 hr. I would save over 400 this way instead of a dealer. Thas getting paid to do it yourself. Tao Tao Powermax 150cc scooter is the best and fastest stock scooter on the market today.
