I have noticed a little sound when I park the Kymco. I can turn off the scooter, get off and am in the process of putting it up on its center stand when it makes a little puff sound....
So, two or three seconds after the scooter is switched off, it makes the sound.
Anyone have any idea it might be? The scooter is running great, plenty of power and as fun as can be (but why, why, why am I looking at sport touring enduro bikes?!?!?!) but that sound bothers me a little.
Thanks as always for your excellent advice.

Might be emission control system related.

Hmm, should I be using 93 octane?

I think that you probably do not have much to worry about there. Since our scooter engines use a centrifugal clutch and idle at fairly high rpm you are likely just running a small amount of unburned fuel through as the engine winds down after shutoff and then getting sudden expansion of the mixture in the hot exhaust. You may be running a touch rich also.
Reaching down and holding your hand behind the muffler immediately after shutdown and feeling for a puff would tell you if this is the case.
If it is that I would not worry about it. If you do not feel a puff out the exhaust then we may need to investigate further.

Hmm, should I be using 93 octane? 91 octane should be just fine.

my S-250 does the same thing. In fact, my gargage is about 300 feet from the house and when I first heard that, I thought my wife had slammed the back door on her way out but nope, it's the scoot.
Also, the people is high enough in compression it should have hi-octane gas. the dealer says not but jacine says yes and her word over rules the dealer.

Sometimes it maybe carbon build up on the piston, valves or spark plug that glow hot and .."pow". Or sometimes it is the CDI unit discharging the capacitor and "firing" when it should drain to ground.
But just educated guessing from the little bit of information.

No, it isn't a loud pop or pow sound, it is a puff. It's coming from the exhaust but isn't loud like a normal backfire, just a little 'puff' about three seconds after I turn off the scooter.

In that case I will stick with my first guess. Especially since you have a cat in the exhaust and they have to be hot to function.
