These jacs are on sale at cyclegear.com for $63.99. Ordered Saturday night, delivered Wednesday. You won't find many sizes left in the black color, but other colors have a variety of sizes available.
Comparing prices, these are selling for anywhere between $100 and $150 at other online shops.
This is a mesh textile jacket with cordura nylon reinforcements and removable CE armor on the shoulders, elbows, and back. There are velcro tabs at the waist and wrists, and 2 sets of snaps on the arms for snugging up the fit.
It's well put together and pretty darn comfortable. When you put it on you'll be surprised at how light it feels. I wore it last night and the ventilation is great.
It has a waterproof breathable liner that's easy to zip in or out. The liner will stick to bare skin in hotter weather, but that's not a problem because I wear long sleeve T's underneath.
Pretty soon our temps will be in the 90's and my leather jac is just too much. This is just what I needed; no more excuses for not wearing a jacket!
I got the silver one, wife says it's sexy ;D. Sexy or not, this offers a lot of protection for under 80 bux delivered.

I just got a Fieldsheer MotoBar with CE armor... vented textile with zip out quilted vest, from motorcyclecloseouts.com. $67.88 total incl shipping. I also chose silver, and chose Fieldsheer because it looks as though Fieldsheer and Firstgear are possibly the only companies that make a riding jacket that would fit a short fat guy. I also chose silver... many of the other color combos had too much of a "boy racer" look, and for summer use, black wasn't an option I even considered. It sounds very similiar to the one you got except there is only one set of snaps on each arm for adjusting the fit.. and two would have been better with my short arms.

Dennis, that's a great deal no doubt. You did about $10 better overall than me, probably because of that extra set of snaps. Ya think?
I'm just happy that I found a clearance jac in my size in a good color. Usually the two are mutually exclusive.
Checked out your website (lgs.com). Great reading material there. Nice work.

Thanks! You're probably right, because the newer model Fieldsheer jackets have the double set of snaps like yours does. I felt the same way(lucky) because so many of the jackets on clearance were either black, looked like power rangers jackets, or were very small sizes.

Do the sizes run fairly close to what you normally wear? That is my only worry ordering that way.

tc, I'm about 6'2" and on the thin side. Ordered a 42, which is my normal jacket size and held my breath. So if anything, I'd say they run normal to a little big. Even the sleeves were good for me, and that's rare.
Finding the right color was just dumb luck, but it's nice to get a good deal now and then.

Make sure to read all the sizing information that's posted with the various brands/models. If your stomach isn't at least 4" smaller than your chest, you'll be limited in who you can buy from. The arms seem to run longer than normal sizes, that's not all bad though because it doesn't leave your wrists exposed between cuff and glove, which happens easily if you buy regular leather gloves... at least as good as mesh riding gloves for protection.

So, fat boy fits are doubtful?

Just harder to find. The previous year's model Fieldsheer jackets(what I got) had what they called relaxed fit sizes, which they've done away with this year. And the Firstgear size charts look like they should work... but almost all the others say that they don't make them for people whose stomachs aren't 4" or even 5" smaller than their chests. Here's the link to a Firstgear sizing chart: www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=sizechart

What do the mfgs think, we are all 28 year olds with six-packs riding the rice rockets? A waist four or five inches smaller than your chest? You have to be joking! Hey, somebody needs to stick up for us vertically challenged grandpas out here who don't spend hours at the gym.

I sure ain't 28! Even if you double that number I am on the otherside! lol...as for the six pack...yeah I can fit a case under my scoots seat. I guess the wing qualifies as a rice something or another. As for gyms...I don't mind watching womens volley ball!

I measured, my waist is actually 6 inches smaller than my chest, but nobody would acuse me of being small or having a six pack, just got a big chest.
Don't foreget you have a lower body also, their is protective gear to keep your butt from becoming hamburger and your kneecap from not capping the knee.

Well all this safety talk got me to thinking so I checked out MotorcycleCloseouts and I just ordered the FIRSTGEAR Mesh Tex-2 Jacket RED for $79.88 plus $8.00 shipping. It was cheaper at cyclegear.com but they didn't have women's sizes and most of the men's were sold out. I have boots already because of my work (EMT) I just have to decide on some pants or if good sturdy jeans will be fine. What do you all think? Deb

I'd like to find a basic protective jacket, I am sure if it's cold or wet I can layer other things with it, any thoughts? I live in Omaha, so I am thinking anything within 150 miles from here is a safe trip to buy it... I prefer to buy in person as much as i can...

Well, I received my FIRSTGEAR Mesh Tex-2 Jacket today. I really liked everything about it except one. It is so short. I am long waisted so I have a long back. My husband said it looks like I am wearing a childs jacket, it is so short in the back. I called cyclecloseout and had Mike from their store take a tape measure to some of the jackets. I am sending my Mesh Tex back and getting instead the FieldSheer High Temp Mesh Jacket. It is a little more expensive but it is 4 inches longer and had better body armor. I hope it is as cool as the FirstGear. I took that one outside and you can feel the wind through the mesh, it is nice for the hot days, I'll bet. At $87 the First Gear Mesh Tex is a great deal, if it fits.

Today I got my replacement jacket. I ordered the FieldSheer High Temp in ladies. It was a more expensive jacket $149.00 but it is also 3 season. The zip out lining is quilted and could be worn by itself as a jacket. The overall fit is great and true to the measurement guide they give on the motorcycle closeout website. I am long bodied and this jacket is long enough on my back, even when I am bending forward. It is comfortable and breathes very well. It has CE armor in the shoulders and elbows and back. Plenty of pockets as well. The reflective material shows up very well at night. Here is a picture of my the jacket I ordered. Mine is silver and that is what this says it is but it looks more white in the picture. I would recommend this jacket for any of the ladies on this forum for overall comfort and fit.
