Hi Wildbill,
No, a waitress from the cafe on the corner (where I eat lunch) saw it and ran out into the intersection to see if she could get it, but the woman sped away pretty quickly. She knew what she had done and wanted to get away.
I did however, get a good look at her shocked face staring at me and a good description of the SUV, called one of my friends at the Sheriff's office the next day and reported it. Chances are I'll see her again, and if and when I do, she's going to jail!

My probs were all single vehicle. I have no complaints about the cagers yet.
I have gone down twice in the rain. Both times from turning too hard.
I had my KLR 650 seize up on me on the highway in rush hour traffic. The counter-balancer chain snapped, wrapped around the drive shaft and bent it, cracked the crank case, froze up the rear wheel at 50 mph. I skidded to a stop and nearly went over. I am lucky to be alive and uninjured. Sent that freakin' bike off to the salvage yard today. Good riddence. Happy to be back on my scoot.

I have heard that the counterbalancer on that Kawasaki needs a lot of maintenance. You would think they could either use a gear drive or have an automatic tensioner.

KLR riders call the balancer chain tensioner the Doohicky. The Doohicky is considered a weak point in the system and is often replaced while the bike is still new. I bought my bike used, and I did not have a chance to find out if it was sporting the stock or after market Doo.

when i was 13 or 14 i had just traded my honda ct70 for a yamaha razz (literally about 15 minutes before this happened) and was doing some test riding/racing around a parking lot with some friends (one was on a honda passport and the other was on said ct70)...they decided to pull off the "track" while i was still going around and when i realized this i went to try catching up with them and went around the front of the building and hit a patch of ice/loose gravel (it was the middle of january)...scooter slid sideways, i tried to save it but over corrected and it slid back the other way then caught dry pavement and it threw me about 7 feet up int the air and i flew about 15 feet...when i landed, all of my weight came down on my left leg and it folded completely backwards fracturing every bone in my leg, pulling all of the tendons off my knee cap, and shattering the cartilage in my knee....
worst part was on the way to the hospital in the ambulance, the emt cut the leg off of a brand new pair of camo zip-off pants....RIGHT BELOW THE FREAKIN ZIPPER...i was pissed...
o, at the hospital they told me that it was sprained and to go home and take tylenol and told me to get some crutches to help me walk while it got better...made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon a day or 2 later and when he showed us the x-rays it was obvious all of the damage....should have sued the hospital, but it never even crossed my mind...

Well, I got t-boned by a Ranger pickup truck, summer before last. I was on my Vento Phantom and riding on the military base where I work. I was a main thoroughfare, traveling about 30mph. A GI was trying to pull out from the right and intended to make a left turn to travel opposite the direction I was traveling. I watched him look left, look right, and begin to pull out without looking left, (and seeing me) the 2nd time. I hit the brakes, merged left and jumped on the horn button just about the time the driver realized I was passing in front of his bumper. He clamped down hard on his brakes but not before giving my scoot a tap, just behind my right leg. His bumper hit the plastic side panel which crushed in, some and the whole scoot, (and me) got pushed over 6 inches or so.
Luckily I didn't get knocked down but was able to stay upright and stopped safely. Once the adrenalin eased off a bit I quit thinking about killing the young guy. He was totally shaken too, knowing he hit me and was in the wrong. He bought me a new side cover and tailight assembly and everything turned out fine.

My first crash in only my second day of even having my scooter and only the second time I drove it.... I was riding it around my apartment complex (that was a good thing) ---I was just still learning all the ropes (still a virgin)--It was nighttime and my headlights went out of my scooter and I am going up a hill on a curve and the car coming is taking up the middle of the rode but I can tell they cant see me and even tho I am smaller than the car I guess I panicked cause I rode to close to the curveand kind of somehow got stuck to the curve and still riding and just went crashing down. I guess except 4 a pinhole in the gashose, I saved my bike cause it landed on me. I am only 200 yards from my home and didnt make it there so my pride at this time is so wounded I didnt even realize that I was hurt. Thank God that my husband was outside waiting for me to come around and he said later that he knew it was taking too long for me just to come around the apartment complex (That and he knew I still was green). Anyway the bike is on me and I cant get it off of me, I have my cell with me and I had to call him to rescue me. I feel really stupid My pride still hurts and so does my left wrist cause I fractured it in 2 places. This happened last night.

