I purchased an x-treme XM-50 a few months back from getscooters.com, an x-treme dealer/importer. The actual importer goes under the name "Alpha Products International".
I am very satisfied with my purchase. The total came to just $600. I saved $275 since I was able to pick up the XM-50 from their warehouse in central IA, only an hour from my house.
If you do a search on my name in the forums, you will see all of the problems I have had with the scoot from the beginning. Because of the low price I went into it knowing there would be minor problems, and somewhat excited to learn about how to fix these problems myself. I think if more people went into a Chinese scooter purchase with the same attitude, the BBB ratings of these companies would be much better. I mean, I got a gas powered vehicle for $600.. You can barely get a good lawn mower for that price.
Some examples of problems included: the gas guage didn't work, problems with electrical wiring, floor mat keeps falling off, etc. The biggest annoyance was that it took a few weeks to get the MCO (would have been sooner, but they forgot to fill out part of it.)
I am a software engineer and have absolutely no experience with auto mechanics, yet for the most part, everyone on this message board was able to help me diagnose and fix 90% of the problems. The other 10% (like missing/broken parts, manuals, etc), were handled by the manufacturer. Xtreme has a nice web interface for support:

I usually get a human to respond to me within a couple days. For missing/broken parts, they just ask you to send them pictures so they can order you the right part (I'm guessing a picture is worth a thousand words, especially if you are dealing with Chinese words).
All things considered, for a moped that goes 40mph, gets 80-100mpg, and practically runs out of the box after a few minor fixes is a steal at $600.
