Ok, so a few weeks ago we had a couple of bad storms in my area. I decided to move my scoot around to the back porch for a little shelter. As I was riding it to the back, I hit a spot of mud and started to slide. Well, I grabbed a handfull of front brake, and out goes the front end to the left, and I roll to the right. It happened at 5 or so mph. I somehow think enough not to stick my hand out in front of me for fear of snapping a wrist. Instead I drop my shoulder and roll once or twice. I was ok, and so was the scooter, maybe a little dirty, but fine otherwise.
My problem is that this has gotten me so nervouse of my tires slipping when im on the road that i feel like I tense up. What can I do to get out of this funk. I KNOW the reason I dropped it was due to mud or wet grass, and it shouldnt do the same on the road, but I cant get it out of my head.
HELP!!

Just try it a little at a time to get a feel for it. Always be aware of the surface conditions when braking with the front brake. Grdually build your confidence in it because some time in the future you are going to need it.

Take it to a big empty parking lot and practice maneuvers. Figure eights, uturns, braking, cornering(riding around blocks of marked spaces). It'll build your confidence back up. Then go ride, remembering to watch the road surface ahead for oil, sand, gravel holes, etc, as well as watching out for stupid drivers.

You need to learn to use the brakes correctly and instinctively. I suggest you sign up for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation riders course. It will probably gain you a discount on your insurance and it is well worth the experience. They are taught at your local community college and there are 3 levels of courses to take. Start with the beginner's course and it will give you the fundamentals. I still take the advance course every few years after over 35 years of riding. Stan gave you the best advise, now go for it. You absolutely CANNOT have fear while riding, it'll make you have poor judgement reactions. You have to respect the cycle and what it can do, not fear it.
As my father told me when I was a child who just took a turn and skidded on sand in the road, "Go try it again, and this time, do it right". You have to get right back on it and learn it's tollerances.
I have always found that almost all skids can be controlled by not having any force. Sort of like when you cross a RR track. You don't brake or accelerate...
