Hello everyone! After throwing more and more of my money into my car's gas tank with an ever growing sickening feeling in my stomach, I finally decided to do something about it and purchased a Lance GS-R 150 scooter from Extremescooters.biz. I just ordered it last night, so I'm still waiting for it to arrive, one thing I've been worrying about though is properly breaking in the engine. While doing some research, I came across Motoman's article on Break in Secrets. I'm curious to know how many people here have used this method to break in their engines and how well it's worked for them. From my understanding, I need to basically run the heck out of the scooter for the first 20 miles, making sure to put a lot of stress on the engine. After that, I need to change to oil and use NON-synthetic oil and drive it regularly until I've logged about 1,500 miles. Does this seem about right? He wasn't exactly the clearest in his procedure so I just want to make sure I have it down right, this is one thing I don't want to screw up! Oh, and any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Ah, never thought to use 'motoman' for a search item, I was only typing in 'breaking in'. Thanks, that helps a lot, looks like I'll just be keeping to the manufacturers recommendations which means a lot of slow driving:(

I've got a little bitty scoot, but I'm pretty convinced you need to break it in like you're gonna drive it normally. I'm waiting till I've got around 300 to 500 on the odometer to do some derestricting, but right now I do WOT for small bits of time. I think the key is to not drive full blast for more than a few minutes here and there. My scoot feels stronger every time I drive it; just around 225 kilos so far.

Thanks for your replies, I think I'm just going to run it normally and just remember to change the oil frequently with non-synthetic oil for the first thousand miles or so. So an update on the scooter, I contacted the site (extremescooters.biz) last Friday to check up on the status of the order, they told me that they were performing the Pre-Delivery Inspection today then sending it out tomorrow. THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME!! I'm so anxious to finally get it out on the road and ride! I guess I just need to try and be patient, unfortunately patience is not one of my stronger virtues.

High, Eye'm Gnu-Bee as well. We purchased our "his and hers" Achilles 150's from a local dealer... They recommended "not over 30 mph" for the first 300 miles, then oil change for "run in", We're using the scoots for commuting to and from work which intails some sections of 40 - 45 mph roads, bean taking it "easy" and easing up to speed on those roads, and not "hot dogging" it, then relaxing back to 25 -30 on the side streets... Good luck with yours... (we're still on the scooter honeymoon)