August last year; I expect the unexpected but this caught me a bit off guard... After work, on my way to a side job. Heading east on a major 6-lane divided road (Beach Blvd approaching Southside Blvd for anyone familiar with Jacksonville). I'm in the far right lane, getting ready to turn right onto Southside. Up ahead I see a cage getting ready to pull out from an RV dealership on the right. I expect him to wait till I'm really close and then pull out in front of me (typical behavior around here), so I'm slowing and getting ready to maneuver out of his way. As I get closer, he does pull out... and turns left. Yep, wrong way with him heading west in the eastbound lanes...my lane in particular. OK, I'm heading for the curb, flashing the brights and laying on the horn. He changes lanes to the center lane so now he's heading the wrong way down the middle lane. Didn't see what happened after that since I was at my turn and was on my way down Southside. I didn't panic but was fully expecting to have to put the Burgman into the curb to avoid this idiot. Interesting experience, but not one I'd care to repeat anytime soon.

Hi everyone, I went to buy a video game today. and as I was leaving the parking lot their were 3 cars lined up at the exit in front of me. So, me and my nephew were sitting there waiting for someone to cow prod someone into moving. ANd suddenly BAMMMM!!! a lady backed into my scooter and scared the sh!t out of me. I didn't fall or anything but it was a pretty good sudden bump. She got out of her car and asked if me & my nephew were okay, and we both were. I inspected for damage and their was none, besides a paint scratch about 1.5" long. I told her don't worry about the scratch and she left. But, not before I got her Liscense Plate #, incase I changed my mind. On the trip home I got to thinking that if I backed a Brand New Chrysler 300 into someone's motorcycle that I'm pretty damn sure they'd make an insurance claim. So, when I got home I called my insurance provider and filed a claim they are supposed to call me before 10am tomorrow.

I probally still be shaking up if that had happened to me. Glad to hear that you and your nephew, (and your scoot are okay. You are right, if it had been the other way around someone would have filed a claim against you. I think you did the right thing. I just HAD to toss you a karma for the drawing. ;D

Didn't mean to scare you, Pommom. Besides you know what they say. "If you fall off of a horse just get back on." Or something like that. I still get nervous but I am so hooked on scootering. To me it's like a certain kind of freedom I never felt before. I know that may sound cheesey.

I haven't had any accidents on the Majesty. One sort-of close call. For some reason cage drivers see the Majesty much better than my ZR-7S. Maybe because of the larger frontal area and the fact that the Majesty headlight uses 2 H4 bulbs instead of just one like the ZR-7S.

