Hey All,
I'm new to scooters (and gas powered two-wheelers all together ;D ) and I'm budgeting for gear.
Am I crazy for trying to get a helmet for between $50-$80 dollars?

Posted something similar to this on the other thread - What is the quality of the EXL helmet? I know the cheaper cost but does that make the helmet itself that inferior?

I just got, month ago maybe, a Z1R half helmet that's pretty nice for about $50 and it's DOT approved and has decent reviews. Fits under the seat. My 3/4 or full faced helmets won't fit there.

Great info and resources!! Thanks! ;D I'm looking at som 3/4 Bell helmets which seem reasonably priced. Anyone know of any Bell reviews? Also, has anyone purchased from www.leatherup.com?

Haven't ordered from them...yet (have stuff waiting in the cart, just waiting for some $$) Check out the thread accessories (might be in all caps, I forget) Make sure when you use the search option you change from "posts" to "threads" and go back about a week. I bookmarked most of the site links on that thread. Have fun!

No problem ordering online assuming you've already tried one on at a dealer and know it fits, every helmet companies helmets fit a little different. Bill H.

I've got a half-helmet (I guess). It only comes down to my ears and doesn't have a visor. But I find that I also need goggles to rebuff the wind, otherwise, I'm squinting and dirt is flying into my eyes, making them water. So you might want to add a pair of goggles or heavy shades (some that won't blow off your face if you turn your head) into your costs.

The key is DOT approval sticker. A Snell sticker makes it even better. Best to try on a few before deciding. The fit can vary and is very important. Tom
