Hey all, it's been a while since I last posted! I'm still riding the Roketa Bali Touring 250cc from AllNewSports.com - no problems to speak of yet and it's been about a year.
I've looked high and low on the web for a extra large windshield or possibly a canopy type cover for the scooter though and I can't find anyone that sells them. I'd prefer something that would allow me to ride in cold weather but stay mostly out of the wind. The shield now is about a medium I think and it's just too small for cold weather riding. I've seen a few scoots with complete top over covers and they seem dorky but perhaps practicle in the same breathe (though I can only imagine what my buddies at work would say about it if I bought one)..
Anyway, does anyone know of a place to get odd parts like that? Thanks -

While a larger windshield will help, it will not solve all your coldweather riding problems. I've been riding for over twenty years, sometimes in temps down in the lower 20s, and I can tell you that you need good coldweather gear, even if you ride a Goldwing. Here's a inexpensive start: www.galaxyarmynavy.com/item-7022.aspIt's not the best, but I think it's probably good for the price. I don't care for solid black, though. Cabela's makes a better suit, www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0010207921592a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=92-1592&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=92-1592&noImage=0, and it's available in red, for better visibility by drivers. Cabela's also sells some winter motor sports gloves, www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0040282960277a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=96-0277&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=96-0277&noImage=0If you don't already have one, think about a fullface helmet, either regular or modular. Either are warmer than a 3/4 or 1/2 helmet.

Aye termite - I agree. I have a good thick fleece coat and gloves and a full face helment. They ALL help. I think my biggest problem is I feel like I got to either "hunch" or "duck" behind my windshield to get out of the windy sound and overall "brunt" of it all. I was reading a post on this site a second ago about a guy who extended his windshield up by using acrylic (somehow). I would like to find a nice large windshield to install rather than making one though..

Scope: I am new to scooting this year but I agree that cold weather gear is essential to your cold weather ride. As for windshields there is a lot out there. Something might be adaptable to your scooter. You can look all over these boards for advice on good online suppliers. I myself have used Shade Tree Powersport and JC Whitney online. They may not be the best in the opinion of the fellow Dawgs but it's a place to start. Tom

Try this web site. Someone on this forum bought one for their Roketa MC 54 250 (Reflex clone) They said it fit perfectly. Not sure about the Bali though. Might give them a call to find out. www.ceebaileys.com/honda/hondareflexws.html

I find mittens much warmer than gloves.
And you are right, if you can get that wind up and over your head it will help emencely.

I just ordered a six inch taller shield from the site above (Cee Bailey's Aircraft Plastics). I got the 6" rise and euro (wide) cut. The noise and wind does drive me crazy at higher speeds and I'm sure this will help, because when I duck down 4" or so, it all goes away, however, ducking does present a safety and balance issue.
I'll let you know how it fits and works when it arrives.

scopetrader I also have a 250mc-54, I got a cee Bailey's windshield last summer for my scooter. I got a taller 5" and the euro cut. I ordered the Reflex shield and it fit on my scoot, the holes all lined up as they should, and it made a big difference on the amount of wind that hits you. I know several people from this Forum that has the Reflex clones, and they have ordered the windshield from cee Bailey and they said that they fit there scooter also.
The down side are, when you order the windshield, it takes a month to six weeks to get it. The holes are real small on the wildshield, you have to get them really line up to fit. ( I drilled out the holes for a better fit ). Since the windshield is thicker then the one that came with the scooter, when you put the plastic cover on the bottom of windshield, it is not a real good fit. The cover is raised up in the air because of the thickness of windshield and the edges are not really into the grooves on the sides as they should be.
But it does a real good job of keeping the air and bugs from your face and head. As for the cover not fitting right, probally the only one to notice it will be you.

Well my order says to allow 6 to 8 days... I wonder if that's a typo, and it should have said weeks. I guess we'll find out in 6 to 8 days! I'll post pics of the 2 sheilds here and let you know about the fit and function. I have to say, with this new scoot, the front plastic rattled all the time and I had to put in some weather stripping: I left gaps to let the water drain: It worked like a charm! Maybe if this new windshield is thicker I won't need the molding??

I have looked at many screens. The company I found that had a super tall screen that really works was GIVI. they make a quality product. All you have to do is contact them via their web page and tell the what scoot you got and how tall you want to go and they seem to have what you want.
to keep the wind off your face for good, no face shield required, your screen will have to be about even with or a little over your head height.

Well, I got the tracking number on the new shield today. I guess they meant it when they said 6 to 8 days!
I'll let you all know when it arrives and is installed...