Well I guess I've been lucky, I've racked up over 10k miles on different scoots and have not yet had an accident involving another driver, many close calls but I am a very tame rider in traffic. I only ride aggressive when traffic is clear in all directions. I rode off road for years and thought that was dangerous until I started riding street. There are some REALLY stupid drivers out there. Anyway, my close call was on my Yamaha razz 50cc back when I was 16 or 17, going down a side street in the middle of the night. I was cruzing about 35 when all of a sudden a huge white possum ran out from under a car into the street right into my path. I didn't even have time to hit the brakes before I "jumped" the poor animal. It was crazy the bike actually came off the ground, and I came down uneven and sloppy, almost wiped but somehow managed to gain control and come to a stop. I looked back and must have broke the possums back as it was screaming and trying to pull itself around with its front legs. My heart was beating 1000x a second and I could not believe I actually rode it out. That was def. the scariest thing ever, just crusing along then without warning a moving "ramp" runs out in front of your scoot. I'm 27 now and I still remember that night. My other good wipeout story is about my buddy Erik. Me and 2 close friends decided to take a road trip to key west while visiting our friend Erik in miami. While there we rented 4 50cc honda elites and rode them all weekend. Being in party mode we were all drinking beer and riding, no advised but we were touring riding about 15 mph. We had a bet to see who would wipe first givin the time tested equation scoot+alcohol=wipeout. Well erik went down right hard, on the key west pier, right in front of a cruiseship that was unloading hundreds of passengers. All witnessed. I don't remember laughing harder in my whole life, but I did feel bad. Apparently, as erik tells it, he lost control of the scoot and was heading directly for couple pushing a baby carriage and knew he was going to jail for a long time if he ran that down. So he voluntarily laid it down sacrificing himself to avoid the collision. It seriously sounded like a 24 pack of empty bottles hitting the ground when he wiped. In any event he got it good, blood everywhere, ruined all his clothes, lost his $300 security deposit on the scooter and looked like an @$$hole doing it all. He was by far the most inexperienced rider of our gang. I have most of this on film somewhere, happened a few years ago, ill see if I can dig it up. MORAL OF THE STORY: don't drink and scoot! Or you'll end up like erik, or worse dead. So far I only have 50 miles on the new strada, and its the fastest scooter I've owned so I am being extra cautious untill I get a good feeling for the bike and how traffic responds to it. Ride safe all!

So, I've been riding my scooter around town for two months now and have already been involved in two accidents. Both of which being a case of the other driver "didn't see me there."
First one goes a little like this... It was a sunny day about a quarter to noon and I was driving to meet my girlfriend for lunch at a restaurant across town. About 3/4 of the way there I came across a construction zone and was slowing down to a crawl. As I get down to about five mph, getting ready to put my foot down at a complete stop, I feel this awkward bump foward. At first I thought I was dead and what I was seeing was heaven. Then I turned around and saw a lady in a minivan behind me with the most horrified face I have ever seen. I then realized that she had hit rear ended me. I was in the left hand side of the lane. There was no setting sun or anything to distort her view of the road. It was simply a case of the driver not paying attention to driving her killing machine.
Second accident happened around three pm. I was pulling into the parking lot at my work and was driving past a parked car when all of the sudden my scooter decided to jump right. I looked over and there happened to be an impala attached to my rear fender. I was astonished with the fact that this lady hit me. Another case of the driver of the cage not paying attention to what was going on around them. If I had been a foot further forward she would have missed me completely and a foot backwards and my knee would have had the paint all over it.
I have been very lucky so far and am hoping that it remains this way. In New Mexico they even have commercials that show motorcycle accidents in an effort to make people pay more attention to their driving. A good campaign, but is it as effective as they had hoped? Let's hope we don't get anymore paint on our scooters that doesn't belong there.

