Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. Im the proud new owner of a Jonway Redstreak Eco 50. I bought it from ScooterTronics, mostly because theyre relatively local (about 30 miles) and I read some good things about them on this forum. I've had it for just over two weeks now and really loving it. I owned a moped back in the seventies which I sold when I got my drivers license. (Yes, back in the Dark Ages you didn't need a license to drive one!) Anyway, now almost 30 years later, I'm a working mother of two and finally back on two wheels. I work in downtown Washington and got really tired of paying $4.75/day to park at the Metro - not to mention the cost of gas. So, I bit the bullet and now I'm scooting the two miles each way to the Metro station. I'm really loving tallying up the money I've saved every day. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but luckily my husband is and we've been working on it together. So far I've changed the engine and gear oil, put in a high quality spark plug, know how to adjust the idle, installed a new removable trunk and I've changed out the mirrors since I couldn't seem to get the ones that came with it to see anything other than my shoulder or my feet. Glad to be aboard. I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions and look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Rani, I'm new to scooting to. Right now I'm in the looking/purchasing phase. I used to do the commute from Bowie to Rockville so I know what you mean about the cost. Right now I'm looking to get a 150cc or 250cc scooter because my commute is about 50miles roundtrip. So I'm going to have to get a motorcycle license before I can get one . How's the commute? Are you having any problems with traffic? jeffpa

Hi Jeff. Bowie to Rockville is quite a haul! So far, so good. The mornings are better because I leave early and the road has a bike lane. No problems at all. The ride home is a little scarier because there's more traffic and I have to come down a main road in order to avoid having to cut across two lanes of traffic to make a left hand turn. I've had a couple of jerks try to tailgate me - even though there was noone in the other two lanes. I don't understand people at all. Fortunately, I only need to be on it for about a half mile before I can cut off and go through the neighborhoods. It's fun. And just about every day I get someone asking questions as I'm unlocking it at the Metro. There's now three of us at the station every morning. I suspect there are going to be more. Good luck in your search. 50 miles is a long commute! If I had to go much further than I do, I think I'd still be in my car.

Hi Rani, Sorry to hear about the idiots tailgaiting you. That is what I fear in scootering the "Other idiots on the road. " But there is much you can do about them except keep your eyes out looking for them. I'm glad to hear that your having fun scootering and I agree with you that we will be seeing alot more scooters out there as gas prices continue to rise. In fact, several people in scooters shops were stating that they've been seeing a booming business recently. I'm still in the looking stages for a scooter. I'm currently trying to get info on a Lambretta UNO and a Xingyue ITA both 150cc. I'd prefer to get a 250cc because of the distance and a couple of hills on my commute but I think that they are out of my price range currently. My wife, who was ok with this to begin with, is having second thoughts and wants me to consider a motorcycle (or better yet drop the whole idea ) because a couple of people told her they were safer due to their bigger wheels. Anything you can say to help argue my case would be appreciated. ;D Good luck and happy scootering, Jeff
