Just wondering how many of you ride for a reason (scooter is your only transportation, gas prices to high forcing you on two wheels etc), and how many just ride to, well, ride.
This is my second year with my scooter. Last year was an 'intro' year. I rode to work a few times (maybe 4-5 times? It's a 1 hour+, 50 mile one-way ride), and took a few local rides just to get a feel for the scooter and what it is capable of on road. Now I'm in year two, and want to ride more. But I still haven't gotten out of the 'just hop in the car and go' way of transportation. Riding the scoot I need to plan more - what route to take, what time to leave, how to secure the scoot when I get there etc. It just seems easier to 'hop in the car' and go.
So I'm just wondering, why do you all ride, and how did you break out of the car habit and into the scooter one?
Thanks!

I ride because its just fun. And, anyone can ride a 300cc bike, but I like to build my 150 to match or beat that 300.

I ride anywhere I go that I don't have a lot of cargo or any passengers. And when its dry and going-to-be at least 50 degrees I guess its different in a smaller city.

I ride anywhere I can as long as it isn't raining, mostly to save gas, but more importantly, because It's FUN.

Just for fun mostly. To work (30 miles) on Fridays. Use mapquest to plot out a cool ride of fifty or sixty miles for the weekend.or look up the events calendar for nearby counties and check some out. Trips to the store when you just need one or two things. Ever pass a road and wondered where it went? Go find out.

I love to ride, I often find myself making excuses to go to X place just so I get to ride.

I'm about to ride again and undoubtedly reliving my teen years, merely because of a parking situation at my other home where I attend dancing lessons at three different locations and getting to park the car back in front of the home is becoming a painnn, It should be fun to revive back on two wheels but that's equally fine and great meeting scooterdawgs on this forum.

I do most of my scooter driving with a purpose. Occasionally I go just for a ride. Where I live is ideal for a scooter except for the frequent cold and wet. Two things that always end up on my scoot by the end of summer: windshield and rear trunk. My wife calls it my pickup truck because it can carry so much stuff. One of the scooters has a pair of knapsacks fastened to the inside of the legshield. I love the sound of the motor, the way it moves around on the 10" wheels, and the precise way it tracks through curves. Fuel has gotten costly again, so I enjoy a 60 mph (max) machine that gets 80mpg. My scooter is also a connection with my youth. I have been riding this same scooter since 1971.

I love to ride 2 wheels, the truth I grew up riding bicycles. At age 8 I can carry 2 passengers with me amazing how brave I was. When I was in high school I had eraserhead type of bicycle where most of my relatives and friends often asked me if I was a lesbian. ;D I got my scooter last year. I was hesitant at first because of the high prevalence of motorcycle/ scooter accidents here in my area. But as I own the scoot, I can not go anymore to one place without riding it. Even to a short distance I have to drive my 2 wheels...Few months ago I was really scared to drive in highway but now I drive my scoot going to other City. Even I was too weak for few months because of my health condition I still had the courage to drive my little machine. I planned to sell my scoot last time because I was financially broke but until now still with me. I really love my scoot, it makes me lazy to walk but have all the fun driving my white eagle. Sooner or later will send this machine to my brother but I am planning to buy a new one. Just can't stop having one.

I ride for fun all the time also its my only means of transportation...I keep wondering how long it will be before I wear it out..one problem though, my seat is soooo uncomfortable! Does anyone else have this problem? and if you do, what did you do to make it better? I have a Tank touring 150.

That's a great helpful accessory indeed though its going to be unsuitable with scooters unless again, it serves for other purposes such as this>>>> It could add as well, if two large cup-size holes are drilled through on either side of the flap, it could serve as a coffee cup holder too while cruising and stopping for a break. ;D

So I'm just wondering, why do you all ride, and how did you break out of the car habit and into the scooter one? Thanks! For me it was a combination of things. Saving money, saving the environment...and maybe just a little bit of middle age crisis. I ride to work nearly every day on it (70 miles/113 KM) but don't take it out much for "fun" riding. That is one thing I want to do more of this year. Living in Florida I have a 12 month riding season. The girlfriend and I don't need our two cars and once one of them dies for what ever reason I don't think we will be replacing it. So that would make my ride my main transportation.

I commute to work as much as possible with it (for fun and to save gas) as well as going for a cruise whenever the family gives me a chance.

YES. Its fun, it saves wear and tear on my 1995 Nissan pick up, its fun, great MPG, its fun, I can haul a lot of stuff. Its fun. Its got an ammo can, a bigger than normal crate, horse saddle bags, and I have a backpack. Its fun. I don't like driving my truck for short trips. If I drive it I want to go at least 10 miles to warm up the oil really well so I ride my scooter as much as I can. Being retired I can pick the time I want take a pleasure ride and we have a neighborhood golf course close with nice easy twisty 30 MPH roads.

I've been riding since 1966. I think I've had 13 motorcycles and now 1 scooter! Sometimes it's been my only transportation, other times its been because we were car light, but I always love riding. The Honda Elite 110 is fantastic for commuting and quick runs to the store...I love that little bugger!!

I ride with a reason. I only have a motorcycle license I've never driven a car. I started at sixteen and I'm forty eight now. I've slowed down a bit now, I used to put on about 3,000 miles month. Now its no great thrill just ride anymore , i need a reason or purpose.
Ride safe Bill
