Cool, the ebayer who sold me the handlebars was out of stock on the black handlebars so he called me on the phone last night (while I was assembling the bike) to inform me. Since he has the bare aluminum in stock he agreed to outfit them with a new twist throttle, grips, and brake lever as per the auction I won. Very excited now as this will look even cooler than the black. He is a pic of the aluminum handlebars:

Very cool man.... lookin at the bike does make ya wanna RIDE!!! Green wheelies!!! I am so jealous of those PIRELLIS....killer. I also like the look of the -swingarm. CLEAN wondering about the wiring photo....are those ground wires? Looks like a really over the top tuning scooter. Unfotunately I have to have my bike stripped becuse the purple layer on the powder coat could not resist gasoline. Yes I am really set back by this. I guess the candy color is more show than go but I have an idea for a color scheme that I think I will like better anyway. another couple weeks before I get it together. what a drag. Your scooter however is off the chain! enjoy

@shook - yes those are fancy grouding wires. One to the engine, one to the engine mount (contains all the electronics) and the others go to the wire harness for the LED's and stuff. Gotta have good matched grounds, as i like to avoid ground loop issues ) Anywas, thx for the great comments guys, I appriciate it, honestly I've had just as much fun building it to my own style. So I finished fabricating the front spacer to get rid of the speedo cable and rotation contraption. I know it's small, but even that dial and cable had some rolling resistance - not anymore Also** I have a new fabricated part in the works!! A saftey product. It's going to be an aluminum plate that "locks" the rear axle nut in place. Its going to have a cutout that fits tightly over the nut holding it in place, than have small ears the side that will use the 3 mounting holes (previously for the rear brake disk rotor) to hold it in place. No more loose axle nut once that part is in place **stay tuned** Got more done on the exhaust, it's not welded yet but you can see how it will look and fit. I will grab a pic of the inside to show the baffle. I will end up tuning the baffle plate after I start riding/running it. I'm also thinking about wrapping this entire exhaust in black header wrap, I think it would look insanely custom and add a bit of a performance edge. I'm happy with this so far, very light, very easy to remove/install, and very simple and sleek looking. It also keeps the rear wheel clear as intended. A sneak peak of my custom L.E.D. tail - 16 super flux L.E.D. lamps all pointing directly rearward at the lens, no reflector, I painted it black from the inside. So yeah 6 on running, 16 on brake Honestly, it's so bright it'll be very VERY hard to miss!

Unbelievable SWEET scoot! And I never even liked green until I saw your ride!
Any chance of getting that lime-green to stick to the nylon (?) cooling fan? It would carry the color theme nicely right through the engine area, and key off the wheels.
GREAT scoot, if it runs like it looks, you'll be one FAST scooter-jockey!
Please keep the pix coming. They're an inspiration to all of us!

I'm also thinking about wrapping this entire exhaust in black header wrap, I think it would look insanely custom and add a bit of a performance edge. Ever used header wrap before? It's quite a different platform, but I wrapped my headers to try and reduce under hood temps a little on my car. It did mostly nothing for me. It did at least let me get to my spark plugs 5 minutes sooner (when hot) than unwrapped pipes. It didn't look terrible, but I liked the Jet-Hot coated look better and ended up spending the money to re-coat the headers after the header wrap reuined the original Jet-Hot coating. If you install/uninstall the exhaust much it will end up fraying and looking nasty too. Header wrap can also trap moisture inside. Of course it's a small cheap job with that little pipe to fix it up again. Just a little to think about. I think I've used that muffler before, or something extremely similar on small 4 strokes.

After careful consideration, I have decided to ax the header wrap idea. I like the way it looks now, but I may paint it black or polish it out. Time will tell. I'm going to try to get the muffler welded today while I'm out doing errands. I have my fuel tank mounted now so I just need to run the fuel lines and finish the exhaust before I can give fire it up for spring. She has not been fired since October or so.

