I am interested in the Daelim S2-s50 scooter, a local dealer sells them.
Any thoughts and/or opinions on this scooter?
This would be my first scooter so any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Daelim makes a good product. They've had presence in England for years. Some on this site have Daelim scoots. I'm sure they will chime in.

I have owned one for about 4 months after owning a Honda Elite 250 the previous 10. The S-2 250 has a Kymco engine and drive train. It is about $1500 cheaper than a reflex but IMO is a little less refined. It comes with a 2 year warrenty parts and labor. I would say it looks more comfortable then it really is so make sure you test drive it before purchasing. I have not owned mine that long but from reading others reviews it should be on par with other 2nd tier scooters in the reliability department. Over time they may be as reliable as Japanese scooters but no one I can find here in the US has racked up enough miles to make that statement. They have only been selling scooters here in the US for 3 years so parts and service over the long haul will be based on their success in the US market. If you have any specific questions I would be happy to try to answer them. I paid $3500 for my 2006 demo that had 300km on it. That is an out the door price.

I've had one for over a year now. It's the only scooter I've actually owned, so I can't really offer much in the way of comparison. Having said that, I'd buy it again; my web site (link below) has some more details on what I think of it. So far I've got about 10,500 km on mine, with no repairs needed as of yet. The worst thing I have experienced as far as reliability goes is that it has developed a rattle sometime during the spring of this year that occasionally occurs somewhere up front (I hope to eventually go digging to fix it).
I agree with Tastroman that you should ride it, or any scooter, if you can before making a purchase...at least spend some time sitting on it. I'm on the flip side of him as far as the S2's comfort goes, though he has more experience on other scooters than I do so he is able to compare it with others better than I am. One of the main reasons I considered/bought my S2 was due to the extra legroom and footroom it has over Kymco and many of the other 250cc scoots; personally, I've found it to be comfortable.
If you should decide to buy one, plan on spending another $170 or so on the tall windscreen. I'd prefer if it were about 4" taller than it is, but it's worlds better than the standard issue S2 screen.

I also should add that I am getting 64mpg on my commute where my average speed is about 50mph. My GPS checked top speed is 75mph. And I would second Gussett advice about the tall windscreen.
