Hi All,
I have caught the bug! Like many others that are looking at scooters, I am looking for a scooter to use for my daily commute to work. My commute is about 30 miles round trip on city streets. The streets are not too congested. Normal suburban area rush hour traffic. My vitals are 6 foot, 210 lbs.
I have been looking at 150 cc and 250 cc models. When I first started my search I was looking at the models from Honda, Yamaha, Kymco, etc. But they were all $3,500 and over. I am very hesitant to spend that much money on a scooter as this will be my first ever scooter. Never ridden one before. I have no idea about anything.
I started looking at the Lance, Tank, United Motors brands. I saw a Lane Duke Touring 150cc at the store the other day and it looked very nice. While doing some research I came across another forum and all there was there was "help" posts or "how do I fix posts". So again I have started to become hesitant on pulling a trigger on one of these brands.
I have one store near me that carries the UM brand. They are probably one of the biggest bike dealers in Sacramento. They carry all the major names in scooters, bikes, and Harleys. There is also a mom and pops authorized Tank dealer in town who carry Tank and Lance scooters.
My big question is how dependable the Lance and Tank brands are? Would I be dumping more money into repairs than what I paid for the bike? Or would these be okay first timers.
So far this forum has been a great source of info. Thanks all!

Welcome to the group! As a new scooterist your best friend regardless of brand will be a reputable local dealer. UM makes a decent product. You can't go wrong with any of the big name scoots but you are right they are pricey. Since you are in CA take a look at Fly Scooters as well. They only sell through dealers and I have been impressed with them as a company.