If you get one tall enough you have to look thru it, make sure you get clear plastic. The tinted ones are dark at night, can't see thru them.

howdy Scopetrader!
I just did another trip to Harrisburg, PA from NJ (140 miles one way) and I just got back (Sunday, Nov. 4 6:30pm EST). I have been concerned about the cold, and since I can't afford the $189 for the extra large Givi windscreen for my Kymco, I had to be absolutely sure that I had good cold-weather gear.
Where to start? I tried some of the motorcycle clothes...great fit, great features, but too rich for my wallet. My brother owns a CBR 600, and he just used a set of work coveralls (7 oz.). He's claimed to ride into the low 30's, so I figured it would work if the temps only got down into the upper 30's/lower 40's.
Off to WalMart! Got a set of coveralls for $45...and a pair of Olympia Gloves from a motorcycle/scoot dealer for $35. The gloves are incredible. They were VERY warm for the colder night rides (I managed an indicated 75mph for several long stretches) and they have the "Toll Booth" pocket on the left wrist...just enough room for cash and Turnpike tickets.
I wore my regular clothes (t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, jeans) under the coveralls, wore a scarf around my neck ($4.44 from WalMart) and an leather motorcycle jacket I've had for 15 years...and the gloves. Local bank thermometers were showing 41 degrees by 5:45 pm, and I didn't feel a thing, in fact, my hands were soooo warm that I actually began to sweat. The gloves are drying off as we speak (also, full faced helmet with balaclava).
Yes, a large screen will do wonders in keeping the majority of wind from hitting you, but a good set of clothes always helps. Just my 2 cents...

Hey johnnyscoots, which series of Olympia gloves did you get? I'm currently in the market for some winter gloves, and it sounds like you have a winner. It's around 40-45 degrees right now in the Chattanooga,TN area and my leather jacket, leather gloves, and full face helmet are comfortable for now, but the rare occasion it got down to below 40 here, my hands were throbbing...Thanks!

No offense taken Twister!
I gave you a Karma for that one...besides, when one posts a pic of himself looking (less than) sane or in control of his mental facilities, and with a neck that looks like it was created using an Erector Set, he should expect some kind of humor...that's the whole idea of the pic! Laughter is great medicine!!!
Yes, the Kymco has gotten the best of me...

The wild look in your eyes depicts a somewhat lessening of reality and a deeper trend of needed psychotherapy. One day the KYMCO will make greater and greater demands on your time. It speaks to you at night doesn't it. There are voices you can't identify aren't there. BE AFRAID MY MAN, BE VERY AFRAID.

Like it was made for the Chinese. Oh, wait, it was made BY the Chinese.......according to the tag. Might explain the design

Yes Twister...her voice is getting more sultry as the days pass... She even convinced me to ride in the rain (TWICE!!!)...once in a Halloween Parade, and another...just to get used to riding in the rain. The face shield fogged up, and get this, Kym will actually break loose her rear tire if I get on 'er too soon in a slow turn... She always has surprises ready for me!
...and She's already jealous of my covetous glances at Ms. Beverly 500 (Piaggio BV500).

The Cabelas suit is the absolute shiznit! It was 27* on my back porch and I had to go 25 miles on my scooter this morning. But that suit didn't even let the cold in at the zipper seams where I expected a draft! It has renforced my dedication to the 2wheel life for as long as gas remains at $3+ a gallon. Which all indications are forever and the day after. Oh and J-Scoots, I'm going to be honest with you and hope I don't offend you, but that picture is the most disturbing site I have ever seen in my entire life!

This thread has been great! But not as fruit-full towards a solution as I'd hoped. I think that I speak for alot of other people like myself. I just want to get back and forth to work in dress clothes (not suite clothes) but dress pants and a nice shirt in the cold weather without freezing. I own an F-150 that is paid for but I still get guilty when I pull up to the pump and put $65 a week in it just to get me to work and back! While putting on layers of clothes or cover-alls might work if I were riding to my folks house, it's not practicle for me to pack like that to work every day. Eventually I'd just lose interest in riding at all unless it was warmer. I don't mind a coat, helmet and gloves.
I tell ya what I'd like to see is some sort of body conversion kit for these 250cc scooter that allows something like 70% protection from the elements while riding. Something much more than just a windshield. It seems to me that the 250cc scooter has more power than I need to get myself and my laptop to work, so why not pack on a 100lbs "body cover" as well? I know several other guys who would be interested in this little package too.
I'm sick of paying high prices for gas and if you follow the news at all, or breathe at all - you'll know they are only going to get higher!
