Hi, all. My name is Brandon. I'm from Eunice Louisiana. 32 year old Computer Technician by trade, but only because it pays good or because I'm good at it, or both, or something.
My first experience with bikes started in high school. I got my license when I was 14 (lived on a farm) and went to school about 15 miles from my home. Grandpa loaned me a car ('78 Bonneville) to go back and forth to school in but dad thought I was having too much fun with it and took it away, his brother (my uncle) loaned me his bike to go to school on for a few months ('87 Honda Goldwing). Yeah, I learned how to ride on a goldwing, and only laid it down once, at school in a gravel parking lot, and got it back up with the help of 3 friends. Only had the goldwing for about 3 months before dad found out and went ballistic, took it away, and landed me in a old beat up '69 GMC. Drove that truck from 1990 till 1997 and am thankful to this day for it, I learned auto repair on the side of the road changing points with a feeler gauge.
Anyway, I've always missed that bike, but never could afford one. A couple years ago I went looking to see what was out there for a reasonable price, and found Chinese scooters. I surfed the web a bit and found some very reasonable prices, and went to a few dealers in my area and got some pamphlets and kept looking and saving. I ran afoul of the IRS this year and ended up having to take out a loan to pay them off, and on a whim, took out a little more and finally went out and bought one.
Say hello to the "Gremlin" '06 Vento Phantom R4i 150cc
I bought it used, a year old, with only 500 miles on it, for half the original MSRP. And I consider that a very good deal. I've had it for a month, and have doubled the mileage on it. I weigh close to 250 and it'll only do about 50 MPH but it gets around 90 MPG, so I'm using it as my primary work vehicle. I've changed the oil and plug, and swapped out the fuel lines.
I am lurking around here and collecting information on mods, since it will only do 50, and some of the roads around here go 65, I want more, but not much more as I will graduate from it to a bigger one soon, I will probably keep it for my wife to learn on. I plan on changing the variator and weights very soon, and a Big Bore kit soon after, and will probably top that off with different final drive gears and swapping out the rear wheel assy for one with a disc brake.
Anyway, hello all, and nice to meet'cha.
