I know we've all broached the subject a few times of more and more people taking to scoots as a major form of transportation. I'm not sure how many of the dawgs are from my area but I have seen a roughly 500% Increase of scoots on the road here since last summer and seems to me they all have the same problems. I went for a ride on my bike (not scoot its my wifes ride now) this morning and passed a group of four vespas leaving the dealership all wearing shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops, and half helmets (Virginia helmet law still applies). They stopped at a gas station down the road(eight lane divided highway) and I pulled in next to them. I killed my engine and started to talk to the guys about riding. Turns out they all decided to buy them due to high gas prices and were college students. I talked to them fro a bit about defensive riding on our roads in the area and about proper gear. It turns out the dealer (a car lot that just started selling scoots) told them since it was a scoot other gear that the dealer didn't sell was pointless! After a little explaining and telling them about my accident I got them to follow me to my local bike shop and showed them some good inexpensive riding gear and introduced them to my parts guy I get all my gear from. Now that I'm done ranting I'll get to my point and ask that everyone else do what they do best around here and offer some advice to these new scooterists out on the roads and watch out for them if you can(even if their on a vespa).
Thanks
John