My husband and son have been riding for years and years. My son has been on bikes since he was 3 or so, and he makes it look easy. He is always doing dangerous things and my husband races them for "fun." To me, "fun" is NOT going 165 on a motorcycle. Last year, my son (who is 18), went around a curve too fast, hit gravel and wiped out. He narrowly missed two trees, and thankfully he was only scuffed up. We did have a few worried hours at the ER and the doctor gave him a stern talking-to. But, I digress. I talked hubby into buying me a scooter. I knew I was going to be an extemely safe driver. I never take chances and had no desire to show off, go fast, pop wheelies or do any of the other things that can get you into trouble while riding. I ordered the scooter, waited 2 weeks for them to ship it, and then tracked it all the way across the country. Because I've only ever ridden once, and that was 25 years ago, I let hubby do the testing and breaking in for me. Early on June 1st, he drove the scooter to a Super K-mart parking lot while I followed behind with my pickup. My son and SIL rode their bikes alongside hubby on my scooter so they could watch my "training." I spent maybe 45 minutes practicing. I got more brave, started going a bit faster, up roads, down hills, around curves. I was feeling pretty good about my driving. Finally I told hubby that I was ready to head home and got off the scooter. He said, "You're doing well. Why don't you drive it home. I'll follow you so that cars stay back and you can take your time." The only protective gear I was wearing was a helmet. My plan was to have hubby drive the scoot home, get into proper gear and then head out for a short drive to show my mom my new toy. I should have stuck to that plan. I was wearing a t-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes with no socks. I did well for about 5 miles. I still don't know what happened. I went through about 3 S-turns, and the very last left turn on the very last curve (which was hardly a curve at all), I suddenly realized that I wasn't going to make it. My "narrow miss" was a bunch of mailboxes. Hubby is convinced that had I hit them, I'd have done more damage. As it is, I landed on my left shoulder. I remember my head hitting and I sort of bounced twice. Each time, I wondered if I'd lose consciousness, and I remember thinking, "This is SOOO going to hurt." I didn't lose consciousness. I missed the mailboxes, but landed in a mud puddle. People were coming from everywhere (I was on a country road and don't know where they were all coming from), but hubby was right there asking if I was ok. I manged to get up by myself. Son and Son-in-law pulled their bikes over and rushed to see if I was ok. I told everyone I was. Hubby told me to take the truck home and he'd take the scoot. As soon as I went to step into the truck, my knee went out and I realized I was definitely NOT ok. He rushed me to the emergency room. The boys took care of getting the scooter home, and then came to see how I was doing. I remember for once being the one in the hospital bed and my son looking down at me all worried. I said, "Now you know how I feel." He was really worried about me and later told his dad not to be in a hurry to fix my scoot. I ended up with 3 fractured ribs, a messed up shoulder, road rash down the entire length of my leg, a puncture wound in my ankle, and bruises and scrapes about everywhere else on my left side. Somehow my hands totally survived. I guess I didn't try to catch myself at all. I ended up having to take two weeks off work, and had they not been able to modify my job for me, I'd have been off for 5. Yesterday I asked hubby when he was going to get my scooter fixed. He asked, "Um...you wanted it fixed?" LOL It's been nearly 4 weeks. I think it's time.

I did battle with Left Turn Larry in 1981 and ended up in the hospital for a month and rehab for 6 months. One close call with Left Turn Larry this summer. Went thru the same intersection the next day about the same time and the same idiot had hit a cop car.

oops, I posted my accident on the general discussion board. had an accident today, a cager ran a red light and t-boned me and my lance venice. I got lucky with only badly scrapped knee and leg (I was wearing shorts on the way to the gym) The scooter was drivable but in very bad shape. I was at an off-ramp and it was a three way intersection, Friday afternoon rush hour. The light turned green and I made the mistake of not looking first, and the cager was not familiar and did not see the red light and clipped the left side of the scoot. So basically the scooter was kicked out from under me. Learned my lesson, look first before going on green.

Had a close call yesterday, though it would not have been too tragic (low speed). I had some idiot lady almost knock me over (the idiot was a lady, not that all ladies are idiots, just a few like this one ;D). I pull up to a red light and am waiting for traffic to clear so I can make a right hand turn from my right hand turn lane, I am roughly in the middle of the lane, but slighty to one side (forget which) to avoid the oil strip. The lady TOTALLY IGNORED me and pulled around me, driving in both my lane and the go-straight-only lane next to me, does a quick head-turn (probably didn't really look) at traffic and zips right in front of me!!! I was pretty mad because she didn't even seem to see me on my BRIGHT YELLOW bike, with my BRIGHT YELLOW jacket, helmet and MOHAWK!!! And that she almost took out my front tire as she was turning! More likely she just didn't care that I was there and thought that she was more important in her car.

I have been lucky because in all my riding most cages stay way back from me and I haven't had anyone cut me off. However, if someone ever does anything foolish I'll see if the carbon fiber knuckles wins vs glass window.
