Givin a shout out from Texas. As many others have posted, I too, have been bitten by the Scooter "bug". I've been reading posts here for a while and I must say, this place is fantastic!! Thank you all for great information.
I have purchased my new ride (Silver Pegasus 150) and should have it by the end of the week. Safety course to be taken in a couple of weeks so should be legal by the end of the month. I'll post some pics when I can but I don't expect to be near a PC when I get it.
There are obvious safety issues riding a scooter compared to a car. I've been praising the advantages of this means of tranportation to friends and co-workers but just about all of them have said "You're gonna die on one of those things" or "What the $#%@ are you thinking."
How do you folks deal with all the negativity? At first I was defensive and explained how I have picked a "safer" path to the office and back (8 miles each way, no highway), will be taking the safety course, etc. This is mainly an economical decision but I've ridden in the past and they are such a blast. I appreciate the concern for my safety but do you just ignore them or is there some good response you have for the nay-sayers?
Thanks,

I dunno. My mother-in-law thought it was pretty awesome, on account of gas prices. I haven't spoken to my parents yet, but both of them have motorcycles, so I don't see any negative comments coming out of them they wouldn't eat. Unless they give me crap about getting a 50cc. But yeah, gas prices and parking were my "rational" reasons for getting a scooter. I still haven't gotten enough riding time on it yet, total noob.

Yeah, Her Royal Majesty, Empress of Sicily and heiress-apparent to the Bacciagalupo anchovy fortune, started giving me a load of grief when I decided to take the plunge.
I addressed her fears of loss (our income as opposed to my life) by informing her that had I thought scooters to be the instruments of certain death , I would most certainly have first purchased one for her.
Regards,
BA

Well, responses to the wife and I have been mixed. We usually point out the preparation we made, safety courses, our really extensive riding gear, etc. It isn't the rider always, it's the idiot other guy, and that happens in cages too ya know! Tom

Around town anyway it's no more dangerous than a motorcycle, that fact though may not quiet your doubters. Yes there is more potential risk than a car, you either learn to live with that or you don't. Will you quiet all those that think you're crazy, nope, don't bother to try, won't change their opinions no matter what you say.
Success though is hard to argue with, the longer you ride safely the harder it is to think it's unsafe.

Yeah I am taking some heat too! I think we will all be on the frontside of a huge wave very soon. I think scooters are gonna explode as gas moves $3.00-$4.00-$5.00. Heh heh, we'll see who's laughing then!
