WOW! I'm feelin' the love in here!
When I set out to research this I didn't think this many people would be willing to tally in and give their info. Am I happy to find a place like this.... Heck Yes!
Thanks for the help and keep it coming.
{shescoots } I think I might need to read this book too! If you knew my patience level.... you'd know I need something to keep me busy and away from an impulse buy.
Thanks all!

Yep. Has Anythng you to to know. How to buy, (online dealers too) Inthe back of the book reccomendations and prices, accesories, covers, oil change, saftytips you name it. (almost like some of the Dawgs Got together and put all of their tips. But I do know where you are coming from. I was on pins and needles waiting for mine to be shipped and the book calmed me down and I learned at the same time. Mom, Zap me your addr if you want to and I'll send it to you. Consider it a early Mother's day present or scooter to be gift.

The one thing about the Complete Idiots Guide, however, is it does not speak in depth or highly of China imports all in all. The information and guidance, however, is invaluable. I still read through mine and refer to it often. Tom

?'s everyone !?! I have a "BIG" question looming in my mind afterdoing some more reading here. IS MY WEIGHT GOING TO CHOKE THE LIFE OUTTA THIS SCOOTER AND NOT ALLOW IT TO PERFORM PROPERLY !?! Please let me know if I'm looking at the right thing. I don't want to buy this then have to sell it to "Twiggy" down the road and buy something that's not screaming in pain when I get on.

Well the weight capacity is well within limits for you, but that top 60mph is most likely a stretch. Avg speed for a 150 is usually 45-50 mph. Top out in the 50s usually but not always if it is a really good bike or upgraded a bit. I am not mechanical in the far stretch so others here would and will give you better opinions. I am skeptical about that top speed rating however. Why didn't they give the avg. range? Ask yourself that mom23. Have you researched out the BMS line? I am going to do it out of curiosity for your info, but read up yourself and see. BTW you are only a few hundred away from a nice Lance 150. I am glad you are thinking things through and not making a hasty decision. I know you are anxious. Tom

BMS says top speed is 65MPH (weight dependant)
TRUST ME.... I'm trying to read everything I can find here at scootdawg and elsewere.

Mom23: I have done a few quick searches and have not found much on the BMS but the reviews were bad. Things like: practically unassembled, hard to get parts, shipping damage, seller hard to work with. I am not trying to be a downer, just trying to help. Other Dawgs may know more than I. Who is the seller/shipper? Tom

Mom23: Is your seller mxmotorsports.us??? Woaa...if it is I searched and found some not too complimentary reviews on blogs and BBs. Of course the posters all had a bone to pick..there are maybe satisfied customers as well. I caution you again...you get what you pay for. Don't dump your good hard earned money down an empty hole. Think about paying a little higher for a better bike and dealership. Sorry if I am running wild with the posts. I have become interested and sympathtic to your situation. Tom

Mom, I'm with Tom on this one: tho I don't know anything about Mxmotorsports, I noticed yesterday that Newtoscoots has just ordered a scoot from there. From what he posted I got the drift he was having problems with them already. You could also check with New to be sure. But I'd beware of this place too.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK! So ..............you guyz are not gonna believe this. I was going from local shop to local shop and out of the corner of my eye noticed a scooter in the window of one of the car dealerships.
Of course me and my sister stop and go in. It's a nice 150cc scooter sitting there.
But........... It's covered in dust, it's brand new mind you................ but i keep looking ( cause whats a little dust right?)
~ ANYWAYZ~
I start asking ?'s. after the 2nd ? it is obvious that I know more about these scooters than the two guys trying to sell it to me. They asked me..... (get this) "Well how much do you want to pay for it?!? What's a good price.... make an offer.
" BRAKE LIGHTS.....screeching tires!!!!!!!!!!!!" HUH what!?! (joke right.......no!)
So I keep asking questions. These numbnuts couldn't even give me info beyond a puschase point. To make matters worse....
There were a couple more "bikes" and scooters sitting there in the crates . According to The Two Guys... the lot owner has his own atv shop. LIARS!!! Owner pulled into the lot and couldn't give me anwers.
needless to say, I think they probably had to call the fire dept. to put out the fire from all the burnt rubber left behind as we hightailed it outta there!
Some people!

