It seems that there may be an opportunity for Dealers to offer an "Enhanced" version of their scooters. They could replace all the problem parts that have been discussed over and over again on this forum. They can probably purchase the parts at wholesale prices. Many may be willing to spend an extra $200 for an "Enhanced" version of their scoots to eliminate many of the headaches. I don't know what all the parts would cost and I'm not sure that the Dealers would be allowed to replace or ship all the necessary fixes.
That being said, here are some of the things that may be included in an "Enhanced" package. Some of these things would have to be done by the owner. Maybe the Dealer just provides some parts that can't be installed before shipping.
Check -------- Tighten All Nuts Fan Fuse Wire Battery Fluid Level (distilled water) Diode
Replace ---------- Fuel Pump (Mr. Gadget?) Fuel Line Hoses Fuel Filter Radiator Coolant Battery Motor Oil Gear Oil Hose Clamps Turn Signal Bulbs
What do all you experts think should also be in the "Enhanced" package. Of course, some things would be scooter specific.
Thanks, Bob

I think that if you buy from a good dealer, such as a brick and mortar one (not that all of those are good, but at least you can talk at them face to face) or even a few of the internet places like the ones that are represented by at least one of our members (I'm thinking a guy named Jim), many of the items you mentioned will be done, and if you ask for them all to be done you might just get it for a great price.

Well Bob I like that you are out there thinking about ways to try to improve the bargain scooter market. A karma for your thoughts.
Kinda seems like it is really just telling someone to do a decent prep of the scooter and throwing in a few extra parts though. People who should be ordering an unprepped scooter in a box won't especially need this service. People who should not order an unprepped scooter probably won't be all that happy with an extra box of parts to figure out. About the only thing that you mention that might not be readily available locally to everyone is the fuel pump (maybe a Mikuni vacuum type?). Things like fuel line, coolant, oil, and hose clamps are pretty cheap and easy for anyone to get.
I think the big difference for most people would be if known issues could be taken care of in an upgrade "pre-prep" before shipping. Individuals optional choices could be installed then also.
A couple of the reputable online sellers offer prep of their scooters before shipping. I cannot remember any posts I've read by people who have bought the service that showed regret for doing so. Sure are a lot of threads where people have trouble getting their scoots up and running by themselves though. So how many scooters do those dealers get to sell with that added service? I don't know. I just think more people should probably take advantage of those services when available.

There are too many purchasers looking for fancy paint and exotic mufflers, and ignoring the vital innards. All CDIs aren't equal, all coils aren't equal, quality is all over the map. Until there is some standard way to measure quality all you can go by is track records.

THIS WOULD ENHANCE SCOOTER PERFORMANCE DRASTICALLY.

I think Twister hit the nail on the head! Get the customers true weight, and tune the variater and clutch to best suit. On say a 150, I'd want 12g rollers, and a 1500 "stall" on the clutch. Have a K Twister!

I learned from this forum prior to my purchase. The particular scooter I purchased was never mentioned on this site at all. However, I had learned 1) Buy from an established brick an mortar dealer, not some jackass with a slick web site and lofty claims. 2) have the scooter prepped and delivered fully assembled, not the 90% BS everyone of the shysters advertise. 3) upgrades often create more problems than they solve, so it is best done by the dealer! 4) choose the dealer you feel the most trust in based on how honest they answer legitimate questions. 5) do not rush a decision, 'the deal of a lifetime' happens every day. I bought from scootertronics.com, the scooter had EVERY questionable part replaced, not just looked at. I received a list of all the items with the scoot. The prep and shipping totaled $200. Best money I ever spent. My cheapo little scoot has been flawless, only 1000 Miles on it, but not a hint of troubles. So I guess I am just confirming what swampsniper, medman, and hillbilly have said, the good dealers do the job right IF the buyer LETS them! (kinda sad we have to call something done right 'enhanced!!)

Before you enhance, I would be more interested in reliability; i.e. I don't need to wonder who I can get a ride home from before I leave the house, I would rather ride than troubleshoot.
My vote is pay for the junk to be replaced before you get it. Parts quality is immensely variable in the assembly process, more stable it seems in the replacement market.
