Hello Everyone,
New to the forum AND to scooters. I read the review on the Qlink Achilles and Pegasus with great interest as like most people I am interested in keeping the spending down on my first scooter.
However I need a little more kink than a 150, so was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the Qlink commuter 250?
The price is at the top of my range but I'm hoping as Commuter's two little brothers seemed to rate well here someone might have an opinion.
And NO I will definately not be ordering 0n-line, lol. Found a local dealer here in NYC .
Thanks Deque

It's a Honda Helix based scooter, with many engine parts and more virtually interchangeable with Helix parts. Sitting on a QLink Commuter at the Indy Dealer expo in Feb was something I never got out of my mind(very comfortable) and part of the reason I now have a Helix.

Thanks for the welcome Aramel!
Dennis your just the guy I can use advise from. I knew it was a Helix "knock off" by the looks and am glad to hear it was comfortable. The Helix really would be my choice where it not for the heavy price tag.
My other choice was to buy a used Helix. Questions to you regarding Helix. 1. Is there someplace where I can see the "blue book" value of a Helix. I haven't had luck on-line yet. 2. I've had bad luck in the past (as I'm sure we all have at one time or another) with a used car so have opted for new ever since. However, if I where to consider a used Helix what should I be looking for (keeping in mind that I'm no Machanic).
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Welcome Shortall,
I am pretty new here and to scooters. I'm following a number of forums, but this is one of the better ones and so I keep coming back for more.
As to your question about bluebook value. At the kbb.com site, if you scroll down and look to the left you will see motorcycles. A quick check of an 87 Helix listed the retail value as 1,300. Like anything though it's what the market will bare.
I too am interested in the Commuter. If you have a good dealer near that would be very helpful indeed. Since I have been chasing this pony, I have found that their are a number of Helix clones. Qlink Commuter, CFMoto Fashion, Baron Cfmoto, Bandit lx-250-z and I thought that there was a wildfire, but I can't find it. As far as I can tell everyone of them is made by cfmoto. I might be wrong but I don't think so.
I'm told that the Helix clones and the genuine Helix are so similar that many parts are interchangeable. I'm pretty sure the engine is the biggest difference.
Now that said, I think that my mind is made up to buy a used Helix. I'm not in a big hurry, we're trying to buy a house (oh an sell the one I'm currently in, were taking offers :-) So I am watching the classifieds and waiting for the right deal.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide to get.
Bear

Thanks for the tip Bear, really helpful.
I did locate a Qlink dealer near me but that doesn't mean to much yet as I don't know to much about them. I'll be checking up on their rep this week.
I'm leaning towards a used Helix as well but there don't seem to be many for sale in my area. Guess that's a good sign as people don't want to give them up.
BTW, If I had realised when I signed up on this site that my surname would show up as my on-line handle I would have choosen something more interesting like road warrior or somethng, lol.
Thanks for the help gents.
Oh, and good luck with the sale of your house Bear, If you get enough $$ maybe you can splurge and buy one of the last remaining 07 Helixs and we can all envy you.

Thanks for the welcome Aramel! My other choice was to buy a used Helix. Questions to you regarding Helix. 1. Is there someplace where I can see the "blue book" value of a Helix. I haven't had luck on-line yet. Bear pretty well covered this one.... the KBB number was what I based my top $ on, and apparently the seller was looking at the same numbers. If you find one with 12-16 thousand mi. like I did, it's quite likely that it will need a belt and rollers, unless you can get positive maintanence info indicating it has been done. If you have access to an impact wrench, it's easy to do that yourself. There is an online Helix manual that can be used for both Helix and clones. The back tire of Helix's needs replacing every 5 to 6 thousand miles, so check that and take it into account when you make an offer if it needs one. That's about it.... if you have an MC endorsement make sure you can take it for a test ride. Expect it to feel a little bit strange compared to other bikes you may have ridden because of the very long wheelbase(.3" longer than an ElectraGlide) combined with the small 10 and 12" wheels. Mine had really wrong air pressures in the tires, which compounded the strange feeling.... once I got the air pressures and rear shocks adjusted it was much easier to adjust to. It should accelerate smoothly up to whatever speed you feel comfortable wit, probably somewhere in the 55 to 60 mph range, til you get more used to it. Stretch out and get comfortable.... nice cushy wide seat, NO monkeybutt!!

Hello Everyone, The price is at the top of my range but I'm hoping as Commuter's two little brothers seemed to rate well here someone might have an opinion. I don't know if this is true. Maybe someone else has more info. My local Qlink dealers says that Qlink told him that the Helix is built in the same plant, rolls down the same line as the Commuter. Someone with a new Helix should look at the DOT tag on the frame and tell us all what it says. Those tags tell the country in which the unit was built.

I was looking at a new (06 still in stock) Helix, and my Honda dealer said it was made in Marysville Oh. I do think that I'm going to check on this, since in my world of Union construction, it would be a small bonus to have a scooter made in the US of A :-)
I'll report back what I find.

It should say made in Japan. As to reports of Hondas made other places it is true but they don't come here. When my brother was in Thailand he bought a small cycle made by Honda in Thailand. It was unlike any Honda sold here. It was like an updated Cub with a 100cc engine.