SheScoots150:
It would be GREAT if you would post occasional info regarding the performance of your MP150ZOOM scooter. I bought the exact same model last spring only it was the Interceptor 150 from Lance Powersports. Any info on how your scoot is doing would be GREATLY appreciated.

Well, if I were you, I would seriously consider a Lance scooter from S/F or something similar, they are arguably the best Chinese scooters out there, and S/F will stick with you through thick and thin. There is a very in-depth review of S/F in the "dealers..." section of the forum, titled "ScootersFactory." Another thing that no one mentioned was the used scooter market. Do you have a friend that knows cycles/scoots somewhat well? I would do a little looking for some used Honda, Kymco, etc. The higher names. But in all honesty, by Lance isn't much behind my mom's Honda Elite (though the Honda is older).
Also, if you need something that will hold up, I would probably think twice about the BMS Bemine (or whatever it is). We got one (used) for a good price, but despite that fact that it only has about 500 miles on it, it looks like it's be to NY and back through a few sandstorms, hailstorms, etc. Nothing too bad, but it doesn't look to be made the greatest. I have seen them new as well, and they aren't much better in the "showroom," same thing with Tank and probably SunL (though they have been said to be getting better).
Also, I wouldn't wory too much about the scooter handling your weight. I am 200 dry, about 215 with riding gear, pushing 250 with all the crap I carry with me (school stuff and tools/spare parts, as well as whatever else I happen to toss in my trunk), and my scooter would do 56 stock and cruise at 50 all day. (I have since modded it significantly) Most 150's will break 50 on the flats, and cruise around 45ish, you should have about the same performance, but most likely a decrease in acceleration.
Good luck on your hunt and WELCOME!!! I need to go to bed now...
Aero...zzzzzzzzz

I'll chime in here. Just recently became new scooter owner with the ITA XY-150(which was mentioned earlier in this thread). It's still early but my experience so far has been very positive - performance, aesthetics, service, economy(?). I'm similar to Aero in weight and the scooter broke 60mph(indicated speed). Very comfortable at 45mph - 50mph. At stop I do lean a bit in order to flat foot on one foot, or tip toe a bit to balance on both. The scooter is heavy though, it isn't something to manhandle. I've ridden Honda Passport and this feels significantly heavier in handling(which is good thing ) GL on your scooter hunting.

Hello. I just recently joined the post and wanted to chime in on the weight issue for the Lance scooters. I have the Lance 150c Vintage. I ride it with my fiance daily to work and we both fit fine with our computer bags. Our combined weight is near 280 and we have no problems at all with getting up to 50 mph. Also, we were impressed with the Lance product and so we have become an online dealer for Lance at www.euromopeds.com. We are also building a network of repair services in major cities and ship to CA. If you have noticed, scooter factory raised their prices significantly, but we are maintaining low prices.

Just read all of this thread and am happy to see that you are looking at safety gear as well as your scooter. way to many newbies forget about that. Believe me when I saw that a helemt might be optional in whatever state you are all in, but it should be mandatory if you wanna live. I am lving proof after my accident.

mom23 - I don't know if you have ordered your scooter or not. But I thought of an option that you may have depending on your job. Do you pay into a 401k? If so, you can take a loan on it and pay the money back to yourself.
I was thinking of a better way to purchase a scoot besides putting it on a credit card. And it hit me that when my wife (self employed) was unable to work right after she had our son, we took out a loan on my 401k. We basically had to repay part of it back each paycheck. They took it directly out of my check. You do have to pay a little bit of interest, but not alot. The interest is also being paid back to you. So in reality you are just putting a little extra back into the 401k.
