Mrbraco,
Turn it clockwise until it stops then turn it out 2 1/2 turns. That should get it to start pretty good if everything is good.
Then fine tune it AFTER THE ENGINE IS NICE AND HOT, reason being is when COLD the enricher is feeding it extra fuel and adjusting your air/fuel mixture then will throw it all off.
What you are aiming to do is GET the Highest IDLE possible out of the Air/Fuel Mixture when adjusting it. So if your scoot has a tach it will be much easier IF it does not have a Tach then it will be up to you hearing the IDLE(rpms) go up while you adjust the Air/Fuel Mixture.
ENGINE NICE AND WARM:
A. Turn the Air/Fuel Mixture 1/4 COUNTER CLOCKWISE and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
*** IF ON THE FIRST 1/4 TURN COUNTER CLOCKWISE the IDLE GOES DOWN Then Turn it back the 1/4 turn AND GO TO B.***
1. If the Idle goes up Repeat A above.
a. If the Idle stays the same or appears to go down a little, Turn the Screw back 1/8 half of the 1/4 turn on your last adjustment, go to C.
B. Turn the Air/Fuel Mixture 1/4 CLOCKWISE and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
1. If the Idle goes up Repeat B above.
a. If the Idle stays the same or appears to go down a little, Turn the Screw back 1/8 half of the 1/4 turn on your last adjustment, go to C.
C. Now Adjust your IDLE SPEED SCREW the one with the Spring on the side of the Throttle Cable and get the IDLE DOWN to where your Rear Wheel Just wants to Turn.
Now hopefully all is set, give the Throttle a QUICK Turn and Let go, there should be NO hesitation or bogging the engine should rev up and come back down to the idle you set.
You should get a nice VROOOOOOOOOOMMM.

after trying forever to get this setting right, with 2 full turns it was just impossible to get the idle right.
I ended up making 1 single full turn to get idle stable enough, now i'm riding a mile at the time to get the idle right.
With only 1 turn for a 150cc, will that make it lean? Because it could have been way too rich since the first day i had the scooter.

Some carbs come with bigger Jets so it is hard to tell, but if it runs good with one turn out that is fine. Unless the Enricher is NOT shutting off that will cause you to turn in the Air/Fuel mixture more than usual.
Let me ask a question:
1. When your scoot is COLD like in the Morning and you start it up
a. Does it Idle up automatically around 2000 rpms?
b. As it is running and warming up DOES the Idle drop or does it stay pretty much the same as when you first started it.
What I am trying to find out is if your ENRICHER(CHOKE) is shutting off the extra fuel after it warms up. If NOT then that would be the cause of you having to have the Air/Fuel Mixture turned out only one turn from the closed position.
Now if you live where it is HOT right now like Florida or Arizona that is fine.
But If you live where it is COLD right now then you will run into possible problems when it get s hot. Reason being is When Hot you need less gas and you would have to turn the Air/Fuel mixture even more IN(Leaner). In Cold weather engines require more gas due to the density of the Air and right now you are only out 1 turn.

nope! just took it for a spin, when i give more throttle, it accelerate till "middle range" then a scary loss of power. Couldn't go over 35-40mph when i used to get a good 55mph (yes i am slim). So I told myself "I am giving it more throttle but the ratio screw is not giving enough gas" so i reajusted the mix screw (out 1/8) and it got worst.  do i need valve adjust? The bad thing is that turning screws and running scoot on middle stand gives a totally different result then when i actually ride it! So for every change, i have to go out. |

The idle screw only adjusts the idle, and has virtually no effect once you open the throttle.
Sounds like you have a clogged or improper pilot jet, or a float level problem, or an air leak.

It could be your Diaphgram leaking and not raiseing the needle all the way. Have you checked the Diaphgram for rips or holes and or the Cover not sealing the top of the Diaphgram allowing leaking. Just adjust your Air/Fuel Mixture where it runs the best and leave that alone. There is something else that is causing it to bog down past mid throttle.
If it starts good and idles good even when hot it is not your valves. But you could re-check them set the Intake to .004 and the Exhaust to .005.
Now when you say Scarey what actually happens, different symptoms mean different things.
When it bogs or whatever can you back off the Throttle a little not a lot about a 1/4 inch or so does it settle down and pick up again or how does it act.

Electrically ... it could be the capacitors in you CDI are getting old and tired...they will take charge up to a point and after that they crap out...
The engine will run great to a certain RPM and then it flat lines...

Well, now i got the idle perfect, but the throttle is mad..
The carb is OK, diaphragm is ok, I will try to take a video shot of my valves, I know it is not tight and i can easily move the intake "valve pusher" a little with one finger, so it might be it.
For a newbie like me, it's hard to aprehend when a few millimeters off could have so big impact on overhaul performance..
Anyway, now i wait for the morning.

Like I said, i got the video of my valves. Happens to have a .007 for intake!!! i don't know for the exhaust as i didn't want to take the bottom out. QUESTION: Do I need valve adjustment ? Electrically ... it could be the capacitors in you CDI are getting old and tired...they will take charge up to a point and after that they crap out... If you are exactly at TDC then BOTH rocker arms should move a bit.
.007 is too large for the intake valve... it should be .004"
The exhaust should be set to .005"
Looks to me like your exhaust valve is way too tight...