Hey Gy6 what size tires did you put on? They look wider then stock
|
|
|
Post by gy6rocket on Mar 19, 2009 17:38:02 GMT -5
130/60L - 13 They are the same size as stock, however after getting them mounted they do appear to be wider and a bit taller than the stock Kenda's. Both aspects are fine with me because everything clears and a taller tire will mean a higher top speed! Also the sidewalls on the Pirellis are really, REALLY stiff, maybe like 3x that of the Kenda's. Jackthefuzz was right you could probably still ride these tires on 0 lbs of air! Overall I am very happy with the tire so far, fitment, look, dimensions. I am expecting the ride to be very good also from the reviews and reputation of the tire. I'll let you know when I start spinnin' 'em

GY6, how much to make and mail me one of those exhausts? I need a new one anyway and a trick one like that would be sweet! Did you make the header from scratch? Or scrap it from another one?

Hey Aero, It would actually be kind of expensive for me to make another one since I used the flange and header from my KM racing exhaust. I just made a cut in the header and the new muffler fit into the header near perfect. In order to make another on I would have to get a hold of some mandrel bent tubing and fabricate a flange. The muffler itself was very cheap, I only paid $5.95 for it at ace hardware. It's made for larger lawnmower engines, and has a 1" outlet. I found a really great, local welder, actually only about 1/4 mile from my house hidden in an industrial plaza, called PinPoint Welding. He did a really good job on the welds, not to mention he did it on the spot, in about 10 minutes, and charged me $5 cash. Since I have this good connection I am considering making a few more of these but I want to see how it performs first. Here is the completed exhaust, weighs in at >3lbs. And here is a shot inside the outlet port, you can see it has a baffle welded in place, separating 2 chambers. Each chamber has a bunch of radially drilled holes to allow the gases to pass. I figure the pipe can be tuned to my setup by drilling a very small hole in the baffle, and stepping it up little by little (or should i say louder by louder) but I am hoping it will give good performance as-is. Blowing through the muffler has very little resistance

Yeah those are the same tire's I have. I just got a flat yesterday, I drove home about 5 miles. I put some Green slim in there untill my new tires come. But i was going to get 150/70P-13 But i think that would of been to wide and tall. So i just went with the stock size. But i also went with the Rhino tire. No more Flats!!!!

That's definitely the same mower muffler I used on my cateye with a 4 stroke 114cc 10-12HP engine. I drilled out the baffle a little and it got pretty loud. It really doesn't look like a cheap muffler the way you've got it setup. Mine was just quickly made and ugly. I couldn't really see any power difference from the mower muffler to a "high performance" muffler, so hopefully you'll be pleased with it. Great find on that welder too. Those are some nice looking welds, especially for what he charged you!

Well I put the exhaust on, a very simple procedure compared to the old exhaust Also found some clear fuel line and a slim filter while I was out so I hooked it all up and decided to give her some fuel and a test fire. I grabbed a camera and took a vid, she fired up and purred like I had just parked it from a ride!!!! The exhaust note sounds good, not too loud but not quiet either. I would say it's about the same DB as the KM racing, although it has a much different tone now. No baffle tuning has been done at this point. I gotta say I like it!! I'm really starting to get excited now, as I have not ridden since October and hearing the strada run REALLY makes me want to ride!!!!!!!!!! I have to wait until I get some brakes installed before I ride Good news: new handlebars, twist grip, brake levers will be here Tuesday

Thx Strada. I'm going to take you up on that ride. The carb is almost as loud as the exhaust, you can hear it sucking away in the vid! I have no intake tube at all, just the UNI directly attached to the carb.

Yeah I'm waiting on my tires to come that slim stuff didn't hold up. I also had to put my carb back to stock location, Because I'm waiting for my new intake manifold. I had a guy weld a piece on to the intake so i could mount the carb right on it. Well the guy that did it moved the location of it so when i got it home and tried to mount it the carb wouldn't fit.. So Im hoping the tires will get here soon!!!! But I'm ready for a ride where abouts do you live?
