Since they say that the majority of motorcycle/motor scooter accidents occur at intersections, perhaps we should take a glimse at ALL the ways in which we can protect ourselves if an accident does occur. Let's say you a tooling along through an intersection with the green light in your direction and some dumb blonde runs the red light and you are carted off in the ambulance. The blonde gets out and runs her version by the police, knowing her husband will kick her butt if she does not get it right. She says the light was green in her direction, that you were the culprit, blah, blah. If there were any witnesses behind you, they may have vamoosed not wanting to be involved, or, maybe there were not any witnesses? If you are not killed and are seriously injured, you are going to need bucks in a bigtime way while you are laid up. More and more witnesses to accidents are just driving off because in today's society no one "shivs a git" about anyone else. In surfing the web yesterday I came upon this little device which I feel could effectively be made a part of all automobiles, motorcycles and scooters. Take a look if you wish. Here is the hyperlink.

As you can see it costs seventy some buckaroos. If I were ordering one I would NOT buy the 2 GB card they recommend at $99.00, but would get a high speed card at Circuit City or elsewhere, for $19.99. If you visit the site you can see that the pictures it takes are clear. The range of vision would well include the color of the red light "you allegedly ran". Everyone who knows anything about law enforcement knows that in a fatality or a serious accident the whole area is roped off and the police search for any and all clues. Your little device would be found maybe ninety percent of the time.
I view this little device this way. When you are down and hurt you need everything working for you you can possibly get. You need a good tort attorney and they like to work with hard evidence. Don't forget also, that if you were actually in the wrong in an accident, this little device could work as much against you as it could for you.
I do not own the above site, nor am I in anyway associated with it other than a basic interest in scooter safety. I am going to order one. What are your ideas about this little device? Yes, I know it can be demolished in an accident and be worthless as a result, yes I know that some humanoids would get it and just be too lazy to turn it on every time they ride. Yes, we can find fault with everything. And, genuinely, as our economy continues to fail us, seventy bucks is a lot of money to some of us. Thanks. Joe
