Xciting 500 suggested retail $5999.
Burgman 400 suggested retail $5949.
With the price so close on these scooters, which one would you choose and why?
Any in site on available parts, reliability, power, gas mileage, and touring comfort?
Thanks

The Burgman hands down. It is fuel injected and has a trip computer. Rider magazine tested the Kymco and had a lot of problems with it. They finally reqested a second one so they could do there test. I also heard of others who have had stalling problems with Kymco.
I am a little biased since I moderate the Burgman 400 forum.

The burgman has a lower seat and the FI makes a big difference in starting. There are also re mappings becoming available to provide power performance.

I compared these three scooters and bought the Majesty. Parts are not an issue at all and the quality is top notch. This one will not disappoint you at all. Check around for carry over model years and you can negotiate the price down nicely if the dealer has a few on hand. South Seattle Yamaha will ship you OEM parts and accessories at a very nice discount. The windshield is a bit short for some riders, but that is my only complaint on it. Stan PS: currently at 59 mpg (fuel injected also) Xciting 500 suggested retail $5999. Burgman 400 suggested retail $5949. I went with the Majesty for the price($5400), parts, dealer is 30 miles from home, storage, fuel economy(I'm getting about 65mi. to the gal.) and capacity 3.7 gal., windshield alread on it, weight of the scoot, color was a supprise from the dealer, financing available, insurance(gieco). I got a new 2006 in May of this year and the dealer dropped the price a little to get it off the floor. 2 phone calls and 15 min. in the salesman office and I was out the door with it. Yamaha has done me good so far.

When I went to look at the Reflex I bought the lady had a Burgman 400 there. It had been adjusted downward a bit. I sat on it and it was as low and comfortable as the Reflex. Still, I decided the Burgman would be too much for a first bike, engine size wise. The easier maintenance schedule is the clincher this year.

I've never ridden the other two, but I did just purchase a left over 06 burgman Type S. $5005+++. I love it. It is extremely capable in any type of riding situation. Easy to ride at low speed too. I was a little nervous at first of the size, but after almost 500 miles, it's just not an issue. U turns are no problem, but don't try to push it up an incline.
Burgmans also have an excellant reliability record and that was most important to me. I suspect the Yamahas are just as good. But there are alot more Suzuki and Yami Dealers than Kymco. Not to slight them though. They make a good looking bike IMO. I also get along well with the Local Suzuki dealer, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking at Burgamns.
My advise is to ride all three if you can, and see which one is most comfortable for you. If that's not possible, go with whichever dealer you like best. Good luck in your quest. Keep us informed, and check out BurgmanUSA.com. BTW, I think MSRP on the 07 Burgman is $5899.

I found a dealer that discounted the price and threw in a trunk and mount plus waved the dealer set-up fee and shipping. That was just the push I needed to buy the Majesty. Always need to tell the wife it was a bargain! I have owned three Suzuki motorcycles, 5 Honda's and this is my 5th Yamaha. I had a couple of issues with Suzuki's but overall they where good machines and really no problems with Honda's but I had two Yamaha ATV for almost 20 years that myself, my wife, my kids and now my grandkids have ridden with no major repairs accept one pair of rear breaks shoes, spark plugs, batteries and oil changes. So I am little partial to Yamaha's. I have about 890 miles on the Majesty now and have ridden with friends with much larger motorcycles and all have been impressed with the little 400s performance, looks and especially the storage. So as you might guess my vote would be for the Majesty.

The Yamaha is by far the best looking, IMHO.
BTW, Monty, if you painted the trunk to match the bike, it would look even better.....

Great Looking ride Monty57,
You made a good choice and can probably look forward to many year of enjoyment from that scoot. Comfy looking saddle too! I started years ago on Yamaha dirt bikes, and agree they make a fine machine. Happy trails, and hwy's.

The long weekend gave me some great riding time and a chance to further explore the Majesty experience. It was great. I took several rides two up with my wife and that was good too. We even road Monday with and friend and his wife who has a Harley. We kept up fine and once again he was impressed with the performance and storage.
My wife is still a little uncomfortable on long rides. I am going to start exploring some seat cushion option. Jacine had mentioned "Gel" pads. Can someone fill me in on these and possibly some information on aftermarket seats. Other than that the riding has been great.
We have over 1000 miles on it now and it is really starting to run. No problem with interstate traffic and it handles well at high speeds. At this point I am convinced this is a good scoot for the money and a great choice for someone wanting the speed and handling needed for interstate travel. I am not sure I would want to go cross country on it yet but a few hours is very comfortable.

Monty; Was in our local Yamaha/Suzuli dealer Sat. and they had one silver Majesty on the floor. The big thing by far around here is the motorcycle but this dealer always sells some scoots each year. It was mostly the 50 cc Yamahas but for the past two years, he has seen the move to the Majesty and Burgman scoots. The Majesty sure was impressive! May be one more "upgrade" left in my scoot future - before the "Hoveround! Not for the near future, though, since I do really like the Linhai SS300.

toroise,
Thanks for link for the cushion. Looks interesting, especially since I looked on the Corbin web site and their seat will not work with the factory backrest I just purchased.
rollie,
What's not to like? You have a great scooter and and even better color. I think riding these things will keep us away for the hover-round longer!
